O-Nice is suitable for all types of travellers including couples, families, solo travellers and the young at heart. The vessel takes a maximum of 10 guests allowing plenty of space for on board activities.
You will have the opportunity to snorkel the colourful fringing reef, view the coral gardens from above on a paddle board, glide along the water in the glass bottom kayak or cruise amongst the marine life using one of the sea scooters!

Captain Dylan and deckhand Georgia took us to quiet spots the bigger boats miss, including some unusual snorkelling, Whitehaven and Betty's Cove, where my partner proposed to me. The food, the music and the cabin were all great, and the other guests were good company. We were sorry to see it end and would happily come back.

We have just come back from a two-day, two-night trip on On Ice with Dylan and Abi, who made us feel welcome and safe throughout. We did the three-day, two-night On Ice trip and it was excellent. Skipper Dylan picked three superb coral spots and we anchored overnight beside more than twenty sharks, then reached Whitehaven Beach before the other tours so we had it to ourselves for a while. There was time for the paddle boards and kayaking, and we sailed for much of the trip. Abi cooked good meals after every activity, including a sunrise breakfast, and kept the boat spotless; the mixed group we shared with was great.

There was some bad weather on the first night which caused the anchor to drag, but it was dealt with professionally and we felt safe throughout. Our two-day, two-night sail on On Ice was a great way to switch off at the end of a big year. There were plenty of calm moments, swimming at Whitehaven Beach, snorkelling with the tropical fish and lying in the sun under the sails of the catamaran. Dave was an excellent skipper who adapted the trip to the changing weather so everyone got the most out of it, and Dan cooked up a storm for us. A good crew and a good travelling group made it a wonderful family trip.

I did the two-night O'Nice trip and it was a lovely experience. We had a few snorkelling stops, paddle boarded and kayaked, and visited the Whitehaven Beach lookout; the weather was sunny with some rain and storms, which honestly made it more fun. The group was mostly families and couples and everyone made me feel welcome, and I had the single bed in the corridor with my own little ocean window, which I loved. Captain Dave let me and another keen snorkeller stay in longer and found us an extra stop, and deckhand Steph kept the energy up while cooking delicious meals and keeping everything spotless.

We had an amazing two-night cruise on O'Nice, and from stepping aboard to stepping off everything went just as planned. Unforgettable trip with endless wildlife to be seen. Everything was fantastic - the staff (Luke and Abbey) , the food , the snorkelling and the views. We went with a group of friends in our 20s/30s (3 couples) and met another couple and solo traveller who we had great fun with! With a lot of choice out there I would highly recommend this trip as a great way to see the Whitsundays for the first time, especially if you’re not looking for a party boat. Private cabins were comfortable. Also have the opportunity to sail the boat which I didn’t realise at booking and was an added bonus.

My husband and I sailed on Onice, a big boat where we had our own bed and ensuite, sharing with three other couples and a solo traveller who were all great company. Skipper Julia and her young deckhand Rhief were fantastic, went out of their way so we saw and did everything possible, and their sailing knowledge and passion made us feel safe while encouraging us to join in. The food was plentiful and delicious and there was fresh percolated coffee brewing all day, so the snacks we brought stayed in the bag. Island stops, swimming with turtles and huge fish, exploring the reef, sting rays, dolphins, setting sail, sunrises and sunsets: one of my most memorable holidays.

Luke and Mitch were easy going and thoroughly competent, which put everyone at ease, and their local knowledge got us two sheltered anchorages with perfect snorkelling right there. He anchored us in calm spots for the sunsets, let us paddle board into remote coves and showed us ancient First Nations sites. Ten of us sailed on the catamaran On Ice on our first visit to Australia. The captain, Dave, told us to call him Crispy, and he was down to earth and very funny, full of stories, with nothing too much trouble as he made sure we saw as much as possible. We are both in our sixties and it was a fine way to meet people of all ages, our group being American, German, Swiss and Australian.

We hesitated over spending that much on two nights, but it turned out to be the best thing we did in Australia, with far more coral, fish and turtles than we expected. The cabins get hot in summer with no air conditioning, but opening all the hatches sorted that out.

Skipper Dave and Julia put everyone at ease as soon as we came aboard and made sure the group mixed; Dave took us to the best snorkelling spots and was brilliant with my fifteen-year-old son, showing him how the boat worked. Julia's cooking was spectacular and she could not have done more as a host. The afternoon on Whitehaven Beach and a two-kilometre snorkel off Cockatoo Point were our highlights.

We had a fantastic time on On Ice with skipper Dave and Julia. Conditions were tough with plenty of rain and wind, but Dave's experience and easy manner kept everyone feeling safe, and his knowledge of the area meant we still saw some fantastic spots over the two days, including being taken to see George and Spike. Julia looked after us from the moment we woke until we went to our rooms, and the quality of the food was exceptional given how small and cramped the galley is, with salmon and sweet potato mash on the first night that felt like home. Both were good hosts and usually in the middle of the fun on board.

My wife, our twin fourteen-year-olds and I boarded the catamaran On Ice at Airlie Beach at four in the afternoon and sailed across to Hook Passage for the night. The next morning we made Tongue Bay early enough to beat the day trippers, walked over to Whitehaven Beach, which is worth every step, then sailed on to a coral reef and a bay full of large fish for snorkelling. After a night moored in Stonehaven Bay we snorkelled once more and paddle boarded to a waterfall walk before the two-hour sail home. Captain Dave and deckhand Julia were enthusiastic, entertaining and knowledgeable and looked after us well; my only criticism is that the boat is showing wear and could do with some maintenance, though it barely affected the trip.

