Take in the glorious views from the iconic Neck Lookout, climbing the 240 wooden steps over the narrow isthmus between north and south Bruny. Step back in time with a walk through the ancient Mavista Rainforest, breathing in the cleanest air under the towering canopy, and keep an eye out for the rare white wallabies that thrive on the private reserve. Then taste your way across the island, visiting some of our favourite artisan producers.

“Not to be missed”
The day was absolutely perfect from start to finish. Every stop was fantastic, each vendor was welcoming and genuinely passionate about what they do, and the company was a pleasure to deal with while helping us sort out the finer details before the tour.
The standout, by far, was our guide, Zoe. Her knowledge of Bruny Island, its history, the local community, and the vendors was second to none. She was friendly, approachable, and somehow managed to spend time with everyone in our group of 16, making each person feel included and tailoring the experience to them. Throughout the day she got to know us, shared stories you simply wouldn’t get anywhere else, and took us to some absolutely breathtaking locations.
What impressed me most was how deeply she cared, not just about the island, but about making sure every guest had an unforgettable day. Her enthusiasm and passion were infectious, and it’s genuinely the best tour I’ve ever been on. It was the highlight of our week in Tasmania, and I couldn’t recommend it more highly

We did a fantastic day tour to Bruny Island with Pennicott Wilderness Journeys, and it exceeded all expectations.
Our driver and guide, Rayan, was excellent—Tasmanian born and bred, relatively new to the role but incredibly knowledgeable about the island’s history and local highlights. He was polite, engaging, and had a great sense of humour, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable.
The tour itself was wonderfully curated, with stops for cheese, beer, honey, and chocolate tastings—each one a treat. Lunch at Pennicott’s beachside restaurant overlooking Adventure Bay was a standout: freshly shucked oysters and the fish of the day were exceptionally fresh, paired with stunning coastal views.
A must-visit on Bruny Island is the Bruny Island Chocolate Company—definitely worth indulging! However, the true highlight of the day was a rare and special experience: a private garden tour of Hiba. The name “Hiba,” meaning “a beautiful gift,” perfectly captures the serene and magical atmosphere of this remarkable place.
Hiba is a 25-hectare private oceanfront estate and garden created by its owners, Michael Carnes and Bob Lavis. What began around 30 years ago as an empty paddock with little more than blackberry rows has been transformed—over decades—into an extraordinary landscape. It’s still evolving, but already a stunning reflection of their vision and dedication.
This garden is not open to the general public, so we felt incredibly fortunate to visit as part of the Pennicott tour. We even had the chance to meet one of the owners, Michael, who was working in the garden and kindly shared insights into the project.
All in all, a memorable and highly recommended experience—perfectly blending food, scenery, and a unique glimpse into one of Bruny Island’s hidden gems.

“A Must-Do Tour!”
This trip was a fantastic experience and the highlight of our trip to Tasmania. We had Paul as our tour guide and he was such a knowledgeable and passionate guide. He was happy to answer questions about anything to do with Tasmania and had such an in-depth understanding of the local produce, flora and fauna of Tasmania.
The tour included:
- Bruny Island Cheese Company: a private audience with the cheesemaker and a tasting of 4 different cheeses as well as their whey-stout
- Bruny Island Neck: 240 steps to a gorgeous look-out over Bruny Island. We were fortunate enough to spot some whales in the ocean thanks to Paul's keen eye.
- Mavista Rainforest walk: a short walk through the rainforest where Paul taught us about Captain Cook's endeavours and the different types of wood. Once again, Paul was able to identify some rare wildlife and stopped for us to take photos of the White Albino Wallabies on the drive up!
- Adventure Bay: A gorgeous drive along the bay, where you get to see a golden-sand beach, a white-sand beach and a black-sand beach! We were so lucky to stop and see seals spashing in the water, one again thanks to Paul's quick spotting.
- Lunch at Penicotts (and 2 free drinks!): Our entree was the creamy Bruny Island oysters that Paul picked up for us from the Get Shucked shop. For mains, my friend was able to enjoy the locally sourced fish and chips and I had a wonderful warm spiced pumpkin soup. We washed them down with some Tasmanian wines. Paul also treated us to a delightful apple mead liquor that we were able to heat up and drink at home.
- Bligh Museum: A quick stop at the private museum dedicated to the exploration of the South Pacific.
- Bruny Island Chocolate Company: An exclusive tour of Michael and Bob's fantastic gardens as well as a stop at their delicious chocolate shop.
- Bruny Island Honey: a delicious tasting of over 7 types of honey as well as some mustards and skin care. We were happy to be gifted a free jar of honey of our choosing as well as some delicious leatherwood honey ice cream.
Overall, we would highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to explore Bruny Island. We are in our early 20s and had a blast! We definitely think the experience was value for money and there are no expenses at all once you are on the tour unless you wanted to do some extra shopping!

