I took the Perth to Exmouth tour as a solo female traveller and it was one of the best travel experiences I've had — and definitely the best road trip. Our group was small (7, mostly solo travellers), the hostels comfortable, and I felt safe throughout and enjoyed everyone's company. Darren is an amazing guide (watch out for his wicked sense of humour!). Highlights included the pink lake, the Kalbarri hike and the Warroora station stay, watching sunset on a secluded beach then gazing at the most beautiful night sky. It's not about luxury, it's the experience of a lifetime — I really recommend it, especially for solo travellers.
I did the Perth–Exmouth return in late May and, as someone over 70, chose a single room rather than the bunk dorms — very happy with all the accommodation. An absolutely unreal 10/10 experience — the Exmouth return tour was the highlight of my time in WA. One of the highlights of all my travels. An absolutely amazing road trip with so many unique places, including an outback farm with a beautiful private beach at sunset. It was very well organised, and Darren was a great driver, cook and guide who took wonderful care of us. Highly recommend — just maybe avoid late December, when it can get very hot (though feeling the 42°C was part of the adventure!).

Returning to Australia after 30 years for our Pearl Wedding Anniversary, we joined Red Earth Safaris to reach Ningaloo Reef and had the best time. We took in all the sights along the unspoilt coast up to Exmouth — even swimming with a manta ray — with local knowledge, food and accommodation all organised by Darren, a fantastic one-man show driving, cooking, guiding and looking after us. The most amazing tour — I'd recommend it to anyone wanting to truly experience more of Western Australia. It's a family-run business, and Darren and Nicola do an amazing job; everything went smoothly from booking, with Nicola very accommodating on any queries. Darren is a warm, friendly and knowledgeable guide and an excellent cook, making amazing dinners and lunches each day and staying in good spirits despite the long drives. Highlights were Monkey Mia and the cattle-ranch stay, where the farmers took us to a secluded beach for sunset on the sand dunes, plus the hiking trails and beaches. Highly recommend.

This is a family run business and they are so accommodating and helpful with any queries that I had from the moment of booking. Darren, our tour guide is amazing! He's really warm and friendly and took us to all the best spots. He's funny too and is an amazing cook, cooking for us each night the most delicious meals. He was also very accommodating to vegetarians too.
We were quite a big group on this tour but Darren made everyone feel at ease and we visited some amazing places.
A highlight was definitely Monkey Mia and the stay over at a cattle range where the farmers took us to a secluded beach to watch a gorgeous sunset on the sand dunes.
I enjoyed the chats with Darren in the bus during the long drives and getting to know the fellow travelers on the tour.
This tour was definitely well worth the money and you won't be disappointed!

Red Earth Safaris, 25 years later, now with our two 13 years olds and 17 years old the magic has not been lost.

Our trip along the West Coast of Australia with Boz (aka Darren) was the highlight of our 3 week family trip to Australia. After returning to Red Earth Safaris 25 years later now with our two 13 years olds and 17 years old the magic had not been lost.
Yes it is a Backpackers tour, but that's part of the charm, simple living, and just appreciating some of the magical places you get to see and lovely people you get to meet.
Yes there is a lot of driving but it's worth every mile. Sit back, relax and you never get bored of the Bush on the right and the coast on the left.
Boz took us to some amazing places, stunning beaches, coral, views, watching whales jump wherever we went (the right season), Waroora Station my favourite.
It was great mixing with the others on the trip and was a great experience for my kids mixing with the others travelling.
Accommodation on route was basic but good and looked forward to prepping our breakfast and lunches and Boz's culinary delights in the evening.
Lastly, it so easy to fly from Perth to Exmouth but you'd miss so much of what's in between and Boz does his very best to make sure you get to see it.
An amazing way to see WA.

What an amazing road trip — my friends and I had the best time. You hit all the popular spots over 8 days without it feeling rushed, and Darren was an excellent driver, guide, chef and organiser with a great sense of humour. The bus was comfy and the accommodation just right. Excellent value with all meals and accommodation included, and I made friends for life.

