When is the best time to visit Bruny Island?
Dec to MarchFebruary is the driest month. And the food is good in any month.
December to March, and February is the driest month of the year. Across the channel in Hobart, January and February average 22°C by day, and February gets just 39mm of rain. That is the time for long days on the beaches and the climb to the Neck lookout. Winter is 12°C in June and July and quiet, and most of what Bruny is famous for, the oysters, the cheese, the fudge and the whisky, is indoors, so it is a good day out in any month. A day from Hobart with the ferry included both ways is from $175.
Checked on 28 October 2026.
Bruny Island has two halves to a visit: the coast, the Neck, Cape Bruny lighthouse and the beaches, which is best in the long warm days of summer, and the food, which does not mind what the weather is doing. So summer is the best time, and every other season still makes a good day.