Waking up on the boat with nothing to hear but birds and water was one of the most peaceful things I have done. If you want the best cruise in the Whitsundays, take On Ice with Crispy Dave and Julia. They made everyone feel like family whatever their age, background or nationality, and Dave took us to his favourite spots, which we had to ourselves instead of sharing with a crowd of boats, with three snorkelling stops, half a day at Whitehaven Beach and the walk up to the lookout. He is clearly an experienced captain, holding us solid as a rock in one bay when the wind picked up, and he has a good sense of humour. Julia knows boats too, is the best cook you could ask for, and when I was anxious about snorkelling she took me by the hand and showed me everything there was to see.

We have just come back from a trip on On Ice and it still feels like a dream. Our skipper Crispy Dave and host Julia were superb, and the trip was full of fantastic snorkelling, warm hospitality and good conversation on a boat that beat our expectations. Dave's local knowledge and the smaller boat let us into his favourite lower-use zones, where the coral was better than anything we had seen in Mexico, Europe or other parts of the Great Barrier Reef, and despite poor weather he always found a good anchorage, so we slept well and woke up to practise the knots he had taught us. Julia was the best host I have had, cooking excellent food in generous portions and insisting we simply enjoy ourselves on deck.

Two days and two nights around the Whitsundays on On Ice with skipper Dave and deckhand Julia, and we both agree it was the high point of our trip up the east coast. There was plenty of good snorkelling, and both of them were patient with Harriet, who had never done it before, and our en-suite double room was compact but comfortable. We were very well fed, with a tray of snacks and fresh tea and coffee after every swim or paddle board, and better meals than we had eaten in restaurants. Dave is a proper skipper, full of facts and good banter, and we saw dolphins, tuna, masses of fish, turtles, reef sharks and stingrays; the only downside was a shower of rain at Whitehaven Beach.

Our first overnight sail, two nights on On Ice. We snorkelled at three excellent sites, spent time at Whitehaven Beach and moored in secluded coves overnight. Dave our skipper is a legend who took us to the best snorkelling and gave us plenty of time over the coral, with heaps of fish and turtles, and he looked after everyone. Julia the deckhand is an amazing cook, serving baked salmon of restaurant quality, and between them they made sure everyone was included.

The snorkelling was excellent, with lots of turtles, beautiful coral, plenty of fish and a little reef shark, and the sail home was good too. Thanks to Lockie's timing we were first onto Whitehaven Beach and up at Hill Inlet in the mornings and had the views to ourselves. The paddle boards and the canoe with the transparent base were a bonus.

We had a fantastic four days and three nights sailing the Whitsundays on the catamaran On Ice with family and friends. Brent and Desiree made the trip, sailing into strong headwinds, finding safe harbours and snorkel sites and taking us on some stunning island hikes. We paddle boarded over still water and fringing reef and ate like royalty. Highlights included waking up to an empty Whitehaven Beach, spotting baby dugongs early in the morning, coming face to face with a giant Maori wrasse and the best beef stroganoff ever to come out of a galley, thanks to Des.

Mark and Mitch were welcoming and knowledgeable, the food was outstanding and Mitch handled my vegan diet with ease. The planning was excellent, and they even took the tides into account for the Hill Inlet lookout over Whitehaven Beach so we could see the moving sands. I could not fault any of it.

There were ten of us and plenty of room, and the itinerary was perfect, with a beautiful sunset on the first night and being first onto Whitehaven Beach. Dave is very knowledgeable about ocean life and a lot else, the snorkelling turned up heaps of turtles and interesting fish, and we had fun paddle boarding and playing beach volleyball; I slept out on the deck trampoline under the stars one night. Andy was a great host and the food was delicious and plentiful, though solo travellers should know they sleep in the hallway with no privacy.

The trip was well organised, with skipper Brent and his wife Sharon Winter arranging everything for us; they came across as thoroughly competent and were courteous to their guests throughout. We felt in good hands from the first minute, and the food, the excursions and the clean, comfortable conditions on board were all excellent.

We came back from two nights aboard and found the boat comfortable, clean and roomy. Scottie our skipper was professional and charming and went out of his way for us, and Chelsea, who cooked and worked the deck, was terrific; she surprised the group with a huge cheese board on the white sand of Whitehaven Beach. The snorkelling spots were brilliant, the walk up to the lookout was easy, and we watched whales breaching close to the boat.

My boyfriend and I booked a two-night trip on On Ice for my birthday and had Dave and Julia as crew. Dave knew all the best spots and the right times to be at them and was good company, while Julia was a sweetheart who served us amazing food and could not have been more hospitable. We packed a lot in, with snorkelling, swimming with fish and turtles, whales and dolphins, paddle boarding, kayaking and a trip to Whitehaven Beach and the Hill Inlet lookout, so it was good value. The rooms and showers are basic but that is all you need on a boat, and on the last day the two of them marked my birthday with an English muffin, Nutella and a candle.

We had a great trip on On Ice with Lockie, Mitch and Rommie, who knew their stuff and timed our stops so we usually missed the queues at the best spots. The boat never felt squashed even with nine guests and three crew, and the food was good with plenty of it. Well worth doing.

We took the whole boat on On Ice for three nights with a group of friends and it was one of the best long weekends I have had. Captain Lochie kept safety front and centre while happily mapping out a route around the islands that suited us, and hostess Julia always had good food ready and was easy company. The boat and the cabins were clean and stayed that way, and we packed in plenty of snorkelling, swimming, paddle boarding and beach time. We are still talking about organising it again.

We did two nights and three days on On Ice, with Dave skippering, entertaining and full of local knowledge, and Young Andy helping on deck. The yacht was clean and comfortable with plenty of room to relax and watch the scenery. We saw humpback whales, sea turtles and some lovely coral, and got to Whitehaven Beach as well. Paddle boards, kayaks and snorkel gear are all provided, so you only need to bring the beer, the wine and a sense of humour.