Had an absolutely brilliant time! Felt very looked after and got to do some incredible things, some hiking, snorkeling, dolphin feeding and staying on a ranch in the middle of nowhere with stars for company were the highlights. Had Darren as a guide who was brilliant, had loads of interesting stories and good advice for what to do, definitely new what he was doing which made everything so much better. If you're looking for an authentic, chilled-out, Aussie experience this is the one. In 8 days I saw all the key highlights. The Ningaloo Reef, Kalbarri National Park, and Monkey Mia were my favourites. I shared the experience with a great bunch of people and Darren was a great tour guide.
There were regular stops and plenty of bus snoozes haha! After we had explored in the day, everyone enjoyed a drink together in the evenings. We saw some beautiful sunsets too.

A great tour — the activities were a ton of fun and our guide did an excellent job. My one small note is that Turquoise Bay and the whale shark dive fell on the same day, so I had to choose between them; shuffling the schedule so they're on different days would be even better. Other than that, an amazing tour!
One of the best tours I've been on. Darren was a great guide, very knowledgeable and passionate about Australia, and while we had a great group he made a point of making sure no one felt left out. Great price for what you get, decent hostels, plenty of food and lots of space on the bus. Make sure you do the whale shark swim — it was amazing — and bring fly nets, as they're relentless at points!

We wanted a budget, small group tour that was laid back and friendly, while showing us the highlights of the beautiful coast from Perth to Exmouth. Red Earth Safaris gave us all this and more. Darren, our guide, bus driver and cook had all the best qualities of a tour guide- chilled and laid back, with a wicked sense of humour, yet there when you needed help and very knowledgeable. The small group were very friendly and inclusive, while the range of environments and experiences offered in such a short period were incredible, only making us want to see more of this diverse and beautiful landscape. The climax of Ningaloo Reef and the many available opportunities to explore this wonder gave us memories we won't forget. Great value for money and very highly recommended.

We couldn't be happier with this tour — Darren was incredible, from his driving to his cooking and knowledge. All the stops, sights and activities were amazing and will stay with us for life, the food was lovely and the accommodation was to a high standard. One tip: if you're a couple debating the room upgrade, pay the extra — we upgraded after the first night and it was perfect. A huge thank you to Darren!
We're glad we used Red Earth Safaris to tour the coast between Perth and Exmouth. The distances are huge, but Darren drove well and showed us many interesting sites — a very knowledgeable guide. I joined the tour in 2023 and can't recommend it highly enough. Darren is a friendly, informative guide whose experience of the area really enhances the trip. The stops are well-selected, the accommodation great, the food tasty and the bus comfortable. Such a great trip — we saw so much on our journey from Perth to Exmouth, in a small, easy-going group of 13. Darren, our driver and guide, did a great job looking after us. I'd highly recommend this backpacker tour, even for older travellers. Great job Dazza!
Red Earth Safaris is the way to go to explore the West Coast. The tour is run by Darren, born and bred in WA and very knowledgeable about everything around — snorkelling, a cattle-station stay, wildlife, big distances, beaches and sunsets. Some days have split options (I did both the manta ray and whale shark snorkelling — both recommended). Absolutely recommend.

Wow, wow, wow! What an incredible 8-day experience, from sandboarding in Lancelin to snorkelling with Manta Rays on the Ningaloo Reef, from walking up to Nature's Window, and down the Z Bend to the Gorge in the Kalbarri National Park, and sleeping in sheep shearers accommodation It was full on every day.
Darren, our tour guide drove the 3,300kms round trip, cooked for us, although he made us wash up each night, had us all laughing with his stories, and provided us with a wealth of knowledge at each stop! There was a great group of people on the trip, and we finished each evening with the obligatory alcoholic drink.

