Leaving Hobart, our wilderness journey begins at Mount Field National Park, walking beneath some of the world's tallest trees to the stunning Russell Falls. Continuing west, stop at Lake St Clair, Australia's deepest freshwater lake, then journey through the rugged Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park, passing sweeping buttongrass plains, to Queenstown, a former mining hub and now a vibrant west-coast destination.

Day 2: Gordon River Cruise to Tullah
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Travel to the harbourside village of Strahan and embark on a scenic Gordon River Cruise through Macquarie Harbour and Hells Gates, the narrow entrance to the Southern Ocean. Step ashore at historic Sarah Island, a former penal settlement, then head upriver into the rainforest to wander the boardwalk beneath ancient Huon pines, some over a thousand years old, with lunch onboard featuring Tasmanian produce. In the afternoon, travel to Tullah, where on a clear day Mount Murchison reflects over Lake Rosebery. Unwind with a group dinner at the lakeside lodge.

At Ronny Creek, look for wombats along the boardwalk. At Dove Lake, enjoy the stunning 6 km circuit (2–3 hours) around the glacial-carved lake, framed by towering mountains — or wander down to Glacial Rock for valley views, or visit the iconic Boat Shed. This afternoon, enjoy the "Town of Murals" at Sheffield, before arriving in Launceston.

Take a leisurely walk in Cataract Gorge, a scenic reserve along the South Esk River minutes from Launceston, with fern-lined paths, a suspension bridge and panoramic lookouts. I just finished the 6 Day Tasmanian Discovery Tour with a couple friends. The tour was absolutley wonderful! Tassie is an outdoor wonderland, so diverse and beautiful! Our tour guide, Phil really made the tour an amazing experience! Thank you Phil for your professionalism, kindness, love of the outdoors and expert knowledge of Tassie!! I found the tour very adaptable to different fitness levels and age ranges. The itinerary covered a wide variety of the natural beauty of Tasmania, including the history and discovery of the native wildlife and more. Full days of adventure without being too much. The smaller group size was so nice to meet the most lovely people from many parts of the world. Many new friendships were made. Accomodation was adequate and clean with some really unique gems. I really felt it was a well planned itinerary and the natural beauty and diversity of Tassie is making me want to come back to explore more. Thank you Under Down Under for organizing such a wonderful itinerary!
The 6-day classic tour was fantastic — breathtaking sights, a well-paced itinerary, and great people to share it with. The hotels were clean, central and warm, and our guide made a point of highlighting local businesses to support and keeping the trip sustainable. 10/10.

It has been an amazing 10 day tour. We saw spectacular coastlines, rainforests that came out of a fairy tale, waterfalls and rivers large and small. We visited historical sites, had beautiful oysters (from a drive through window), warm bread freshly delivered to a roadside fridge, beautiful cheeses, chocolate and unique leatherwood honey. We were lucky to be a small group of 10 amiable people with the best of guides, Anthony, who looked after us so well (even going back to the Big Red Boat to retrieve something I had left behind). I loved listening to his tales especially those of him growing up in Tasmania. He also provided us with surprise stops like the organic fruit and veg shop for short season apples and red kiwifruit and the tractor graveyard. Anthony shared a magical place with us and I hope to return for more.
We flew from Texas to Tasmania for the first time and were so glad Hadyn was our guide on the 6-Day Comfort Tour. A Tasmanian native who has led many tours, his knowledge of the island's plants, animals and history kept us entertained throughout. Highly recommended if you want to see the island without the worries of driving it yourself.
I did the 6-day adventure tour — a good itinerary taking in many beautiful places and great wildlife. At 73 I did the intermediate and easy hikes and left the hard ones to the younger folks. What made it outstanding was our guide, Phil, extremely knowledgeable about the history, geology and wildlife, and a local who knew all the best spots.

