Is Kangaroo Island worth visiting in winter?
YesAdelaide's winter days, with less rain, and the sea lions on the beach.
Yes. Winter on Kangaroo Island is Adelaide's weather with less rain. Kingscote averages 15 to 16°C by day from June to August, the same as Adelaide, and gets 57 to 67mm of rain a month against Adelaide's 68 to 78mm. The reason to go does not change with the season: a Parks officer walks you along the beach at Seal Bay among around 800 endangered Australian sea lions, and the island's food and drink, from a two course lunch at Vivonne Bay to the Emu Ridge distillery, is made for a cool day. A day from Adelaide with the ferry, Seal Bay and lunch included is from $399, or from $195 for the food and wine day.

People expect an island in the Southern Ocean to be colder than the mainland in winter. By day it is not. Kingscote's June, July and August average exactly what Adelaide's do, within half a degree, and the island is the drier of the two every winter month. What you are there for, the wildlife and the food, is there all the same.
