What is Uluru like month by month, and when is the best time to go?
Every month works at Uluru — they just give you different things. April, May, September and October are the easy choice: warm days, mild nights, almost no rain. June to August has the best walking weather and the clearest night skies of the year. November to March is warm, green after rain, and the quietest time to have the place to yourself.

Uluru is a desert, so the seasons are big and they change the shape of your day rather than whether you go. Sunrise is the best light on the rock in any month. Here are the real numbers, and what each month is genuinely good for.
Every month at Uluru
| Month | Average top | Average overnight | Rain | What it gives you |

Going in the warm months, November to March
How to get the best out of them
- The day works around the light. The 10km Uluru base walk is done at sunrise, which is when the rock is at its best anyway — your guide has the timing sorted.
- It is the quiet season. Fewer people at the sunrise viewing areas, more room at camp, and the best prices of the year.
- Rain is what makes it green. Waterholes fill, the desert flowers, and Kings Canyon runs with water.
- Come prepared and it is easy. Our operators say it can pass 40°C in the shade, so bring a proper hat, sun protection and more water than you think — the trips carry plenty.
Going in the cool months, June to August
What makes them special
- The walking is as good as it gets — around 20°C and dry, so the long walks feel effortless.
- The night sky is extraordinary. Cold, dry desert air gives the clearest stars of the year, and you are sleeping under them.
- August is the driest month of the whole year at under 5 mm.
- Pack for the evenings. Operators recommend thick socks, layers and a warm jacket — nights can dip below zero, and with the right gear a swag is beautifully snug.
So when would we book?
- September if you can pick freely — warm days, mild nights, almost no rain.
- May if you prefer cool to hot, with a jacket for the evening.
- April or October are just as good at either end of the warm season.
- June to August for the finest walking weather and the best night skies.
- November to March for the quietest trails, the greenest desert and the best prices — just start early and bring a hat.
