Things to do in the Grampians

Walk, look, stayThe Pinnacle, the Balconies, MacKenzie Falls and the rock art, with a night at Halls Gap.

Walk up to the Pinnacle above Halls Gap, stand on the Balconies, climb down to MacKenzie Falls and see the rock art. The Grampians, Gariwerd, hold the largest concentration of Aboriginal rock art in southern Australia, with several shelters open to visitors. MacKenzie Falls is the biggest waterfall in the park, and the Balconies and Reed Lookout look out over the Victoria Valley on a short, flat walk. Kangaroos and emus come out around Halls Gap at dawn and dusk. Our trips pair it with the Great Ocean Road: two days with a night at Halls Gap from $475.

Checked on 28 October 2026.

The Grampians are a sandstone range inland from the Great Ocean Road, and completely unlike the coast: ranges, lookouts, waterfalls and rock art instead of limestone stacks and ocean. Halls Gap, deep in the national park, is where you stay.

The walks and the lookouts

  • The Pinnacleabove Halls Gap. The walk most people do.
  • The Balconies and Reed Lookoutthe view out over the Victoria Valley, on a short, flat walk.
  • MacKenzie Fallsthe biggest waterfall in the park, down a steep staircase. At its best in spring.

The rock art

Gariwerd holds the largest concentration of Aboriginal rock art in southern Australia, and several of the shelters are open to visitors.

The evening at Halls Gap

  • Kangaroos and emusaround Halls Gap at dawn and dusk, reliably.
