Which Australian tours can you do with children?

Plenty, and most of the day trips have a child price. The Great Ocean Road takes children from $100, Cradle Mountain from $115 and Kangaroo Island from $133. The thing to watch is the age limits — a handful of trips are 18 to 35 only, and they are the sailing and camping ones.

Checked on 6 October 2026.

Two questions come up every time: will they take my kids, and what does it cost. Here are the trips with a published child price, with how much walking each one involves, and then the trips that have an age limit so you do not fall for one by accident.

The age limits to watch

  • Some trips are 18 to 35 only — several of the Whitsunday sailing boats and a few of the outback camping trips. They will not take a family, however old your teenagers are.
  • 15+ with a supervising adult is common on the camping trips, so a 16-year-old is usually fine with you along.
  • All ages, under 15s with an adult is the most common setting on the day trips.
  • One trip is designed for travellers aged 50 and over, if that is what you are after instead.
  • If a trip you like is not listed here, ask — the age rule is the operator's and we will check it against the trip rather than guess.

What actually works with children

  • Day trips with a pick-up. Everything above collects you from your accommodation, so there is no getting a family to a meeting point with bags.
  • Wildlife beats scenery. Phillip Island's penguins, Seal Bay's sea lions and the Tasmanian devil sanctuary at Port Arthur are the three that land best.
  • Short walks, rated 2 of 5. Most of the list above is boardwalks and beaches rather than hiking.
  • Swimming helps. Litchfield's waterfalls and K'gari's lakes turn a long drive into a good day.
