Seven days on the south island and it gave me more than I'd hoped for. It's a short trip, but the route is put together well and we crammed a lot in, so I felt I'd seen the essentials. The bloke driving and guiding us was first rate.
Home from the West Coast trip, led by Grant, who was superb. The pace was judged really well and there was room to do your own thing when you wanted it. He knew the region inside out and kept feeding us little facts about New Zealand along the way, and then there was that playlist of his.
A trip lives or dies by whoever is leading it, and Dawn had every quality you'd want in one.
Our honeymoon took in this 7 day tour and it ended up the standout part of it. Ollie led us, and between the mood he set and everything he knew about the places we stopped in, he turned it into something special. Every one of our friends is going to hear about it.
As a couple we've not done anything better than this, and as a honeymoon it handed us memories we'll keep for good. I'd tell anybody to book it without a second thought.
Loved every minute. Great bunch of people, and Lulu our guide was amazing. The mix of walking and activities was pitched perfectly, and the driving days were spent staring at incredible country. Nice too that we had proper rooms, not hostel dorms.

The west coast was a joy from start to finish: wild coastline, landscapes that kept shifting, and little pockets of history dotted along the way. Good choice if you want a quick sample of it. Anne-Marie is the best guide I've ever travelled with and took the whole thing to 10/10.
NZ has been wonderful, and having a guide meant we didn't have to worry about a single thing, just turn up, enjoy it and eat at some terrific places. Every room was clean, comfortable and had what we needed. We picked up so much we hadn't known about the country's history and its plants and animals. Thanks Ann Marie, we're already thinking about the next one.
What a way to take in the West coast. I had no idea the scenery would be that good. There were loads of extra tours you could tack on, plus enough free time to wander off by yourself. Josh, who guided us, was great.
Book it, you'll have a ball. My only regret is not choosing the longer version that adds the Catlins and Stewart Island. There were 11 of us and they were a lovely bunch. Connor led us and was superb, really thoughtful about how to get the most out of each day. The leader makes or breaks these things, so you're in luck if you get him. I went in October and nowhere felt busy, which was a bonus. Yes, there's a lot of time in the van, but the scenery out the window means you barely notice, and we stopped constantly for coffee, loos, lunch and short walks. Two days in Wanaka was a treat. Fox Glacier and Franz Josef were great as well; take the helicopter flight if it's running, and do the greenstone carving. Plenty of optional extras. It isn't a strenuous trip, though you're on your feet somewhere beautiful every day. Connor booked group dinners for us, which saved everyone the planning and were good fun, and he had ideas wherever we went: the carving, an easy walk in Wanaka, the enchanted forest near our hotel in Fox Glacier, a sunset cruise at Wanaka, glow worms out behind the Kumara hotel, and a sandwich shop in Hokitika. I feel like I saw a genuine chunk of the South Island, including corners you'd need your own car to reach. Christchurch and Queenstown are easy to add on either end and you don't need a guide for those. I did part of the North Island under my own steam with a friend, and honestly the small group was far more enjoyable, because sharing it with other people is half the point. I'll travel with Intrepid again.
Breathtaking part of the world, and the route takes in most of the big-ticket sights. The places we stayed and what was included were both strong, and each day brought something new to look at. Full marks to Connor, who led us.

An incredible week. Grant, leading us, poured his knowledge and enthusiasm into it and lifted the whole thing. Every stop was beautiful and Wanaka in particular won me over. My tip: add a night or two in Queenstown at the end, it's a lovely spot.
Wonderful tour. The route was well chosen and Krieg, guiding us, was something else. We saw stunning places and I came away knowing far more about NZ's past, its culture and its landscape, partly down to the itinerary but mostly down to Krieg, who never tired of a question and put real effort into everyone having a good time. I'll book Intrepid again, and I'd love him leading it. He was phenomenal.
Six days on the South Island taught me a huge amount about the country's wild landscapes, its people, its past and how the place is put together. Krieg led us, and his grasp of all of that showed every single day. He got us to spots you'd never find by yourself. If you want to really get under the skin of the South Island, book it.
A cracking week on the stunning New Zealand West Coast. Our guide could talk knowledgeably about the history, the locals, the culture and the natural world around us, and the days were crammed with things to do. We got home worn out and thoroughly happy.

