Kimberley is one of the nine regions that make up the West side of Australia. Located in the northern part of Western Australia, the Kimberley's are bordered on the west by the Indian Ocean, on the north by the Timor Sea, on the south by the Great Sandy and Tanami Deserts, and on the east by the Northern Territory.

Like alot of the towns that settled along the west coast of Australia, the Kimberley region started off as a pearling location and later developed into a modern region who's main role is to showcase its natural wonders.      The rugged and varied sandstone landscape is home to a distinctive mixture of wildlife which has been thoroughly mapped and described by the Western Australian Department of Conservation and Land Management.

The Kimberley region gained its name from the diamond fields in South Africa. This was due to the two areas sharing a similar landscape. The discovery of diamond fields in the Kimberley region has subsequently added to the likeness.