A small family-owned business running a fabulous, well-paced, great-value trip that ticks off many must-do spots along the west coast. Our guide and owner Darren — affectionately nicknamed Razzle Dazzle by our group — is a top bloke: great humour, helpful, thoughtful and a safe driver who puts together a good feed. He doesn't lead you around by the nose but makes sure you have all the info and tips to get the most out of each destination, and patiently answers the same question over and over. This trip was one of the best experiences ever! Darren is an absolutely brilliant tour guide and couldn’t have asked for better banter and also knowledge from him. He knows the perfect places to go and stay and I loved every minute of it! Accommodation was basic but much better and cleaner than I expected - even on the farm stay which was an amazing evening under the stars. The group we had was also really good and we all got along well and bonded together making brekkie and lunches. Darren’s cooking was also a highlight and helped make the trip even more relaxing. Overall would say this trip was jam packed with unreal places visited and Darren and his chat made the driving well worth it!

“Incredible trip up WA”
What can I say? The WA tour was really special. Darren is a good bloke with a classic dry sense of humour which really made me chuckle. A lot of driving was done, but we saw some amazing things that will stay with me forever. My personal favourites being the Kalbarri National Park and Turquoise Bay. Stunning views, beautiful beaches and incredible nature and wildlife.
The accommodation for all the stops were all fine (we upgraded to private rooms, so can't comment on dorms) and the food that was cooked was really good and tasty, but simple. That is in no way a criticism at all, as cooking for groups of 15+ with the occasional fussy eater must be difficult and I don't envy someone having to do that! BBQ night and the chicken dinner on the cattle station come to mind as my favourites.
It was a really great experience and thanks again to Darren and Red Earth for showing us about. I really admired Darren's knowledge and respect that he had for the local areas/nature etc.
If you are thinking of travelling up the coast of WA, then I can't recommend Darren and Red Earth enough. We had a really good group and will never forget it.

Best tour of WA. The tour has a personal touch with Darren offering a ‘local knowledge’ tour with smaller groups of people, allowing him to really get to know the group. The tour stops at all the highlights of the West Coast, with Darren managing to visit the tourist spots outside of the busier times, allowing you to have the majority of places to yourselves.
This is the second time I have been on this tour, 10 years apart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if I made it back in 10 years again.
Would definitely recommend to both backpackers and those wishing to get a more authentic trip up the West coast.

“Road Trip from Perth to Exmouth”
Amazing trip with lots of adventures along the way from Perth to Exmouth. Darren was a superb, knowledgable guide for the journey and also great cook providing to all dietary requirements. The scenery is spectacularly, with sand boarding, beaches, treks in the National park, staying in remote cattle station and then of course Ningaloo reef with all it has to offer. What a fantastic trip — every day a different experience. Brett our guide was so knowledgeable with so many interesting stories and insights. He was full of enthusiasm and energy. No food provided Friday lunch or Saturday evening (I think you're less likely to be disappointed if you know about it). BUT I cannot stress it was great tour. The manta and whaleshark options Red Earth have a deal with are good. Farm stay was my favourite night. Definitely worth having someone do all the driving for you and this tour guide made it so much more.

An interesting way to get from Perth to the whale sharks at Exmouth without driving 1300km yourself. Darren was organised but easy-going, informative and helpful. It's a backpacker-level trip with basic dorm or upgrade-double accommodation, but the trip itself was five-star. The usual stops — sandboarding, the Pinnacles, Geraldton, Monkey Mia — were all included, with the Kalbarri loop walk and the beachside sheep farm the highlights. The optional Coral Bay manta ray and turtle tours were well worth it.

The best and easiest way to discover the coast from Perth to Exmouth. Darren was easy-going while making sure we saw everything, the hostel accommodation was pleasantly surprising and the food always great. Our group ranged from early 20s to 60+, all there to enjoy and explore.

An amazing, very well-planned trip. Darren knew exactly the best spots and gave us enough time at each — Geraldton, Kalbarri, Shark Bay, Coral Bay, Exmouth. My favourite was the farm stay at Warroora, sleeping in the open under a million stars, followed by the snorkelling at Coral Bay with its beautiful marine life. Great value and an experience to remember for a lifetime.

