Exmouth in summer

Hot, dry and in the waterTurtles on the beaches, mantas on the reef, and the coral a few steps from the sand.

Hot, dry and all about the water. Learmonth, the weather station for Exmouth, averages 37 to 38°C by day from December to February, with nights of 21 to 24°C and 6 to 38mm of rain a month. That is what Ningaloo is for: it is a fringing reef, so at Turquoise Bay and Coral Bay you walk into the coral straight off the beach. Summer is turtle season, with turtles nesting on the beaches from November to March and hatching from January, and manta rays are on the reef year round. The trips from Perth take six to eight days, from $1,449.

Checked on 28 October 2026.

Exmouth sits at the top of a peninsula on the Tropic of Capricorn, with a World Heritage reef on its doorstep. In summer the reef is the whole point: the coral starts metres from the sand, so a hot day here is a day spent with a mask on, and the beaches have turtles coming ashore to nest.
