Itinerary

The day starts with a pick-up from your Cairns city hotel or hostel for the drive of about 20 minutes north to Smithfield. Transfers run at set times through the morning and early afternoon, and your time is confirmed when you book. With a car, you can drive yourself instead and park free on site.

Skypark sits in rainforest at the foot of the ranges. A path climbs through the trees from the car park to reception, about a six-minute walk uphill, and goannas, snakes and blue Ulysses butterflies are often seen along the way. There is a licensed bar and café, with viewing decks where friends can watch.

The first jump is a standard 50 metre bungy from the tower platform, so you get used to the gear and the feeling of the fall. Before it, the crew weigh you and match one of four cord thicknesses to your weight. You climb 196 stairs to the top of the 50 metre tower, the highest lookout in Cairns, with views over the Northern Beaches towards the Great Barrier Reef. You are attached at the ankles and the waist, with a back-up connection, and the drop is towards a 5 metre deep lagoon.

If the Jump Master is happy with that first jump, you go up again for the roof jump: a run across the roof of the tower and a leap off the edge, 53 metres above the lagoon. If you are not cleared for the roof, you get a second standard jump instead.

Afterwards there is time for a drink at the bar before the transfer back to town. Photos and video can be bought on the day.

Good to know

Meeting point: Skypark Cairns, Lot 2 McGregor Road, Smithfield, about 15 km north of Cairns, or a pick-up from Cairns city hotels and hostels.
Departure time: Transfers run at set times in the morning and early afternoon; your pick-up time is confirmed when you book. For a booking inside 24 hours, check a transfer is available or drive yourself.
Duration: About 3 hours.
Minimum age: 10 years.
Fitness: You climb the tower's 196 stairs twice. Bungy jumpers weigh 45 to 150 kg.
Suits: Young adults, couples and active travellers who want more than one jump. The walk up from the car park is steep in parts; people with limited mobility can be driven up the back driveway to the entrance if the park is told ahead. The crew adapt the activities for most disabilities, given at least 2 weeks' notice.
Please note: You must make one confident standard jump before the roof jump, and the Jump Master decides; if you are not approved, you do a standard jump instead. Declare any medical condition, such as high blood pressure, a heart condition, pregnancy, epilepsy or a past dislocation; it does not automatically rule you out. The park is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. It runs in rain but stops for lightning and cyclones.

Common questions

Do I have to do the roof jump?

The roof jump comes only after a confident first jump, at the Jump Master's call. If you are not cleared for it, you make a second standard jump instead.

How high is the roof jump?

The running roof jump is from 53 metres, three metres above the tower's standard 50 metre platform.

What should I wear?

Closed-in shoes and comfortable clothes, since you are running off the roof. Bring a towel.

Are photos and video included?

Not on this option. You can buy them on the day, or choose the roof jump package with media.

What if it rains?

Skypark operates in the rain. Activities stop only for lightning or cyclonic weather.

I have a medical condition. Can I still take part?

Often, yes. Conditions such as high blood pressure, heart problems, diabetes, pregnancy, epilepsy or past dislocations must be declared first, but declaring one does not automatically stop you.

How we collect and publish reviews

Where they come from. Our reviews are gathered from independent review sites and from guests who share feedback with us directly after their trip. They come from people who have actually travelled on the tour. Some longer trips are made up of shorter tours we also sell, run back to back — where a review was written about one of those legs, the review says so.

Why some are edited. Many of our guests travel in their second or third language. Where a review is hard to read, we lightly edit spelling, grammar and punctuation, or paraphrase a sentence for clarity. We never change the rating, the meaning or the sentiment, and we never write a review on a guest's behalf.

Reading the originals. Reviews sourced from public review sites appear there in their original form, and can be read in full at their original source at any time.

I had a great time. The team got me the right jumps, and the roof jump is epic.