“Unbelievable Experience”
We just got back from the most amazing 8-day Perth–Exmouth return trip. Our guide Brett was so much more knowledgeable and fun than we could have expected, with endless stories and facts that kept everyone engaged over the longer drives. Every stop was amazing; the longer journeys are broken into manageable chunks, and the sheep station offered an incredible view of the Milky Way — definitely take the option to sleep outside. All the food included is fab and nearly all meals are covered, making it great value. We couldn't fault it at all.
“Active tour in remote WA”
I joined the Perth to Exmouth return tour with leader Brett and had a great time. It was a small, relaxed group, and although I'm a 40-something from South Australia among mostly younger travellers, I fitted in fine. It's an active tour — sandboarding, hiking in Kalbarri, optional manta and whale shark swims — with early starts that reward you with magical sunrises. Brett was a fantastic, enthusiastic guide and a great cook. I paid the single supplement for my own room, which I appreciated. Both the manta ray and whale shark swims were magical and I highly recommend them. May was a great time to go.

“Best perth-exmouth tour with cool guide Spider-Brett”
Did the one-way tour with guide Brett (Spider-Brett) — much better than self-driving if you're solo. We saw the most interesting places along the way with a good mix of ages and nationalities, and Brett is a motivated, inspiring guide, driver, entertainer and cook, handling even two broken tyres well. Be aware it's a lot of driving! The whale shark tour is a must, and the accommodation is basic but good, with the best open-air star-viewing since Uluru — sleep outside, it's awesome!

“Amazing Tour...You will not be disappointed”
The 8-day Perth to Exmouth return trip was worth every penny. Darren, our guide and the owner, was great from booking to the end, and every day had a wow factor — sleeping under the stars at the farm stay, stunning near-empty beaches, a spectacular canyon, the Pinnacles and sandboarding. Snorkelling with a manta, sharks and coral was my personal highlight. My new friends said it was far better (and cheaper) than the Great Barrier Reef. Highly recommend!

“Perth - Exmouth - Perth”
This tour was recommended to me and I really enjoyed it. The highlights — the Pinnacles, Z-Bend Gorge, Nature's Window, Shark Bay, Monkey Mia dolphins, the outback sheep station, Coral Bay and the Ningaloo Reef — were all amazing. The food was nice (Darren is a good cook) and the itinerary well planned, so even the long-driving days weren't too exhausting. If you want to see WA between Perth and Exmouth, this tour is a must!

I just returned from the 8-day Exmouth tour and I'm so happy I saw what Western Australia offers beyond Perth. Darren was an amazing guide who took time to explain things and made sure we had enough time at every place; with a food allergy, I found he went above and beyond to keep everything safe. I loved the itinerary — amazing sunsets (the best at Warroora Farm, with an entire beach to ourselves), dolphins at Monkey Mia, the Pinnacles and Ningaloo Reef. Definitely recommend!
A really good tour, surely recommended for all nature lovers. The places visited are stunning and remote, so it would be much harder to do the same trip on your own. Go for it!

I did the 8-day Perth–Exmouth tour and it was amazing — so many beautiful things, with a great variety of nature, some hikes, optional abseiling and snorkelling. Our guide was knowledgeable and did everything to make it a fantastic trip (he even lent us his GoPro and sent us the footage afterwards). Great value, with everything included except two meals and some optional activities.
Such a good tour — an easy way to see the best of WA with minimum effort. Going from red outback desert to some of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen was amazing, and the hostels were above the standard of most in Australia. My guide Darren was helpful, patient and informative, and did all the cooking (we just cleaned up). Would definitely recommend, especially if you only have a short time in Australia — it's a great taste of everything.

As backpacker-standard trips go, this is top notch — jam-packed with activities but still arriving by late afternoon with free evenings. Our small, varied group of mostly solo travellers all made friends and had fun together. Every stop is stunning — sunset at the Pinnacles, wildlife parks, beautiful beaches, a farmstay, snorkelling, dolphins — with no pressure or hard sell on the extras. Accommodation is hostel-style with upgrade options, and all meals were provided. Our guide Brett was awesome: a great caterer, driver and passionate storyteller. If you want a budget trip to meet people and experience the sights between Perth and Exmouth without rushing, this is it.