What a week on the West Coast, we packed an enormous amount in. If you've never set foot on the south island, this is the one to take. Michelle guided us and was wonderful; you could tell she really wanted everyone to come away happy, and her enthusiasm never dipped.
Stunning corner of the country. You take in everything from the pancake rocks to waterfalls tucked away off the road to the glaciers. Left to my own devices I'd have missed half of what's on this itinerary; it really does get you to the hidden bits.
Faultless trip, with great places and great activities, but Michelle was the reason it worked so well. She looked after us, knew her subject, and was simply lovely company. Recommended.
If you want the Sth Island's big natural sights and a bit of its history, book this. It went beyond what I expected, because on my own I'd never have fitted that much variety into the time. Christmas Day spent standing on a glacier, then hiking and camping the day after: extraordinary.
Well worth doing. You reach gorgeous spots off the beaten track that you'd otherwise drive straight past.
Pete led our week on the South Island and he was superb. Ten years of doing this, a head full of NZ, and enough flexibility to reroute us down scenic back roads when the road was shut. His enthusiasm rubbed off, and by the end we'd all caught his love for the country.

Travelling top to bottom down the rugged, lovely coast of Te Wai Pounamu with Intrepid was a real pleasure. Our leader knew the forests, the coast, the rivers and the stories behind the little townships we passed through. The thing I brought home was a Waipounamu pendant I made myself, taught by a skilled artisan.
First time I'd travelled with Intrepid, and it won't be the last. Thoroughly recommend them.
Anyone who loves the outdoors should get to the NZ west coast. Georgia was our crew leader and she did well by us, taking us to the best lookouts and pointing us at activities worth doing. All up, good fun.
There's very little in the day-by-day description, and I'd have liked more on what each day holds and how long things take. Plans shift, obviously, but even rough timings would help people work out whether the trip suits them, and help those who go get more out of it.
The West Coast Adventure was a holiday I won't forget, and Jef guiding it was a big part of that. He taught me so much about New Zealand and I left with real appreciation for the country and its culture. Life changing.
Everything ran smoothly. The bloke leading the group really knew the regions we passed through, kept us exactly to time, and looked after everyone. He was forever trying to help.
This one floored me. The quiet of the landscape, the layers to the culture, how welcoming people were, I was in awe the whole way through. Jef led brilliantly and deepened it all by explaining what the places we stopped at mean to Māori. Accommodation was the thing I'd worried about beforehand, and it turned out great from the first night and only got better. 10/10, couldn't rate it higher.
The intrepid New Zealand trips were fabulous. Each island is different and full of lovely places. Go with Intrepid if you want to do them justice.
Loved it. Our Leader kept us in the loop and was very helpful throughout. Top of the list for me was the HeliHike on Fox Glacier, which got perfect weather: three hours up there, poking around little caves and dropping into a crevasse. There's so much packed into New Zealand.
First trip I've done with intrepid and I'll be back. Jef, our guide, was brilliant and took us to some cracking places. Met some lovely people too.
Expect long stretches in the vehicle, though the country you drive through is worth it. Jef led us with plenty of enthusiasm and knew not just the route but the rest of NZ as well. He also shared a lot about his Maori heritage and culture, which taught us a great deal.

For a first look at New Zealand, nothing could have been easier or more enjoyable. Thiago, leading us, was a machine: knowledgeable, dependable, communicative, full of energy and clearly in love with the place. Safest hands going.
Fewer set activities on this one, more walking and scenery as you work along the west coast. It rained a lot, so pack proper waterproofs, and bring repellent for the sandflies. The glaciers were the letdown: the Fox trail is closed partway up the valley so you don't get far, and the weather grounded the helicopter at Franz Josef, so we only saw both from a long way off. Lovely bunch of travellers though, and Snowy guided us well.
The real west (wet) coast: proper people, towns, histories and stunning mountains. Weather killed our Franz Josef Hellihike. Summer led us and was fantastic, thanks!
