Day 1 (Lunch / Dinner)

After picking you up from your accommodation in Alice Springs bright and early, we hit the road for five fantastic days of Outback adventure travel.  (For those commencing at Uluru, we will collect you from the Outback Pioneer Hotel or the airport)

Travel to Uluru - Kata Tjuta National Park with a few stops along the way for refreshments, a camel ride (own expense) and a chance to purchase Aboriginal paintings. Spend the afternoon at Uluru, which includes a visit to the Cultural Centre to learn about the Tjukurpa (Aboriginal law/religion), a full, guided base walk or a chance to climb (weather permitting) should you choose. Note: Uluru is a sacred site and Anangu, the indigenous custodians, respectfully ask visitors not to climb it.

View a magnificent Uluru sunset accompanied with a glass or two of sparkling wine before travelling to our remote campsite complete with safari tents. Enjoy a delicious meal, a couple of drinks and time to sit back to reflect on what you’ve seen on the first day of this Outback tour.

  • Outback Camel Farm
  • Mt Ebenezer Roadhouse
  • Mt Connor (Atila)
  • Uluru (Ayers Rock)

Day 2 (Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner)

Witness an impressive Uluru sunrise from a lookout close to our campsite. Enjoy breakfast, then travel to Kata Tjuta for a 7km hike through the magnificent "Valley of the Winds". After a leisurely lunch we travel to Curtin Springs Cattle Station where there’s plenty of time to get a close look at a typical working cattle station before we travel to Kings Creek Station for our second night at a remote outback campsite. Our private campsite at Kings Creek is miles from the crowds, which is where the feeling of ‘wayoutback’ really starts to take hold.  After a campfire dinner it's time to kick back and be mesmerised by the millions of stars on display. Star gazing in Central Australia is what Outback travel is about.

  • Uluru (Ayers Rock)
  • Kata Tjuta (the Olgas)
  • Curtin Springs
  • Kings Creek Station

Day 3 (Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner)

This morning take a guided walk to see the towering walls, crevices and plateaus of Watarrka (Kings Canyon). Visit the Amphitheatre, Lost City and the tranquil ‘Garden of Eden’.  After Watarrka we 4WD along the famous Mereenie Loop Road where you will be shaken and not stirred! Spot wildlife along the way before arriving at our permanent camp at Glen Helen, near the stunning waterhole that the traditional owners of this land believe is home to an ancient and powerful Rainbow Serpent.

  • Watarrka (Kings Canyon)
  • Mereenie Loop Road
  • Glen Helen

Day 4 (Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner)

Spend today exploring the mighty West MacDonnell Ranges. Travel off road to Ormiston Gorge, keep your eyes peeled for Perentie Lizards lazing along the banks and take a swim in the rock holes. Hike the “Ghost Gum Walk” before four wheel driving through the Owen Springs Reserve following the footsteps of the first European explorers. Tonight we rest at Owen Springs, spending a night 'Wayoutback' under the southern stars, complete with campfire and a hearty meal. Imagine what it was like for our first explorers discovering this raw and remote part of Central Australia – that’s Outback travel at its most adventurous!

  • Ormiston Gorge
  • Owen Springs Reserve

Day 5 (Breakfast / Lunch)

After a hearty breakfast we cross the famous Hugh River Stock to travel to the inspirational Oak Valley Aboriginal Community.  Spend time with the traditional owners exploring the land where you can try your hand at boomerang throwing, see ancient rock art paintings, and learn about the profound understanding the owners have of this pristine, remote place.

Travelling back to Alice Springs via the Old South Road, stop in at the Erwinga Art site before returning to your accommodation at approximately 5.30pm. After returning to civilisation, a hot shower awaits before joining the rest of the tour group for a farewell meal and few cold ales. Is this tour for me?

Our tours are made up of small groups with a range of different ages, nationalities and backgrounds. Generally people who travel with us are between 20 and 49, though we also get alot passengers much older onboard - everyone is welcome! On tour we get equally as many males as females and everyone shares an enthusiasm for the out doors, nature, adventure and culture. Our tours are for those wanting to really explore and share the experience with likeminded travellers. Whether we are camping by a billabong in Kakadu National Park or sharing a cabin in Tasmania, our travellers want more than just a site seeing tour. They are chasing a hands on group experience. The trips are packed with many highlights and the pace can be fast. There may be some long drives and passengers should expect to help out when setting up camp or cooking food - this is a group adventure. However, there’s always time to chill out, have a cold beer ( or wine! ) and soak up your surroundings. As always, if in doubt then contact us directly with your concerns.

We have many travellers jumping onboard our tours by themselves. Those travelling by themselves are very much welcomed and encouraged. During your outback adventure you'll meet new and interesting people and forge relationships that will last a life time.

Those who do travel by themselves will probably be sharing a room with a travelling companion of the same sex, but even if you do get your own room, you won't be charged extra. For camping tours, generally there are enough tents available that you can have your own if you choose to.

For more information please contact us directly.

I had the most amazing time on my 5 day red centre tour. My guide Steveo was fantastic - a great organiser, very knowledgable and a fab cook. A few things though: No one on tour knew that one night there'd be no toilet facilities, until our guide told us. I've read through the itinerary and it is not made clear. It wasn't a problem, but lots of us though Steveo was joking and didn't believe him until we were there. There was no debriefing about what to do if there was a medical emergency etc, which would have been nice seeing as there was no phone reception. It was difficult not being able to charge cameras etc. Overall, however, I have to say that I had a magnificent trip. We have such an amazingly beautiful country and the walking treks around the Olgas, Kings Canyon, Uluru and the gorges were out of this world! Steveo was so passionate and had loads of info to share and that was a real bonus! Thanks for a great experience!

I have to say that the tour was fantastic – I loved all the places we went to, where we camped and our guide Ralph was knowledgeable and respectful and engaging throughout. We also had an accident on tour that he dealt with very well and our group just coped without any issues. People places and locations were brilliant. The only real critique for me was around the food provision. I indicated that I was vegetarian (fish eater) and so while I know it can be hard to cater for a couple of different sorts of meals I was disappointed in that provision. On two of the nights the meals looked pretty substantial for the meat eaters (Bolognese with kangaroo meat or a 'thai' option with chicken strips) and the vegetarians (there were 3 of us on the trip) was simply the meal without meat. I don't think that's acceptable to just have the 'sauce' essentially. Breakfast was great each day and thankfully we had tuna for lunch otherwise there would have been no protein for us. On the third night we had veggie burgers which were great but while we had one burger each, meat eaters had a choices of burgers, sausages etc and it just felt a bit of a poor effort. The next night we were given tofu to cook but we had to have this with vegetables and cheese sauce – so again the extras that went with steak – and it was a bit of a mess. I know it can be hard if you're not vegetarian yourself to think about what is ok to cook and I would suggest using more protein based foods like Quorn (that has mince, pieces, filets and burgers) as an option other foods by sanitairum also have good options – even things like mince in a can! Its available at most supermarkets now and could be used as the meat substitute when meat is used elsewhere rather than simply going with out. I would have been happy to cook my own meals to accommodate this as well. Its a criticism just to help really because I thought the trip was a wonderful experience and I'd recommend it to anyone.
