How do I get to Margaret River from Perth?
A day trip from Perth, from $259, and it is the gentlest day we sell in Western Australia. Chocolate, nougat, wine and the coast, in an air-conditioned minibus with hotel pick-up. Six days takes in Esperance as well, which is where the white sand beaches are.

Margaret River is three hours south of Perth, in the opposite direction to everything else people go. It is wine country on a coastline of surf beaches and caves, and it is the softest day out in the state.

The day trip
- Rated 1 of 5 for effort — the easiest day trip in our whole range. It is tasting and looking rather than walking.
- Hotel pick-up in Perth, there and back, so no hire car and no driving when there is wine involved.
- The producers are the point. Chocolate, nougat and cellar doors, with the coast between them.
- Good for a mixed group where not everybody wants a 4WD and a sand dune.
The six-day south coast run
- Esperance is the reason to do the longer trip — Lucky Bay and the whitest sand in Australia, about eight hours further east.
- Six days from Perth and back, so no one-way flight to arrange.
- A completely different trip from going north. The south is green, forested and cool; the north is red and empty.
Or go north instead
If you have six days and have to choose, north to Ningaloo is the bigger trip — a reef you snorkel off the beach. Margaret River is the better short trip; Ningaloo is the better long one.
