You just swim out from shore and suddenly you’re in a world of coral, fish, turtles and manta rays. Swimming above these enormous, majestic creatures is really something else, they might even put on an acrobatic show for you! Not much of a swimmer? You should still wear a hat though. Main stop for the day is Shell Beach, which, much as name would suggest, is a beach made of shells. What’s quite incredible about the place however is the amount of shells that there are. Locals have been using them in various industries for years, yet they still cover a stretch 60 km long and up to 7 metres deep. Tonight we stay in Monkey Mia.

It is not necessary to bring any medical supplies other than any personal items you may require. Each tour will carry an first aid box and our guides are all certified in First Aid.
How much luggage can I take?
We don't have an exact policy when it comes to luggage though we just ask our customers to be mindful that we have limited space. Generally we recommend people to bring a large backpack/suitcase with all their gear and another smaller backpack to keep on the bus and hold their daily items ( phone, water bottle, towel, sunscreen etc ) and which they used to take on walks etc. If you have a lot of luggage is best to leave the things you don't need at your hotel/hostel where they will store it for free.
Where can I store my luggage whilst on tour?
During the tour your main luggage will be stored in our trailer. This trailer is always locked however we cannot guarantee the complete safety of your gear from theft or damage. This is why it is so important to purchase a good travel insurance. If you need to store your luggage whilst away on tour, this can be done through your accommodation. Most hostel and hotels will store your luggage safely free of charge.

For camping tours there will be no time to do laundry. However, for longer cross country tours involving hostel or hotel style accommodation you may have the opportunity to wash your clothes.

Do I need travel insurance?
Insurance is important in protecting visitors from loss or damange of goods, medical problems, cancelation by passengers or other casualties. Its highly recommended. Some tours on this website require you to have travel insurance. If you are Australian then it is not necessary.
Can I get online whilst travelling?

If you have a mobile plan with internet then that should be ok except for more remote regions. This will vary from tour to tour so please contact us directly for more accurate information.

Who travels with us
Is this tour for me?
Our tours are made up of small groups with a range of different ages, nationalities and backgrounds. Generally people who travel with us are between 20 and 49, though we also get alot passengers much older onboard - everyone is welcome! On tour we get equally as many males as females and everyone shares an enthusiasm for the out doors, nature, adventure and culture. Our tours are for those wanting to really explore and share the experience with likeminded travellers. Whether we are camping by a billabong in Kakadu National Park or sharing a cabin in Tasmania, our travellers want more than just a site seeing tour. They are chasing a hands on group experience. The trips are packed with many highlights and the pace can be fast. There may be some long drives and passengers should expect to help out when setting up camp or cooking food - this is a group adventure. However, there’s always time to chill out, have a cold beer ( or wine! ) and soak up your surroundings. As always, if in doubt then contact us directly with your concerns.
Cost and Fees
What does "Paid Locally" mean?
Some tours require you to pay national park fees directly, in cash, to the tour guide on the morning of departure. Rest assured this will be subtracted from the tour price when reserving your tour.
Will I need additional money?
Visitors are advised to bring some cash as ATMs and banks can be few and far between depending on where we are during the trip. Its handy to have some extra cash as we do stop by local shops and cafe.
Do I need to tip our guide?
If you had an amazing time on tour and wish to tip the guide, then that is completely up to you. However, tipping is not customary and is not at all expected.
Are there any hidden fees I need to know about?
Our tour prices are completely transparent. There are no additional fees involved that are not included in the overall tour price shown. If you wish to do optional activities such as helicopter rides or wildlife safaris, then an extra cost may be needed. However, this will always be made clear at the time of your booking.
Whilst on tour
What type of tent will I get?
Tents are generally designed to accommodate a minimum of 2 people. This means there is plenty of room to move about and store your luggage. However, most Uluru tours we try and encourage the use of swags and mattress rather than tents. This is the ideal way to camp in the centre of Australia; Around a campfire, under the stars!
