When is the best time to visit Adelaide and Kangaroo Island?
March to May, or September to November. Adelaide is dry in summer and wet in winter, so the shoulders give you mild days around 19 to 27°C with little rain. Kangaroo Island works year round — the sea lions at Seal Bay do not migrate.

Adelaide has a Mediterranean climate — hot dry summers and cool wet winters. February averages 16mm of rain and June 78mm, so unlike Sydney or Melbourne there genuinely is a dry half of the year, and it is the hot one.

Kangaroo Island through the year
- Seal Bay works every month.The Australian sea lion colony is resident, not migratory, so the ranger-guided beach walk runs year round.
- Spring, September to Novemberis the pick — wildflowers, mild weather and the island at its greenest.
- Summer is warmest for the beachesand busiest on the ferry.
- Winter is quiet and dramaticbig southern swells on the south coast, and the cheapest time to go.
- The ferry runs year roundand is included on the day trips either way.
The Barossa
- Vintage runs roughly February to Aprilwhich is the most interesting time to visit a working winery.
- Autumn colourthrough April and May in the vineyards.
- Winter is quiet and the cellar doors are openfewer people, more time with whoever is pouring.

- October or Novemberif you can choose freely — warm, dry, wildflowers on the island.
- March or Aprilfor vintage in the Barossa and comfortable walking weather.
- December to Februaryfor the beaches, accepting heat and crowds.
- June to Augustfor the lowest prices and an empty island, if you do not mind rain.