We sailed on On Ice with my family, with captain Lachie and Julia as crew, and could not have wished for better. Lachie took us to the most memorable places and told us a great deal along the way, and we saw whales and a lovely sunset on the first evening, while Julia produced excellent food and drinks, including plenty of good gluten-free options. We reached Whitehaven Beach early, a couple of hours ahead of the big boats, and had time for paddleboarding and kayaking before breakfast and a look at the twisting sands at exactly the right moment. Later we swam with turtles, and on the way back we properly sailed, with my little brother even allowed to take the wheel.

We booked On Ice for two nights, taking the private cabin with ensuite, and with ten guests and two crew it worked out good value for the two of us. All meals were included and freshly prepared by our host Desiree, dietary requirements were catered for, and paddle boards, a kayak, stinger suits and snorkelling gear were there for everyone; bring a refillable bottle and your own beer, wine or gin, as it is BYO. Lachie planned each day around the weather and tides: Whitehaven to ourselves in the morning, rays seen from the paddle board, then the shifting sands and lemon sharks, then three snorkelling spots around Hook Island where we met George the wrasse. We had sunset drinks on a sandbank that disappears through the day, swam with a turtle the following morning, and climbed and swam at a waterfall in Narra Inlet when the weather played up.

We sailed On Ice with four kids aged 12 to 14 and it was excellent. Dave the skipper and Mitch on crew knew the area, looked after us and kept us very well fed; we swam with sea turtles, paddled among stingrays and small harmless sharks and snorkelled with giant napoleon fish. With ten guests at most the boat felt surprisingly spacious, there is shaded seating and private bathrooms with some of the rooms, and stinger suits, snorkelling gear, paddle boards and a kayak are all provided, so you need little more than swimmers, a towel, suncream and a warm top for the evening. Being the first people on Whitehaven Beach in the morning was worth the early start, and although we felt seasick the first evening the crew's advice sorted us out quickly.

My partner and I did the two day, two night cruise on On Ice and it was spectacular. Our skipper Lauchy and his first hand Mitch knew the Whitsundays inside out and used that to adjust the trip to the conditions and to us. We snorkelled twice, paddle boarded twice, saw the swirling sands and two beaches including Whitehaven, and our captain timed every arrival so the big tourist boats were not there. The boat was clean and spacious and the food was delicious, with no chance of going hungry.

Seven of us took On Ice as a private charter with my fiance's family, with Lochlan captaining and Mitchell as first mate. The weather was finicky, with short bursts of heavy rain and wind, but they still got us to Whitehaven and the lookout, and the rain meant we also adventured up a beautiful waterfall. We used the paddle boards and glass bottom kayak whenever we were moored, and our menu was adapted for dietary needs and cooked beautifully by Mitchell in a tiny galley. The rooms and bathrooms are small, as you would expect on a catamaran, but there were hot showers and we barely spent any time below.

My husband and I spent two nights on On Ice while on honeymoon in Australia, after a colleague said a Whitsunday Islands boat trip was the best part of her holiday. We snorkelled over coral full of colourful fish, visited Whitehaven, one of the best beaches I have been on, and paddle boarded with turtles and sting rays. Dave and Desi were hard-working, excellent hosts who did not let a bit of rain spoil anything; it is all about timing and they know their stuff. The other guests were a lovely bunch, and we later bumped into a couple from the boat in a shop in Sydney and had a beer with them.

As a backpacker I did a fair amount of research and skipped the party boats, paying a little more for two nights on a beautiful catamaran called On Ice with Lockie and Mitchell, two down to earth, friendly Aussie blokes. Stunning beaches, crystal blue water, paddle boarding, snorkelling over coral with fish and turtles, and we even saw dolphins. After five weeks in Australia and five months travelling in Asia it has been the highlight, and I would do it all over again.

We have just been on On Ice with Dave and Bridgette and had the best time; it was well run and organised. Bridgette's meals were amazing and Dave took us to some great snorkelling spots, where we swam with turtles and giant gropers. The little cabins were cool and the bathrooms small but fine for a couple of days, and the boat was in excellent condition, though it could do with more fans inside. The one negative was the luggage store, a travel agent not linked to the company, where the door was left open and backpackers came and went unsupervised, so do not leave valuables behind.

Dave was a good laugh and very knowledgeable, making sure we were over at Whitehaven ahead of the crowds. Bridgette did a great job and the food was excellent, and we visited some lovely spots for snorkelling and paddleboarding.

We had done a fair bit of research looking for a Whitsundays sailing trip with good accommodation, good food and memorable experiences, and On Ice delivered all of it. Dave and Victor were excellent hosts; I believe it was Victor's first trip on the vessel, yet the food was outstanding, lovely gnocchi and fish, chicken wraps and a great breakfast each day. Dave is obviously a veteran of the coral sea, and his knowledge of the marine wildlife, the tides and where to go and when was spot on. The highlights were swimming with sea turtles, snorkelling through soft coral among some enormous fish and having Whitehaven Beach almost to ourselves, and the cabins were clean and surprisingly spacious.

We had a fabulous time on the On Ice tour with Dave skippering, and a good mix of people aboard, all up for a laugh but happy to relax. The catamaran was nice and clean, the food was faultless and it is bring your own drinks; I would go for the private cabin if you like your own space and bathroom. The snorkelling was great, we met Gangster T the turtle and the wrasse, the places we visited were like nothing I had seen before, and we played cards into the night with an awesome crew.

We did a two night trip with Dave and Brigette and it was better than expected, and my expectations are always high. Dave knows the area and the waters and got us to beaches and snorkelling spots without the crowds, and he has a personal connection with George the Napoleon fish and Grandmaster T the turtle; I have snorkelled in many parts of the world and this stands out. Brigette went over and above to make everyone comfortable and the food was excellent. The boat is comfortable and well maintained and never felt cramped with ten guests, and the booking staff were very helpful; my only regret was leaving my Go Pro behind.

I took my parents on the On Ice trip as they were visiting Australia for the first time, and we all had a fantastic time. We were lucky enough to see whales, dolphins and a turtle just metres from the vessel, the sunsets went all the way round and the atmosphere on board was relaxed; the food was so good that the snacks we had packed were never touched. One heads up: I had understood I would get a bed in a cabin, but I ended up on a bed in the corridor facing the door of a toilet shared by six, so there was no privacy and very little sleep.