Simon was a wonderful and friendly guide and all the stops were delightful, especially the delicious cheese at the Bruny Island Cheese Co and the oysters from Freshly Shucked. Don’t miss the charming Bligh Museum either! Always a pleasure to travel with Pennicott.

Dan took us on a great day out from start to finish. Hobart to Kettering for the ferry across to Bruny Island. Great lookout at the neck of the Island … 235 steps up & back down.!! Cheese tasting with a glass of whey port first up then an easy trek into the bush. So peaceful. We tasted 3 of the biggest oysters I’ve seen at our lunch venue. Delicious. Yummy fish n chips & a couple of glasses of wine .. very satisfying!! More sightseeing and then onto a chocolatier where we tasted very rich fudge & other sweet morsels. This place was set in lush gardens full of interesting sculptures and beautiful plants & shrubbery. Next was a little museum which has been there for 70 years full of historic artefacts pertaining to this area. Last stop honey shop and finished off with delicious honey ice creams and a jar of honey of our choosing to take home. We rolled on back to Hobart. Do yourself a favour!!!

Some more sightseeing, then Hibi Gardens - how stunning this was. And to have a chocolatier on site, yum! Then off to tastings at The Honey Pot for tastings of honey, mustard, relish & ice-cream with which included a take home little pot of honey. Today we went on a tour of Bruny Island, picked up at our hotel at 7:40am and taken across on the Ferry by Zen the bus driver. He was very informative and lots of fun. We had a cheese tasting and a whey stout for breakfast, walk in the rain forest. Lunch was fresh oysters for entree and we chose great fish and chips with salad for main course with a couple of drinks included. Some more sightseeing, then a visit to a chocolate shop for more tastings and to top if off tastings at a honey place which included a free jar of honey and honey and mustard and two honey flavoured ice-creams. Dropped back at our hotel at 5:45pm. We are both exhausted and dare I say everyone else on the bus tour too. If you visit Hobart treat yourself to the Bruny Island Traveler gourmet tasting and sightseeing from Hobart.

“Great experience!”
The company will do pickups from certain places/hotels but in our case we just grabbed an Uber to their office on the pier. A 7.45 start (returned around 5.45pm) with a 40min bus drive through town and then around the coast to catch the ferry to Bruny Island. Along the way our knowledgeable guide and driver, Dan, tells interesting facts and stories and it really is nice to be able to just sit back and relax. The ferry is a quick 10min ride (on or off the bus) before we carry on across the island stopping at places along the way. First stop was the beer and cheese tasting. Not a beer drinker at all but a lovely glass of beer which went well with the few selections of cheese we were given to taste and hear about.
The weather was on and off rainy but it didn’t matter as Dan changed the tour around to make the most of it. A couple of stops for some lovely views, and even a short forest walk. Lunch is at a large restaurant where your choices are fish and chips, fish burger/roll and chips, soup and ham / salad roll or chicken salad. Our table happened to have an order of each and all were generous servings and really lovely. Oh and not to mention the entree of oysters - three each which I’m told were lovely (oysters are not my thing!)
Included is also any two drinks off the menu so a glass of wine and then a coffee was a great addition.
The honey stop allowed you to taste test several varieties and also get a free small jar to keep (note to kiwis or those from Sth Aus who cannot take honey back, they offered an alternative option). Plenty of variety, bathroom stops ;) and banter. Keep an eye out too - we even managed to spot a white wallaby! Take comfortable shoes, a warm jacket / rain jacket or similar as the wind got quite strong at some places and the rain comes and goes. I’d highly recommend this trip to those looking for a relaxed and convenient way to see the best Bruny Island has to offer. And the tour company, and of course our guide Dan, were simply awesome.