After talking for years about wanting to see Tasmania, we finally took the plunge and went on a six day comfort tour with Under Down Under. We both had a fabulous time. Our guide Hadyn was amazing and went above and beyond to make sure everybody was taken care of (including carrying suitcases upstairs for elderly guests, replacing a lost charging cable and even climbing around in the steep bushland to find a hat blown off by the wind). He had lots to tell about the island, history, nature and animals and shared many interesting stories to entertain us on the longer stretches of road. We had a lovely small group of international travellers, which added to a great experience. The impressions we collected of the beautiful places we visited (and all the fun we had) will stay with us a long time.

As we are from the UK we have done group tours in Italy, Spain and Portugal and seen some wonderful things but our Tasmania tour eclipsed them all. We did the Tasmanian Discovery Comfort Tour which took us all around the island into several reserves and National Parks with beautiful mountainous and coastal scenery. Our wonderful tour guide Hadyn had an encyclopaedic knowledge of the islands fauna and flora but also entertained us with humorous anecdotes of his varied career and escapes. This is a tour not to be missed.
A very varied and interesting route that gave us a great sense of Tasmania's beauty. It's just as suitable for young, sporty travellers as for anyone else — a good mix for everyone.

The accommodation varied but always meant good beds, good food, hot showers and lovely surroundings. After years of talking about it we finally took the discovery tour around Tasmania, and it was amazing — a small, fun group, a fantastic guide, comfortable motel beds, good food and gorgeous scenery everywhere. In six days we circled the island with an extremely knowledgeable, skilful guide (Haydn) who did everything possible to make the trip safe and enjoyable. As a first-time solo visitor to Tasmania (booked via Trailfinders), the 5-night, 6-day tour was perfect. The scenery, mountains and beaches (like Honeymoon Bay), nature reserves and national parks were stunning — hard to pick a favourite, but probably Cradle Mountain and the Dove Lake walk in wind and sleet. Great-value tour around the whole island. Our guide Brendan was great with our mixed-nationality group, with good information on all the major sites and sensitivity to different hiking options (long, short or medium), plus well-informed stops for meals. The accommodation was comfortable and good value (we upgraded to comfort). I loved the animal spotting — wombats coming out of hibernation was a highlight, along with pademelons, wallabies and even a platypus — amazing landscapes, beautiful bays and ancient woodland.

The Explorer 6 was a lovely way to see very diverse parts of Tasmania. As a solo traveller it was a great way to experience the island without driving, and the lovely group was a bonus. We spanned a wide age range, and Under Down Under did a great job accommodating everyone's needs and fitness levels. Our wonderful guide Keygan really made the trip — a walking encyclopedia on Tasmania's natural and colonial history, considerate and involved, with infectious enthusiasm even on the rainy days. I joined a 6-day tour of Tasmania. Many thanks to our guide Justin — humorous, passionate, knowledgeable and friendly. The itinerary was well organised with enough time at each stop and plenty of rest breaks on long drives. Except in Hobart, meals mostly depend on the local supermarket, cafes and bakeries given the small towns, so it's worth bringing food to cook at the hostel. My friend and I had an amazing time!

This tour suited older guests perfectly — we could walk as much or as little as we liked, the driving was broken up by regular stops, and Hadyn had excellent coffee and food suggestions. As a small group we could tweak the schedule slightly to suit everyone. Highlights included the national park walks and waterfalls, Bay of Fires, the Gordon River cruise, the Dove Lake walk, the Unzoo and Eaglehawk Neck. A very professional, safety-conscious driver.

A wonderful 6-day comfort tour. Up bright and early, we really felt we experienced undiscovered Tasmania. Our guide Hayden was an excellent tour manager who knew when to avoid the crowds, and even arranged a group birthday dinner celebration. Coming from the US, I found this local operator offered great value for the price.

Keygan was very engaging and I never felt lonely in the group — I even got a little birthday surprise! The close encounters with wildlife and the breathtaking beaches stood out. Would totally recommend!
“Great trip”
Just back and it was fantastic. Tim was a superb guide — nothing was too much trouble and he knew everything. The tour was fairly fast-paced, letting us see so much in 6 days. I'd recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to lie in bed until 9am!

