Is the Whitsundays good for kids?

Yes, pick the boatA day sail with a child fare, or two nights on a boat that welcomes all ages.

Yes, and the easiest way in is a day sail. The full day on Providence leaves Coral Sea Marina at 7:30am with transfers from your Airlie Beach accommodation, snorkelling, a picnic lunch on board and the Hill Inlet lookout over Whitehaven Beach: $199 for adults and $150 for children, with an effort rating of 2 out of 5. For nights on the water, Mandrake (from $538, 14 guests) and Spank Me (from $645) are both all ages welcome. And the islands are warm all year: 22°C by day in July, 30°C in January.

Checked on 28 October 2026.

The Whitsundays are a sailing holiday, so the question is really which boat. Some are set up for families and say so; a couple are adults only. Here are the ones that will take the whole family, with what each day involves.

Nights on a boat, all ages welcome

Two of the three day sails say all ages welcome on their own sheets, and both let you try your hand at sailing or leave it entirely to the crew. All meals and snacks are cooked on board, and both spend a morning on Whitehaven Beach.

Warm whenever you go

Hamilton Island averages 30°C by day in January and 22°C in July, and nights stay around 18°C even in July. August to October is the driest stretch, with 26mm of rain in September, which makes it the easiest time to sail with children; the summer months are the warmest. There is a month-by-month on our best time to sail the Whitsundays page.