We travelled from Monday to Exmouth by Friday, enjoying wonderful panoramas and lots of activities (walking, beaches, snorkelling, an amazing farm), with Darren taking time to explain the history, ecology and fun facts of each place. I did the Perth–Exmouth trip when I first got to Australia and wasn't disappointed. Doing it alone would have been expensive and a long drive, so I booked with Red Earth Safaris and knew from the moment I stepped on the bus I'd made the right decision. Being low season, our small group instantly hit it off. We saw and did so many amazing things — everything on my list — and Darren knew all the best spots and was full of interesting facts. The food and accommodation are basic, but I loved having dinner cooked every night. Highlights: cuddling a baby joey and swimming with a manta ray at Ningaloo. 100% recommend.

If you want to travel north from Perth, look no further. We did the East Coast first and thought nothing would beat it — we couldn't have been more wrong. There were six of us of all nationalities, with Darren our guide, and I had the best days of my seven weeks travelling. We saw so much — rescued kangaroos and joeys, the Pinnacles at sunset, sandboarding and abseiling in Kalbarri — and bonded more as a group each day. Ningaloo Reef and Turquoise Bay were the highlights; if you can, do the manta ray snorkel. The bus was comfortable, the food lovely, and Darren was amazing. I cannot recommend this tour enough!

My two children (aged 15 and 12) and I travelled from Perth to Exmouth with guide Jared and a lovely group, and had a thoroughly enjoyable time. Jared went above and beyond to keep everyone safe, informed and well fed — a great cook and a great bloke. We loved all the stops and excursions, and it was a great experience for my kids to pitch in with the food and washing up. Highly recommend — and do the manta ray swim!

A big thank you to our driver Jared, who made the long drive tolerable and went out of his way to give us a great trip. As a couple in our 50s we struggled to find WA tours, but were very happy with this company. It's a backpacker-style tour of up to 20 people with a diverse range of ages and nationalities; we upgraded to a private room and appreciated the privacy. Meals were varied and generous, and Jared took great care of my food allergy. At each location we had the right amount of time, and the abseiling at Kalbarri was amazing. A long trip of over 3000km, but we saw far more than driving ourselves — thank you Jared!

I booked this tour to get to Exmouth to swim with whale sharks, but there were so many other highlights that the whale sharks were the icing on the cake — and I recommend the abseiling too. I was a little worried being just over 50, but our diverse group of solo travellers made that no issue at all. Our guide Darren was great, catering for everyone without trouble, and all the accommodation was basic, clean and comfortable. I'll be recommending this company to anyone thinking of travelling WA on a budget.

A fantastic week and a perfect glimpse of the north of Perth. Darren (Booz) and Nicola replied straight away — a small, family-run business — and Darren drove and organised all the food and stops. He's a great host who knows the country and wildlife and clearly loves it. Don't expect fancy frills; the trip shows you the vastness and beauty of the land and ocean, with clean, comfortable accommodation. Highlights were the bush scenery, the remote beaches, and the night at the sheep station sleeping under a huge sky of stars. Totally recommend!

I looked into lifts, buses, car hire and flights to Exmouth, and I'm so glad I chose Red Earth in the end. Thanks to our guide Jared for the delicious meals and shared knowledge. I absolutely loved staying at the farm, riding to the beach on the back of a Jeep with kangaroos alongside, and sleeping under the stars — and if you get the chance, go snorkelling with the mantas. I'd have missed out on so much without this 8-day Perth to Exmouth tour!

We spent a week on the Perth to Exmouth tour and were impressed from minute one. Our flight landed just as the tour was due to depart, and Booz (owner and guide) made an early coffee stop and arranged for us to be picked up and join the bus — hugely grateful for that flexibility. After four months travelling many countries, we both agreed Booz was the best guide we'd had anywhere: relaxed, fun and knowledgeable. It was nice to sit back on the long drives hearing stories of the areas, and the sights were stunning with plenty of stops. Cannot recommend these guys enough!