Today we went on a tour of Bruny Island, picked up at our hotel at 7:40am and taken across on the Ferry by Zen the bus driver. He was very informative and lots of fun. We had a cheese tasting and a whey stout for breakfast, walk in the rain forest. Lunch was fresh oysters for entree and we chose great fish and chips with salad for main course with a couple of drinks included. Some more sightseeing, then a visit to a chocolate shop for more tastings and to top if off tastings at a honey place which included a free jar of honey and honey and mustard and two honey flavoured ice-creams. Dropped back at our hotel at 5:45pm. We are both exhausted and dare I say everyone else on the bus tour too. If you visit Hobart treat yourself to the Bruny Island Traveler gourmet tasting and sightseeing from Hobart.
“A wonderful way to see the best of Bruny Island”
The company will do pickups from certain places/hotels but in our case we just grabbed an Uber to their office on the pier. A 7.45 start (returned around 5.45pm) with a 40min bus drive through town and then around the coast to catch the ferry to Bruny Island. Along the way our knowledgeable guide and driver, Dan, tells interesting facts and stories and it really is nice to be able to just sit back and relax. The ferry is a quick 10min ride (on or off the bus) before we carry on across the island stopping at places along the way. First stop was the beer and cheese tasting. Not a beer drinker at all but a lovely glass of beer which went well with the few selections of cheese we were given to taste and hear about.
The weather was on and off rainy but it didn’t matter as Dan changed the tour around to make the most of it. A couple of stops for some lovely views, and even a short forest walk. Lunch is at a large restaurant where your choices are fish and chips, fish burger/roll and chips, soup and ham / salad roll or chicken salad. Our table happened to have an order of each and all were generous servings and really lovely. Oh and not to mention the entree of oysters - three each which I’m told were lovely (oysters are not my thing!)
Included is also any two drinks off the menu so a glass of wine and then a coffee was a great addition.
The honey stop allowed you to taste test several varieties and also get a free small jar to keep (note to kiwis or those from Sth Aus who cannot take honey back, they offered an alternative option). Dan is an excellent commentator with jokes mixed in with facts, historical references and mythology and on the whole a very enjoyable commentary throughout and all of us on the bus enjoyed it. Clare I believe was in training and we were amazed with her skills in navigating through the peak traffic when we returned and she has a warmth and smile that brings in the sunshine on a dull day. Overall we made friends and great conversations through the atmosphere that the hosts created. highly recommended and thank you Dan and Clare.

Eight of us went on the Bruney Island Day Cruise and had the most memorable day with Zoe who was not only our tour guide but also our bus driver. What a remarkable young lady, she was charismatic, bubbly, knowledgeable and extremely pleasant, we could not have asked for a better person she made the whole experience a memorable one. Could not recommend this tour more highly especially if you are lucky enough to have Zoe as your guide.

From the moment Kerry picked us up the whole day was memorable and such a joy. The various stops and the people we met and the excellent food were well worth the price. We have truly experienced Bruny Island and feel uplifted as a result.

“A wild adventure but not for persons susceptible to motion sickn”
Our tour operator, Tauck, advertised this full day adventure as including a 3 hour “cruise”alongside some of Australia’s highest sea cliffs”, “drifting up close” to a Breathing Rock, and “entering sea caves”. They said it could be cold and that gloves and jackets were highly recommended. Neither Tauck nor any guides mentioned that this cruise mostly was a speed boat thrill ride for most of the three hours. Some people clearly loved the relentless roller coaster experience crashing through ocean waves. Others of us did not. So, if you are looking for thrills, including some awesome sights, this is your adventure. If you are looking for a cruise and keeping down your breakfast, I would recommend you explore other options.

A clear itinerary would have been really helpful to let us know if this was right for us, so I'll share here what we expected, and what was not in line with what we were hoping for.
We were expecting per the description to really get the chance to taste and try different types of each of the food, understand where it came from, the process of making it, and get that "farm to table" experience. Unfortunately this is not what happened; the experience read more like a series of stops to buy produce or pass time, aside from the initial cheese/beer tasting and lunch.

What a great day. Well worth the money. Picked up near our hotel in a small bus we were off to an early start. Our guide Jordan was fantastic. From the moment he picked us up he was friendly and so informative. He really knew his stuff and obviously had researched everything so he could answer all questions. The tour was everything promised. Beautiful food, especially the cheese, bread and beer tastings , scenic stops where again Jordan was able to provide so much information. A couple of pleasant walks ( wear decent walking shoes) and a stroll around the most beautiful garden at the chocolate farm. Lunch at their restaurant was very nice, again at a beautiful spot. Lovely little complementary goodies at several of our stops. Jordan was also willing to drop us off at a preferred location on our return. Can highly recommend.

This is a "must do" day-trip for all those who are in Hobart for a few days and are not setup up for long walks. The Pennicott hosts did not put a foot wrong. Shout out to Allan who shepherded our somewhat eclectic group in and out of squalls and rain showers very successfully.

This was a great day trip. The agenda was exactly as promised with a number of highlights. Firstly, looking at the food; the first visit for cheese and beer tasting is oddly early in the morning but works. The cheese and beer offered was really nice. lunch was nothing short of excellent. My family are oyster nuts and they all agreed the sample oysters were the best they had in Tassie. The lunch food was delicious and the two free drinks generous. In the afternoon we visited the chocolate factory that was more about the gardens and then the honey shop. Again the honey samples where very good. The tour itself was very relaxing and enjoyable. The highlight for me was the short walk through the rain forest - absolutely stunning (we are already planning a longer return trip). The other stops were interesting. Big shout out to Jordan our guide for the day. He is a lovely guy and obviously proud of his state. He did a great job. This tour is well worth the effort and at $235 for the day great value.