We shared this Whitsundays trip with three girls from Melbourne and four from Hamburg and it was just a great trip. Dave, our skipper, was a fount of knowledge on the area and much else besides, and Laura, his number one, was always cheerful and ready to help, with very welcome refreshments after activities and tasty lunches and dinners. The weather was glorious, being the equivalent of high summer to us coming from the UK, and the cyclone damage is being repaired rapidly by both nature and people. If you want to snorkel the reefs, find great beaches for lazy days and swimming, follow feeding dolphins and understand how the original inhabitants used and preserved this area, Dave and Laura on On Ice are the ones to do it with.

Three of us from Melbourne came up for a milestone birthday, choosing the Whitsundays after the cyclone once we saw how quickly the islands were regenerating, and On Ice let us see and do the lot. Dave was an incredible skipper for our first visit, and his first mate Laura was warm, welcoming and approachable, with food that was plentiful, timely and healthy; we never had to lift a finger. Dave shared a great deal about the islands, the flora and fauna, the history and the culture of the local people, and he has a real talent for tracking animals, from dolphins and dugongs to turtles. In three days he fitted in snorkelling, paddle boarding and visits to Whitehaven, a waterfall and an ancient Aboriginal fish trap, and we would ask for Dave and Laura again.

My girlfriend and I did a two night cruise on On Ice around the Whitsundays. Despite Cyclone Debbie having passed through relatively recently, the trip was fantastic: the boat is spacious and well equipped, the other guests were friendly and the crew could not have been more helpful. We paddle boarded, kayaked, ventured onto several islands and, best of all, snorkelled around some great coral.

The boat is a good size for ten guests, with clean rooms and decent bathrooms for being on the water. We had perfect weather for paddle boarding, kayaking, snorkelling and star gazing, and saw turtles, sharks, dolphins, stingrays and hundreds of fish. Both of them made us feel safe in the water and on board, and I would do it again.

We had a great time aboard On Ice with Dave and Julia and a good group of fellow sailors. Julia's food was excellent and she came snorkelling alongside me when I was nervous, while Dave knew everything there was to know about the wildlife. My one gripe was that I had rung ahead and been told to bring only alcohol, then found on board that all soft drinks and water had to be paid for, which several of us thought should have been said beforehand. You can drink the tap water, but it is worth stocking up on cheap bottled water before you go.

The food was excellent, including good gluten-free options for our coeliac daughter, and the boat is a genuine sailing catamaran with plenty of room to sunbathe. We swam with turtles and reef fish, paddle boarded, kayaked, saw lots of coral and stopped at deserted bays and beaches. The other guests were lovely, and it would suit a nervous first-timer.

The weather was patchy but fine when it mattered and the time flew. The highlight was the turtle Dave promised would turn up in one bay, which duly swam right up to the boat.

My parents and I spent three days on the On Ice catamaran and the route was beautifully judged. We snorkelled over coral full of fish that came right up close, saw stingrays and small lemon sharks, and swam with turtles on the last day, as well as visiting Whitehaven Beach and the lookout with plenty of time on the sand. There was stand-up paddling and a glass-bottomed kayak too, and Julia cooked so well I felt I was eating constantly, which suits me. Skipper Dave had endless knowledge of the reef and marine life, a good sense of humour and plenty of stories, and one day he took us to an ancient aboriginal fishing site and explained exactly how it worked.

Dave the skipper knew the area well and clearly wanted us to make the most of the trip. Julia the deckhand was excellent, with a lovely manner and just the right balance between joining in, telling us about the boat and the area, and leaving us to ourselves; her cooking was some of the best we ate anywhere on our travels. With only nine of us it was a lovely group, and the snorkelling over coral with fish and turtles was my highlight, although a couple of the stops were busy with other tours.

Dave and Jam were helpful and knowledgeable, and especially good with the members of our group in their seventies who were less confident on their feet and in the water. The weather held and the snorkelling was great, with lots of fish, coral and turtles. We recommend the company to friends and visitors and they always enjoy it too.

Having the boat, the food, the kayak and the paddle boards all included makes it a complete holiday, and the crew knew the area well and added environmental and historical background along the way. The itinerary took in good snorkelling, turtles and a hike, and with only ten guests it beats sharing a boat with thirty-odd people.

Skipper Dave and Sean looked after us extremely well in every way. The boat was gorgeous and very comfortable. We got more than we had hoped for, with turtles, dolphins and a close look at a mother whale feeding her calf. It is a trip our family will treasure.

We took On Ice on a four-night private charter and it was easy from the first contact with Isabelle, with our preferred snacks and drinks stocked and waiting for us. Dave and Sean were a great crew: Dave shared his knowledge of the area and its culture, and Sean cooked well and helped with anything we asked. We snorkelled with turtles, huge wrasse and all sorts of colourful sea life, some of the best we have done, and Dave got us onto Whitehaven Beach before anyone else so our photos had nobody else in them. We were two families with five children aged ten to sixteen, everyone was catered for, and we all enjoyed the paddle boards, the kayak, jumping off the boat and helping with the sails.

This was our first time on a live-aboard catamaran and we loved it, sleeping well and having far more fun than we expected. Julia skippered and cooked, turning out delicious meals, snacks and treats, and kept an eye on us on the walk up to Hill Inlet. We had a bout of rain over the three days but the sun came out when we needed it, the snorkelling was tremendous, and the kayaking and paddle boarding with turtles were the best of it. The group was good company and we sat up late playing cards.

Three days on the On Ice was excellent. The boat is really nice and with only ten guests the atmosphere stayed relaxed, and the food was great. The places we stopped were outstanding for snorkelling and stand-up paddling. Our skipper knew the area well: rather than heading for Whitehaven with all the other boats, we had lunch first, so by the time we reached the lookout and the beach the crowds had gone and the conditions were perfect.