What will the food be like?
Our emphasis is on fresh food wherever possible and our meals are nutritious and varied on these tours. If you are vegetarian or gluten intolerant we can cater for you, but if you have very specific dietary needs you may need to provide your own food, please discuss this at time of booking. For breakfast we supply cereals, fruits, toast, tea and coffee. Lunch is usually a self-serve picnic sandwich and salads; in the evening we have a cooked dinner - This can vary between pastas, bbqs, rices and other hearty food to keep you energized! We always carry water in the vehicle and you will often have the chance to buy your own drinks, ice-creams etc at stops. Please refer to each individual tour/package to establish which meals are included.
Can you cater of special diets?
We can certain cater for most dietary needs. Please advise us at the time of your booking so arrangements can be made. For travellers with more extreme diets we may ask that you bring along additional snacks.
Can I book extra accommodation for the start and end of the tour?
We know our country inside and out and would be happy to give you good recommodations. Please contact us for recommendations.
Are there days where we travel for a long time?
During the first day we usually do a couple of hours driving to get out of the city and into the country side. However, once in the national parks, trips between attractions usually take between 30minutes to an hour. For tours heading up to Darwin or down to Adelaide, expect periods where we drive for a few hours at a time. Australia is enormous and the distance between towns and attractions can be quite large. But don't worry, we take plenty of breaks so your able to stretch and move about. For more accurate information please see tour itineraries.
What will the weather be like?
Between the months of April and August Central Australia is quite cold so be sure to bring warm clothing. Temperatures range from about 20c during the day right down to 2c at night.Between October and March temperature are warm, so light clothing during the day is ok. However, night times can still be quite cool so its wise to bring light winter clothing for extra warm.
Where do I meet the tour?
For pick up times and locations, please check out the "Start/Finish" section directly under the itinerary. Here we list everywhere we can pick up from and their respective times. There is a lot of information here to help you plan your flights and arrival. Please review careful as these can vary from tour to tour.
What is the weather like in Western Australia?
WA is Australia’s largest state, comprising one-third of its land mass. In the north much of the landscape is barren. The Great Sandy Desert fringes the central-west coast. The Nullarbor, a vast dry plain, sweeps across the south and over the border into South Australia (SA). The southwestern corner of the state is a fertile area of forest and vineyards, and is only small in comparison to the size of the rest of WA.Interesting variations in landscape include the Kimberley in the extreme north of the state, a wild and rugged area with a convoluted coastline and stunning inland gorges. The Pilbara, in the northwest, is magnificent ancient-rock and gorge country from which the state derives vast mineral wealth. Away from the coast most of WA is simply a huge empty stretch of outback: along with the Nullarbor Plain and the Great Sandy Desert, the Gibson and Great Victoria Deserts cover much of the state. It’s tropical in the north, where the Dry and Wet seasons replace winter and summer. The Dry lasts from June to August and the Wet from December to February, with monsoonal rain falling from January onwards. The rain can render roads impassable and Port Hedland weathers a serious cyclone at least every two years. In the interior the climate is semi-arid and arid. The southwest of WA is temperate. It’s often above 25°C here while the average temperature along the Kimberley coast is a heavenly 28°C. Up in the Pilbara temperatures can soar to an enthusiasm-depleting 48°C.
Reviews
“Best experience!”
This tour was amazing! I loved it from start to finish. Our tour guide Lorrie was incredible - she was so knowledgeable about the area and presented everything in a very culturally sensitive way throughout the tour. She gave us different options of things do at different locations, helped a lot of us through our first ever swag camping experience (!) and was such great company (with great music taste), she really made the tour for us - I can't recommend her and the company enough. Will definitely go with Adventure Tours again!
“Sights made better by stories”
I peppered our guide, Mitch with incessant questions over our three night adventure. He always had a fascinating fact on hand or an engaging story to tell, often relating to his learnings from the traditional owners.