“Perfection in Tasmania”
We just completed the Explorer 6 with tour leader Hadyn Chilcott and loved our adventures. The itinerary gave a great introduction to the state, with our favourite days being Bay of Fires and Cradle Mountain/Strahan, and all our requested accommodations were excellent. Hadyn was always prompt, professional and accommodating, and his incredible knowledge of the flora and fauna enriched the experience, with contagious enthusiasm and energy. “Amazing tour with Tom”
An incredible 6-day tour with Tom! Every day we saw beautiful waterfalls and walking trails, and Tom shared so much information about each place and was a great person to chat with, joining every walk and excursion. Already can't wait to return to Tassie.
I took the 6-day Explorer with Lauren — a very well put together, fun tour. I highly recommend the play and penguin-tour add-ons. The accommodations are ok, and the west side of Tasmania has barely any cell service. Highly recommend this tour group — Tasmania is stunning.
The 6-day tour was AMAZING — I totally recommend it. You get to know a lot of Tasmania and its history in a short time, and meet amazing people. Keygan is without a doubt the best tour guide I've ever had!
I just finished the 6-day tour with Keygan, an amazing guide. The tour was filled with information about Tasmania and so much fun, the stops were beautiful and the accommodations clean and nice. My favourite part was the Marion's Lookout hike at Cradle Mountain.
Our driver Justin was fantastic — full of stories and history of the area — and he made us all welcome from pick-up to drop-off.
A fantastic tour covering a wide variety of Tasmanian locations, with a good range of walks and activities for all abilities and great guides (Keygan and others).
Our guide Doc (Shaun) was excellent, with very good communication and driving. The accommodation was more on the basic side.
An amazing tour last week in Tassie! Our guides Justin and Nat kept the vibes good and shared lots of stories about every place. I did the 6-day adventure trip, a great way to see Tassie's highlights without feeling rushed. 10/10 recommend!
“Misti is the best tour guide”
I loved this tour — it got us round some of the best sights in Tasmania in 6 days, with great walks. Our guide Misti made the trip everything it was: sharing interesting knowledge of the locals and environment, a source of inspiration and all-round happiness, keeping spirits high even in the rain and turning our group into a family. She's one of a kind. Areas to improve: one Launceston hostel wasn't the nicest, and some bus seats could use re-cushioning on the longer journeys.
A great time seeing lots of Tasmania's most wonderful places and delicious food, with an amazing guide and driver who shared lots of information.
A great tour. Our guide Steve knows the spots and the timing to beat the big crowds, so we often had a unique experience before other groups arrived.
“Taste of Tasmania- Bucket List Tour”
An excellent multi-day tour to explore Tasmania — the 6-day is the best. I loved the small group, the variety of hikes and the history of every location shared by our guide. A great tour for all ages and abilities. Thank you Justin — a tour guide extraordinaire.
Mostly excellent, and Lauren was great! One tip: bring plenty of water, as there was a stretch with nowhere to refill.
My husband and I just finished Explorer 6 and I can't recommend it enough — we'd never have seen so much in 6 days ourselves. Starting at Port Arthur and travelling in reverse through Freycinet, the East Coast, Cradle Mountain, the West Coast and Franklin-Gordon, we were picked up at 7am each morning with 2-3 big destinations a day, finishing around 6pm with plenty of evening time. Big thanks to Torin for organising it at short notice. Our guide Misty was AMAZING — lovely, fun and knowledgeable, organising each day perfectly with great stops and an on-point soundtrack. The tour involves a lot of walking (about 12km a day!) with easy or strenuous options at each location, so bring proper shoes. We saw wombats, echidnas, whales, pademelons and more, with plenty of food options and great local businesses like Kate's Berry Farm and Pyengana Dairy. We chose motels and weren't disappointed — all clean and quiet (Strahan even had heated sheets). Thoroughly enjoyed our time with Under Down Under; highly recommend.
A good tour with a well-balanced choice of optional hikes and walks, and Justin did a very good job. Next time I'd opt for the motel over the hostels.
Great places visited (we missed a couple due to weather — a good reason to return!). Our guide was brilliant and knowledgeable, with excellent food and coffee recommendations.

As well as the notable Tasmanian highlights, this trip takes you to lots of lesser-known but still great places that would take ages to research and reach yourself.