Family owned with about 100 staff (all tour guides are friendly, perhaps chatty, professional, go the extra mile and are great story/fact tellers with a little sarcasm :) ). Tours to some amazing locations ie bruny island food tour, bruny island cruise (would have gone but not enough time in my trip with family, apparently according to instagram atm there are heaps of dolphins). Can enquire till 10pm I think.
Bruny island, forgot the name of the tour guide, it was a young man, but they do such amazing work in such great locations. Little jelly of their jobs hehe. Went to different places to eat/drink with a hop on top off vibe, telling us history and interesting information along the way. Got to visit their cafe/shop for the included morning tea overlooking adventure bay (?) also, and bruny island neck. Great for a foodie/drinks person. Suitable all ages .
Went on the Tasman island tour also, happened to be the only person on the tour from Hobart that day that needed a 'shuttle'up to the ferry near eaglehawk Bay Area. Wasn't cancelled but tour went on ahead with a lovely gentleman named Phil. While bus to myself. Ended up even getting home an hour early while still seeing everything. Federation chocolate, the lavender place, and remarkable cave and the lookout (note minimal cell reception at remarkable cave).
The cruise itself was great. Minimal swell. Believed it was 0.5-1.5 that day. Check before day if departure on forecast, tour payable with cash on the day in case you change your mind as they hardly cancel (super boat skills I think). Slightly bumpy at times especially around the loop to the Tasman island itself from the coastline. I sat in the last row before the wheel on the side and noticed the row behind the wheel on the side tended to get a little more spray. Sidetracking, I once went on a 4wd on a beach once so was kind if worried about this trip as I ended up with a sore neck. This Tasman island cruise had no problems, suitable for even older people and directable chikdren. Ended up with no sore neck either. Fantastic! There was an older gentleman in his 80s, he loved it and was filming the whole thing the entire time so it's pretty good! . Personally didn't get wet also where I was sitting... Be prepared to dress super warmly, I was wearing thermals and light down jacket, gloves, beanie and had a scarf covering most of my face, as can get super cold and windy. They offer a spare heavy jacket also and you wear a water resistant thing anyway. I'm about 163cm so it went down to my ankles so be careful when you turn around. Jr's hard to remember as you get distracted by the scenery all the time and I couldn't stop saying wow . Saw heaps of seals and pups, an albatross or two, an eagle. Unfortunately no Orcas, humpbacks or dolphins this trip but binoculars are a must if you have them as most trips can see these animals. Great scenery. Awe inspiring sheer rock cliffs (being the largest in the southern hemisphere) especially around cape pillar/cape raoul area.
Suitable and safe enough for solo female travellers.
Tip: go to the toilet before the cruise. 3 hrs in the wind and cold...Have toilet on board, but may be hard if mobility issues as its small and has a step and should only go when they slow down the boat..
..Have been wanting to visit Tasman island for. Long time, since watching coast TV series with Neil Oliver and an old black white doco on people living at the lighthouse and having to bring supplies by a pulley system (?), I have wanted to go visit. So finally was able to tick that off from my list in that sense...
Overall, great company, would definitely recommend and if I'm ever back, would do the Tasman island tour again (because it was breathtaking!) and the bruny island cruise (as I did the foodie one this time). They also have an ironpot cruise and a seafood food based tour also. Multiple options for the tours also. Half day, full day and extra optional activities to choose from.

To travel out into the Southern Ocean on a rib did not fill us with confidence before we took the tour. Pennicott do adjust the sailing direction depending on sea conditions to ensure everyone has a safe, enjoyable cruise. However, on a relatively calm day we enjoyed a fabulous experience out in Tasmania's wilderness.Nesting Sea Eagles, wandering Albatrosses,curious dolphins all joined in as we looked up in awe at a most remarkable coastline. The sights of the Australian and New Zealand seals was spectacular and the narrative suited the travellers.Whatever the weather,travellers must appreciate you are out on the open Ocean,yet our captain and tour guide went to great lengths to ensure all passengers had an experience to remember. Motion tablets are offered to those who may struggle with the sea and water is provided along with biscuits.You are kitted out in warm,waterproof garments, and there is a toilet on board. The views of the cliffs were magnificent which we will remember for many years to come. The company has won awards for their tours and if you take this tour you will understand why.Truely memorable.

It is hard to get the balance right but we had that with a delightful group, guides Claire and Ryan and nature, culture, eco-education and food tasting. The food tastings were seamlessly incorporated so while you could shop additionally - there was no pressure. Very impressed and would choose this company regardless of where they went!