I did a two-day, two-night trip on On Ice as a solo female traveller in my early twenties, with Cat skippering alongside Julia. The first evening was appetisers and conversation outside followed by a lovely dinner and an early night; after that came Whitehaven Beach, snorkelling and paddle boarding. Julia's food was always excellent and she took real trouble over my vegetarian, dairy-free diet, and both of them were cheerful and clearly love the job. I slept in the galley, which was surprisingly comfortable with the gentle rocking, took a motion sickness tablet as a precaution and never felt ill.

Pete and Helen were the ideal crew on On Ice. Pete worked the route around windy, showery weather so we still got Whitehaven Beach, snorkelling and turtles, and we did real sailing rather than just motoring. Helen kept us fed with good meals and breakfasts, and waking on the boat with a coffee looking out at a quiet island was hard to beat. It suits a couple or a family, with enough space to join in or find a corner to yourself.

Our family of four, including two teenagers, sailed on the catamaran On Ice and it was easily the highlight of a three-week trip round New Zealand and Australia. Captain Cat and her deckhand Julia were both lovely and did an excellent job, and the food and facilities were good. Whitehaven Beach was phenomenal, as was the snorkelling, with all the gear provided including an underwater scooter, and the paddle boarding. We saw plenty of sea turtles and whales breaching nearby, and had good weather and calm seas the whole time.

It is relatively expensive, but I thought it was worth the money. On Ice is big enough for ten guests and the schedule was a good mix of Whitehaven Beach, snorkelling and some actual sailing. The food was very good, if occasionally a little short in quantity, probably because we all ate so much of it. One thing to say: if you want the full picture you still need to get out to the outer reef as well.

I wanted my son to see the reef, and we spent two fantastic days on On Ice visiting secluded beaches with plenty of snorkelling and paddle boarding. Skipper Paul and Julia looked after us throughout, and Julia's cooking was the best and healthiest food we had eaten since arriving. The boat is exceptionally clean and comfortable, and we were sorry to leave the crew and the people we met on board. One suggestion for the company: send the joining instructions straight after booking, as checking in late morning for a briefing that was mostly paperwork and then waiting until late afternoon to board wasted much of a day.

I went with two friends and we had a wonderful time. The Whitsundays are beautiful and the activities were really enjoyable, with paddle boarding, snorkelling and Whitehaven Beach, and the food was good, especially the fresh salads. Connor was friendly, cheerful and helpful throughout, and worked hard to make the trip enjoyable. The only shame was that there was no wind, so we never got the sails up; it would have been nice to try, however slow it might have been.

We chartered On Ice for five nights with an adult family group in their fifties and seventies, some of them travelling from South Africa and England. The extra days let us take things slowly and linger at the best stops, and Paul knows the Whitsundays well enough to keep us away from the crowds and time the Whitehaven walk to the tide. The keen divers among us said the snorkelling was so good they did not need to dive, and we used the paddle boards, the see-through kayak and the sea scooter. Lisa cooked brilliantly in a very basic galley, the cabins were a reasonable size and some of us slept out on the cargo net; the boat is showing its age and could do with a refurbishment, but we would recommend it in a heartbeat.

Just back from two nights on the On Ice catamaran and it was superb. Pete and Lisa were welcoming hosts; it was Lisa's first trip with the company and she cooked some really delicious meals and was interesting to talk to, while Pete was good fun, kept us busy with activities and information, and played some fine guitar in the evenings. The catamaran was very comfortable, with private rooms and a tiny but efficient shower and toilet, and the water activities and the trip to Whitehaven were wonderful.

Lisa and Paul could not have been better. Paul is a very knowledgeable sailor who took us to some amazing snorkelling spots, made sure we were first onto Whitehaven that morning, and fed large groupers off the tender on the way out. Lisa was a pleasant and extremely competent first mate whose sailing skills impressed me, and she cooked delicious meals with tea and coffee whenever we wanted. The catamaran is beautiful, our room was comfortable, and ten of us made a good number, sociable but with room to yourself when you wanted it.

With only ten guests it felt personal, and Lisan's meals and in-between snacks were delicious.

We came over from the US and saw a lot of Australia, and the On Ice, which takes about ten people including the two crew, exceeded everyone's expectations from start to finish. The rooms were large, there were showers, and the big cargo net across the bow was my favourite spot; we slept out there both nights under the stars. We snorkelled, paddle boarded and visited the best of the local islands, and the food was far better than the boxed-lunch fare we had braced for, with homemade gnocchi, fresh salads, chicken grilled on board and a lunch of freshly caught Spanish mackerel. The captain knew the islands and the best snorkelling; expect to wear a stinger suit, and we saw fish, giant turtles, dolphins and more.

We booked two nights on the On Ice with Peter and Mitch and it was perfect from beginning to end. Peter is passionate about the job and worked to please everyone even when the weather was poor on the first day, while Mitch loved his work, was always looking after us and cooked delicious food. The boat looks brand new and our cabin had plenty of windows, which was lovely at night. Peter timed Whitehaven Beach so we avoided the crowd and had it to ourselves, the snorkelling stops were full of colourful fish, and we tried the stand-up paddle and the sea scooter, though the clear kayak was leaking.

Seven of us chartered On Ice privately for five nights. Captain Annie and Amy made it a relaxing, fun family holiday, and between snorkelling, paddle boarding, sailing and hiking nobody got bored, with spectacular scenery throughout. The one thing I would improve is the arrangements for charter guests to store bags in Airlie Beach, as flight times do not line up with departure and arrival.