Great energy, genuine engagement and a host of funny stories. It's a fine art to run a tour and not sound like you're repeating yourself, or you're bored with what you're sharing; and Mitch always felt earnest in his manner.
“Just do it”
Couldn't have asked for a better experience. Our guide Mitch was exceptionally knowledgeable of the area, providing great cultural and historical context at every point. On top of that, it was just a load of fun. 10/10 would recommend.
“Genial”
Great! Brilliant starry sky! Our guide imparted a lot of knowledge about the region and its inhabitants. It was very relaxed and yet we saw and experienced a lot. Above all, we were so at the right time in busy places. That made us absorb the atmosphere well. Thank you Mitch!
“Great experience that will accompany me for years to come.”
Great experience where you could learn a lot about the culture, the land and nature. Mitch our guide was super nice and very funny.
“Amazing sights and the best tour guide Lorrie”
Lorrie is an incredible tour guide! She has so much knowledge and is the woman with all the answers. Not only is she a tour guide but she formed a very special place in our group as a friend, being so down to earth, kind and funny. She also can cook up a very delicious meal and doesn't mind catering to any dietary requirements. We were kept punctual meaning that we got to spend so much time at places exploring. She knows the best sunset spots too. Thank you Lorrie
“Beautiful area with a great guide”
An incredible three nights/four day tour. 100% recommend.
Our guide was Lorrie - she was the best. Very knowledgeable, friendly, and a great cook. She showed us all the best spots for seeing the sunrises and sunsets.
The swags were surprisingly comfortable and sleeping under the stars was amazing.
A wonderful trip with a brilliant guide.
“ One of the best investments ever!”
An adventure indeed! Stunning views and a camping experience of a life time! The tour was well-coordinated and organised. Our tour guide Lorrie definitely made the tour exceptionally memorable, being knowledgeable, respectful, and professional. She made sure we were on-time, safe, and always went out of her way to make sure we made the most of our experience. Definitely recommended!
“Great guide & unique camping experience in The Red Centre”
A great way to experience Uluru- camping in the outback underneath the stars! Swags were daunting at first (coming from a very non-camper) but were suprisingly warm & comfy. Our guide Lorrie was wonderful, down to earth and looked after our group very well. She was very knowledgable about all the amazing attractions we saw and our tour ran without a hitch. I got to see and do what I wanted without having to worry about all of the logistics. I live in a major metro city and I would highly recommend this tour if you would like to experience something new & different in where else, but The Red Centre!
“Adventure tours lives up to its name”
Adventure tours really lives up to its name. It was a really fabulous experience overall. Our tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable, warm, friendly and well organised. I loved the variety on the tour. The tent accommodation was a lot better than I was expecting and sleeping in swags was a great experience. The hikes and other destinations were really amazing. The only downside was the poor transport which was unreliable resulting in us having to swap vehicles numerous times and also wait for parts to arrive. Key equipment (a jack) was not in one of the vehicles when we got a flat tyre. This could have had a really negative impact on the trip if not for a lot of good luck our tour guides resilience and problem solving skills. She ensured we got there in the end and hit all the destination points of the itinerary (without feeling rushed) by changing the order of the itinerary. Despite the transport issues I would still highly recommend this trip.
“Amazing time in Ayers Rock”
I had an amazing time with Asha as a guide. Great hikes, beautiful sunsets and sunrises, good campsites and the food is really tasty. I can only recommend it!
“Would recommend”
We did the 3 night tour from Yulara and Jackson was our tour guide. We learned so much from him about the area, history and local communities. We had the best time and would recommend! The tour was organised really well and we loved everything we got to do. The sunrise base walk at Uluru and the hike in Kings Canyon were the highlights for us.
“100% recommended trip!”
100% recommend the 3 nights/ 4 days tour to the red center with Adventure tours. Best tour to get to know the history/ stories of the Aboriginal people and to visit their sacred sites.
