Day one: Hobart > Bicheno (or) Launceston > Bicheno
We make our way to the East Coast and the beautiful Bay of Fires. If the conditions are right, this is the perfect place for a swim. Tasmania’s most scenic coastal drive takes you from St Helens to Bicheno, where we visit a wildlife sanctuary to meet the iconic Tasmanian devil. Tonight, you may want to join an evening viewing of the Little Penguins (optional at your own expense and seasonal $40*).
Overnight: Bicheno
Day two: Freycinet National Park> Hobart
An early start means we are the first to the Wineglass Bay lookout, beating the crowds and the heat for that postcard photo. Relax on the secluded beach or choose the more challenging Mt Amos or Hazards Beach walk. We continue further along the scenic east coast via the seaside towns of Swansea and Orford as we make our way to Hobart.
Overnight: Hobart (Breakfast)
Day three: Port Arthur
Today we explore Tasmania’s ruthless convict past at the World Heritage Listed historic site.
We start the day at Richmond, Australia’s best-preserved colonial village, before we head south to the Tasman Peninsula and visit the Tasman National Park for some amazing views of the rugged coastline.
Arriving at Port Arthur Historic Site we discover the story of this convict settlement and the chilling realities of life as a prisoner amid the preserved gaol ruins. At the historic site we join a guided tour, take a harbour cruise and have plenty of time left to explore. On our way back to Hobart we’ll stop by the remarkable natural features of Tasman Arch, Devils Kitchen and the Blowhole.
Overnight: Hobart (Breakfast)
Day four: Bruny Island
Located at the mouth of the Derwent River, Bruny Island is the home to unique wildlife (including the white Bennett’s wallabies), dramatic scenery and delicious local produce. After a short ferry ride across the D’Entrecasteaux Channel, we head to the spectacular seascape of Cape Bruny and the Bruny Island Lighthouse. We can enjoy some coastal walking and breathtaking beaches as we explore this stunning island. We end the day with local produce tastings of cheese and oysters.