My girlfriend and I did the two-night trip on On Ice with a group of eight others, hosted by Matt and Mark. The food was the real surprise, given how small the galley is, and Mark was a good skipper who shared plenty of knowledge about the Whitsundays. Our en suite cabin was comfortable and the indoor and outdoor lounges were good for a beer, a book or a game of cards. We reached Whitehaven Beach early on the first day, ahead of the day trippers, and had two hours there with the stingrays; falling asleep on the catamaran trampoline under all those stars was another highlight.

Like any live aboard the cabins are cramped, but the sheets were crisp and the towels fluffy.

I picked On Ice on the strength of the reviews and they were right - locals in town told me I had chosen well. Amy and Dan planned the route around the tides and weather, took us to the best spots, and waited until the crowds had left Whitehaven so we had it to ourselves for three hours. The food is freshly prepared and very tasty, and there is plenty of it even for a fussy eater like me, with time for activities in between. It is a small company taking small groups, so the trip feels personal and the cabins were fine; it is not a party boat, so if that is what you want, take one of the cheaper backpacker cruises.

My girlfriend and I have just come off the two-day, two-night On Ice trip and it is one of the best things either of us has done; I had booked it as a birthday surprise and the crew hid a cake and brought it out after dinner on the first night. Skipper Amy was professional and good fun, and Shaun is clearly an experienced sailor with no end of stories and useful information; the food was restaurant standard. We saw Whitehaven and the Hill Inlet lookout, did some good snorkelling, went stand up paddle boarding over sharks, fish and rays, and could float about in a clear kayak or simply do nothing - there was never any pressure to join in. As a travel agent I would recommend it to anyone who wants the Whitsundays in a relaxed way, well away from the busy backpacker boats.

My partner and I sailed on On Ice and it is one of the best things I have done - the catamaran has plenty of room to sunbathe or sit in the shade, the food was lovely and we never went hungry. We had a good stretch at Whitehaven Beach to take it in at our own pace, and the snorkelling and paddle boarding were superb; we were worn out every night. It is not a party boat and there is no pressure to join in, so we took a few bottles of wine aboard, and lying at anchor under the stars with a glass of wine and Dan playing guitar was hard to beat. I have just got back from three days sailing around the Whitsundays on On Ice. It costs a bit more than other options but it is worth it - the boat takes only twelve including the two crew, so it feels personal, while some boats of a similar size we passed had more than twenty aboard. Skipper Cat was informative and could not have been more helpful, and Fraser, the deckhand, could turn his hand to anything. I expected basic food given the size of the galley but it was all delicious and plentiful, and lying on deck stargazing at night was one of the best bits.

There were ten passengers and two crew, with private cabins, four dorm beds and four bathrooms, so there is far more room than on the smaller boats that carry twice the people. Skipper Cat and Fraser, the chef and deckhand, were both excellent, and the meals were healthy, generous and very good. We snorkelled, paddle boarded, kayaked, sunbathed and stargazed, and saw turtles, lemon sharks, stingrays, coral, fish and beautiful sunsets.

Six friends and I spent four days and three nights on On Ice and it was magnificent throughout. Kat and Max were knowledgeable and obliging and looked after us properly. We had a day at Whitehaven, which is outstandingly beautiful, and spent the rest of the time snorkelling, paddle boarding, canoeing and sunbaking around the islands, seeing lovely fish and coral, plenty of turtles and even some dolphins - Kat and Max also laid on a sunset picnic on a beach we had entirely to ourselves. The boat is spacious and comfortable and stayed steady at night, so the friend who worried about seasickness had no trouble, and Max's cooking was far better than the sample menu had suggested.

We picked the On Ice catamaran because it is a small operation rather than a party boat, and it suited us as a couple. Lying on deck under the southern stars, reaching Whitehaven Beach ahead of the other groups and the good snorkelling sites were the standouts, and the food was lovely; Sean in particular was knowledgeable, entertaining and a fine cook. The snorkelling masks were our one real disappointment, as they kept fogging up and the response we got when we raised it felt dismissive. Bring long socks and a windbreaker, because the no-shoes deck gets chilly after dark.

I did a three-day, two-night tour on On Ice, which is a comfortable ship. The crew - Cat, Sean and Emily - looked after us very well and could answer everything we asked about the animals, the Whitsundays and the reef. We snorkelled twice, went paddleboarding and kayaking and made a few stops on the islands, seeing masses of fish, turtles and sea eagles.

We booked On Ice for a two day, two night trip because we wanted a small group, which is a bit of a gamble, but everyone on board turned out to be good company. The catamaran was stable, luxurious and had a big foredeck. Even when the weather turned dodgy the crew kept finding things for us to see and do, so thanks to Izzy for a great trip.

The boat was clean and spacious for a sailing catamaran, though the cabin for three was cosy, and the food was varied and good with plenty of it. Cat matched the activities to the weather and we always seemed to arrive when nobody else was there - we snorkelled, used the sea scooter, which our daughter loved, walked over the viewpoint to Whitehaven, went paddle boarding and saw turtles, sailed, and watched the sunset, the Milky Way and some dolphins. Cat is a superb skipper: knowledgeable, safety conscious and good company.

We chartered On Ice privately so we could bring our two young children, with Cat at the helm and Rihanna doing the catering, and they both worked hard to make it a good trip. There was almost no wind, so we motored more than we sailed, but nobody was seasick. Cat timed our arrivals so well that we had several of the sightseeing spots entirely to ourselves. The lookout over Hill Inlet, the time on Whitehaven Beach and snorkelling at Hayman Island were our highlights.

Bring your own alcohol and something warm, and take good care of yourself; I would strongly recommend it.

I took my dad and sister on the On Ice, and after several years of travelling around Australia it still stands out. We snorkelled three times, paddle boarded, swam with turtles, had a lot of fun on an underwater scooter, spent time at Whitehaven Beach and even had a barbecue. Our skipper Luke is an experienced former racer who kept us feeling safe without being precious about his boat, and Sean was interesting company as well as keeping us well fed. If you want to be sailed around the Whitsundays without organising a thing yourself, this is the one.