Our guide Lorrie was exceptional. She was very knowledge and flexible to all our needs. She made extra effort to make the trip a memorable and comfortable one for everyone in our group.
Sunrises and sunsets were exceptional sceneries throughout the trip. Swag sleeping was surprisingly comfortable. Food was good. Other facilities - toilets, baths, dining, kitchen and travelling were well organized.
An amazing trip overall.
“Wow experience”
A good skilled and enthusiastic guess guide"Mtch"
He was a good driver, narrator, cook and host.
No regrets this tour
Tip of our drinking with meals is desirable.
We booked this through travel agency Van Raak from Baarle Nassau.
“Nice time, thanks Mitch”
I had a wonderful time on the camping tour! Everything was super organized and the atmosphere was very pleasant. I especially liked the trips. They were varied, well planned and really fun. You could experience a lot while enjoying nature. I felt completely comfortable and would participate again at any time. Thanks for the lovely time Mitch. Highly recommended!
“Thank you Mitch!!!”
Mitch was an absolutely outstanding tour guide! From start to finish, he made the trip engaging, fun, and incredibly informative. His knowledge of the places we visited was impressive, he clearly knew what he was talking about and was able to share it in a way that was easy to understand and enjoyable to listen to.
What stood out the most was his passion. You could tell he genuinely cared about what he was sharing with us, and that enthusiasm was contagious. It made the whole experience so much more memorable and meaningful.
Mitch went above and beyond to make sure everyone felt included, comfortable, and well looked after throughout the trip. I can’t recommend him enough!
“one of the best experience ever!”
it was my first camping trip and I was nervous. But Lorrie showed up! our guide Lorrie is very professional and gave us detailed instructions before every activity. (Btw we are fans of her food. Her food is amazing even tho she doesn’t admit it hahaha). And luckily we also met very nice 12 camping pals, living like a family and still get in touch after trips. Btw the equipments like the showers in camp is also great. in the end I want to say that I flew from China just for visiting Ulura. I am so glad that I chose Adventure Tours to fulfilled my dream and even brought more unexpected happy memories.(in Chinese:Adventure Tours
“Beyond Expectations”
The trip was perfect, well planned and organised. Our tour guide, Ryan, was responsible, professional, and had a great sense of humour. He also shared fascinating insights into the culture, history, and native plants along the way. The accommodation exceeded my expectations: clean, comfortable, and well-equipped. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone planning to visit the Red Centre.
“Super fun!”
Such a fun and memorable trip with some hard work but some beautiful sights. Shout out to Ryan for being the best tour guide. Still don’t know how he puts in all those hours but he was super energetic and gave us a lot of laughs.
“Uluṟu tour”
Tye was a fantastic tour guide! Made the tour what it was! We had a great time! We chose to get the tents which were very comfortable. 10/10 would recommend.
“Trip to Ayers Rock”
My tour guide was Tye, he was an amazing tour guide had a lot of knowledge about the outback and always took time to explain everything to us in detail and every question was met with a well explained answer. You could really tell that Tye enjoyed his job and had a lot of knowledge.
“Amazing experience! Tye the best tour guide!”
We had a fantastic experience on this tour! Our guide, Tye, was amazing — very knowledgeable about the Red Centre, well-organised, and always in good spirits. His knowledge and passion for Aboriginal culture was exceptional, and he really got the entire group engaged in learning about the culture of the Red Centre. He went out of his way to make everyone’s experience easier and more enjoyable.
The highlights for us were the base walk around Uluru and the breathtaking hike at Kings Canyon.
Be aware that it’s a participatory tour, so everyone pitches in with small tasks like setting up swags, helping with dinner, and washing dishes.
Overall, the experience in the Outback was truly unforgettable — a great way to explore such a unique and special part of Australia.
“Tye-riffic time!!!”