We did two days and two nights on On Ice with Dave skippering and Alessio standing in as cook and first mate. A tropical storm was looming so we were anxious, but Dave found the sun more often than not and steered us to the best spots, including a snorkelling site we reached first. He even coaxed my slightly fish-phobic wife into the water and she had the time of her life. Between the bare-hand fishing, the paddle boarding, the good food and the conversation with our knowledgeable captain, it was a highlight of our six weeks away.

With only ten of us on board we got to know everyone, and we snorkelled over gorgeous coral, paddle boarded, swam and simply relaxed, with a stop at Whitehaven Beach and its beautiful soft sand. Everyone in the group was friendly and it was fun to sit on deck with a drink and play games together. The boat is well kept, the cabins are comfortable and cosy, and Marisa cooks wonderfully; we did not want to get off.

We booked this as a couples trip covering an engagement, a birthday and a honeymoon all at once, and the set-up could not have suited us better. The boat is modern and spacious, with comfortable cabins, beds and ensuites. Our skipper Dave knew the islands, reefs and wildlife inside out and was good fun to be around, and Marissa was fun too and produced endless good meals and snacks. The two of them made the trip, and we were shown all the best spots at the right times.

We had a private charter of nine people on the On Ice and could not have had a better experience. Dave and Marissa were welcoming and helpful, and took extra time over anyone who was apprehensive about the water or trying something new, so we all felt safe and relaxed. The food was tasty and the portions huge; we had worried about being underfed and it was the opposite. A brilliant trip, made better still by the hosts.

We boarded the On Ice late one afternoon with nine guests, met the crew, David and Marissa, a husband and wife team, and sailed out for a couple of nights. Marissa cooked a superb dinner and ran games in the evening that had everyone laughing, and the weather stayed perfect for being on the water. We snorkelled among colourful fish and I used the sea scooter, an underwater propulsion unit that tows you along, to see more of the reef and get some good footage; David also took us ashore on Whitsunday Island for two lookouts and a beach where stingrays basked in the shallows. There was towing on an inflatable behind the tender, paddle boarding, a clear kayak, and David flying his quadcopter from the deck to film the sunset, and I would do it all again.

We sailed with Dave and Marissa on the catamaran On Ice. I have been to the Whitsundays a number of times, and despite the poor weather they were brilliant hosts who made everyone feel welcome from the start, with plentiful fresh food and good catering for special requirements. Our private double cabin with ensuite was as expected, though air conditioning would have been nice, and David was careful about safety and clearly wanted us to enjoy ourselves; he even applied Vaseline to my boyfriend's moustache to seal his mask. The snorkelling was still a highlight in the overcast conditions, we used the boat's Sea-Doo and got expert tuition on stand-up paddle boarding, and I would take some cash, as we were caught out with none for the drinks and chocolate on sale.

We booked a double berth with en suite well before our trip to Australia. The boat was immaculate, the staff were friendly and the food was lovely. We visited Whitehaven Beach and did paddle boarding and snorkelling, and the whole trip was very relaxing.

A great catamaran trip. Marissa does her best to keep everyone fed, with good food for a boat, and the boat clean, while Dave the skipper keeps you safe and gets you involved in the activities. We snorkelled a few times, paddle boarded, visited Whitehaven Beach, had drinks on a sandbar and stargazed and swapped stories at night. The little cabin washrooms are a drag, but that is a tiny compromise for a trip like this.

The boat was just what we were after, small, with up to eleven like-minded adults rather than a party crowd; ours was four couples plus crew. I spent three days and two nights on On Ice as part of a week off, and it was fun, relaxing and full of good food and good people. Isabel, our skipper, was a delight; she made us feel safe and confident, and we made the most of the sun and calm water with snorkelling, scurfing, paddle boarding, sightseeing and swimming. Ben prepared the food and it was extremely good, though perhaps a little less chicken would have gone down well. The boat was very comfortable and the ten passengers all got on well.

From the first email through to the end of the trip, everything went well with Luke and his crewman Sean. Over our two nights we swam, paddle boarded and snorkelled three times with the small company, and there was no fuss about formalities and plenty of freedom. The group got on so well that we spent one evening playing cards, laughing and hollering, and there were peaceful moments and good conversation as well, with some teaching and a chance to help sail. Plenty of good food, home safe and sound, and beautiful sailing in the Whitsundays.

Two families of us chartered On Ice for a three day, two night trip around the Whitsundays. From the moment we met Tristram we felt we were in the hands of an expert; he was meticulous about safety on the boat and while we were snorkelling, friendly and professional, but happy to keep his distance and let us enjoy ourselves, and Annette was equally friendly and helpful. The boat is beautiful, with plenty of room inside and out for the nine of us and separate cabins for adults and children, and the food was plentiful, fresh and tasty, with lots of fruit and salads. The weather let us down, so we never got to use the glass kayak, but we still fitted in plenty of snorkelling, some stand-up paddle boarding and a visit to Whitehaven Beach and Hill Inlet.

My partner and I did the two day, two night trip aboard On Ice with skipper Jesse and Louisa, and we did not stop smiling. Jesse briefed everything properly and gave extra help where it was needed, so nobody felt embarrassed about being nervous, and even stand-up paddle boarding at sea felt easy with his tuition; Louisa cooked constantly and it was always delicious. He got us to Whitehaven Beach first thing with the place to ourselves, and picked quiet snorkelling spots to suit the conditions, where we saw some amazing marine life. Two large manta rays met us back at the boat and Jesse sent out the paddle boards, and paddling alongside them is one of my most memorable experiences.

My husband, my mother-in-law and I booked a sailing trip on the On Ice and would happily do it again. The boat takes only ten passengers and we had lovely people on board. Jessie the skipper shared what he knew about sailing and the Whitsundays and took us to the best spots before the big tourist boats arrived, including Whitehaven Beach very early with the whole place to ourselves. We snorkelled and stand-up paddle boarded, the atmosphere on board was relaxed and comfortable, and Anette prepared great food three times a day.