We had the absolute best time with Tye as our guide! The tour and his knowledge was exceptional, the activities were so fun! He was a great chef, driver and host and made out Uluru experience the best!
“Tye-m of my life”
I have had the best experience ever with Adventure Tours. Our tour guide Tye was a key part of our trip, with incredible knowledge of aboriginal culture and the landscape we explored. Tye couldn’t do enough for us, cooking, driving and telling jokes. An experience I’ll never forget!
“Would highly recommend”
It was a really nice tour, everything was really well organized. Our guide Tye made sure that everyone had the best experience.
“Memories for a lifetime”
I did the 4 day red centre trip sleeping in swags with Autopia Tours. Communication was good prior to the tour date.
We had a great multi international group of people who all mucked in when preparing meals and cleaning up the aftermath.
Our guide was Damian who worked really hard and provided great information regarding the locations we passed and visited during the tour.
In addition details of the indigenous culture and people of the region.
The scenery, sunrises/sunsets were absolutely tremendous.
Depending on the time of the year early starts are essential to see the magnificent sunrises.
Pickup 1st day was 6am, next 2 days it was up at 5am and on the road for 6am. 4th day was more leisurely up at 6:10am. Who can forget the stunning surroundings and campground locations and not forgetting the night sky’s which were free of light pollution.
A tremendous experience not to be missed.
I would happily go on another tour with Autopia. Thank you Damian and Autopia.
“10 days adventure tour Uluru with Captain Vegemite”
It was a great 10 days trip from Yulara with our tourguide Wayne. He knows a lot of the Aboriginals culture, the surroundings, bushcraft and has a great sense of humor. It was a great adventure with camping (sleeping in a swag or a tent), joint cooking and do the dishes, but most of all great hikes, great views and we learned a lot about the Aboriginals and history. And although it is a 3,5 hours ride to Kings Canyon on day 2, it was totally worth it. The spectacular views, the challenging hike makes it one of the highlights of our visit of Australia.
“An unforgettable 7-day adventure through the Red Centre”
I went on Adventure Tours at the Red Centre in September and it was definitely a highlight of my Australian days!
Our guide Captain Vegemite has years of experience, was funny and easy going, at the same time always attentive and reliable. His stories (including his Vegemite love 😅) made the tour unique.
Procedure & highlights
• Day 1: Pick up in Yulara on time, drive to camp, group performance, then Walpa Gorge Walk at Kata Tjuta and finish with Uluru sunset with snacks. Afterwards, dinner together, prepare swags and sleep under the starry sky.
• Day 2: Very early out to sunrise at Uluru, then almost did the complete base walk. Waterhole and rock drawings of the Anangu are explained. Afternoon drive towards Kings Canyon (via Mt Conner) and new camp. There, dinner, campfire, steamer baked and end the evening.
• Day 3: Early departure to Kings Canyon Rim Walk (about 6 km) – for me the highlight of the tour! Stunning scenery with Garden of Eden. After lunch and back to Yulara. In the evening we will have dinner together, campfire and optionally the opportunity to go to the Field of Lights or something similar.
• Day 4: Relaxed breakfast, packing things, last photos and goodbye.
Essen & Camp
The food was varied and delicious, even vegetarian options were always there. Showers and toilets were better than expected, of course camping style, but absolutely okay. There were also charging options for mobile phone and camera.
Tipps:
• In September it can get cool at night (sometimes only 5 °C) → pack warm clothes! In the swag it gets warm quickly, they are well insulated.
• Be sure to wear hiking boots or dark shoes (the red sand will color).
“Fabulous tour - an awesome experience we’d recommend”
Such a great experience!! Camp experience was awesome and the sights were nothing short of spectacular. Mitch was excellent as a guide - great knowledge of the area, background and customs and fab cooking to boot.
“Great trip through and around Uluru with the best tour guide Rya”
All of the walks around Uluru, Kings canyon, and katajuka range were amazing with all of the stories connected to each of the places. Ryan was the best tour guide