We have just come in from two days aboard On Ice, a 45-foot catamaran, and loved the boat, the itinerary and the caring staff. There was a mix-up with our flight and we were afraid we would miss the boat, but the staff looked after our luggage while we sailed and met us on our return. Tane, the captain, and Louisa, the first mate, made a great team, kept us well fed and found us good snorkelling sites and beautiful views, and the ten guests on board all had plenty of room. Take a beach towel, your own drinks, two swimsuits and a waterproof camera, and pack light; even if you have never sailed or snorkelled, you will enjoy it.

Looking back, what we paid for a private ensuite room on the two-night trip was not expensive at all for the sightseeing, activities and food you get. It is a boat for an older crowd rather than backpackers, as the youngest on board were in their late twenties, but that did not stop anyone having a good time, and I would not swap it for a crowded party boat to save a few dollars. The food was bountiful and really good, and the boat was surprisingly spacious, with room to gather or get away and to bake in the sun or take refuge in the shade. Our skipper Jesse took on board what we wanted to do and was always planning the next move, and the catamaran gave us extra space and steadiness in the waves.

We have just got back from a three day, two night trip aboard On Ice and it was a great experience. If you are considering this catamaran, ask for Tane as your skipper; he was knowledgeable, laid back and very good at adapting his plans to the changing weather so that we got the best of it. The boat was great, the sights were fantastic and the snorkelling was tons of fun, and it suits anyone wanting a smaller group.

We have just come off a two-night cruise on On Ice and it was amazing. The boat is beautiful and spacious as boats go, with ten passengers, in our case five couples aged twenty to thirty, two private rooms, which I would recommend, and two shared rooms sleeping three each. Skipper Isabel and first mate Sam were excellent, knew the area well and made sure we got the most out of the trip, and the food was really good and a nice change from eating in restaurants. We visited beautiful beaches and snorkelled at three sites; the boat anchors in calmer bays overnight, but bring seasickness tablets in case it is windy.

We had a fabulous few days on On Ice, and the crew were just fantastic. Tane the skipper knew the area so well that he answered everything we could think to ask; I am not a strong swimmer, but he took us to sheltered spots out of the tide so the snorkelling was easy, and we even saw turtles. He timed our Whitehaven Beach visit for late in the day as the sun was going down and the crowds had gone, so by the time he came back for us we were the only ones there. Kristie the deckhand looked after us well and produced enough food to feed an army, and between them they kept the atmosphere relaxed, even treating us to a moonlight sing-song with their guitar.

We sailed the Whitsundays on On Ice with Tris and Julia just before Christmas and it was amazing. I had done the trip before as a backpacker and wanted to do it in style this time with my family, and On Ice was by far the best boat I saw, clean and comfortable with all four rooms having their own ensuite. There were only ten guests plus two crew and five of those were us, so it felt almost like a private charter, and the others were lovely. Julia's food was great and we never went hungry, and the snorkelling spots were beautiful.

We sailed on On Ice in mid-December with ten passengers, a good mix of nationalities, and it never felt crowded. Our skipper, Isabel, was friendly and informative and let people have a go at steering, and her second mate Julia was an excellent cook; some of the best food I ate in Australia was on that boat. We had Whitehaven Beach virtually to ourselves, saw loads of rays and baby reef sharks at Langford Island, plus turtles and a couple of dolphins on the way back to Airlie Beach, and the paddle boards, clear kayak and sea scooter were all good fun. The only shame was the late departure and early return, though with a two-hour turnaround before she sails again there is not much to be done; out of all the boats we saw, we know we chose the right one.

We sailed to the Whitsundays on the On Ice catamaran in a double room with our own bathroom. The boat is excellent, full of luxury and steady enough that we did not get seasick, the beds were good and the places we visited were nearly always deserted; our only miss was arriving too late to see the swirling sands at Whitehaven Beach. Isabell was our skipper and Julia her deckmate, and Julia's cooking was excellent, so we felt at home the whole time. It suits anyone wanting a small group of up to ten rather than a party boat, and snorkelling gear, stand-up paddle boards and a see-through kayak are all provided.

We did a two-night cruise aboard On Ice in late November and it was the highlight of our trip to Australia. Skipper Phil took us to the most beautiful places and first mate Julia kept us all well fed, so there is no need to worry about the food, which is good and plentiful. The crew were friendly and fun and even let us help out. Swimming with turtles, time on Whitehaven Beach, staring up at the stars and watching the sunsets were just a few of the pleasures.

The Whitsundays are fabulous, and On Ice is a good boat to see them from over a few days. Being a catamaran it is more spacious than a yacht, and our private ensuite room was comfortable for a boat, with plenty of deck to sit or lie in the sun; we had worried that two nights on a smaller ship might be monotonous, but it was anything but. We snorkelled at three spots, with swimming beside a huge sea turtle the highlight, visited two secluded beaches and the lookout near Whitehaven Beach, and did stand-up paddling, kayaking and the underwater tow, which pulls you along so you can follow the fish and turtles. With only ten guests and two crew, and skipper and co-owner Tris and chef Julia taking us to the least crowded places, we were always on our own, though if you want a party this is not the boat.

An amazing experience on On Ice that vastly exceeded my expectations. Phil the skipper was fantastic and went above and beyond for us. The catamaran was comfortable and stable with brilliant toys on board, and the stinger suits and masks were good enough that I felt really safe snorkelling. They made a real effort with the cooking, especially with my restricted diet.

I was a little nervous about booking a trip with strangers, but we were lucky to have a boat full of like-minded couples for our three day, two night sail on On Ice. We paid extra for a private cabin, which was spacious and had an ensuite, and our crew, Isabel and Kristie, were friendly and professional. The food was plentiful and tasty, and we got to kayak and stand-up paddle board. Isabel set the itinerary around the weather and timing and got it exactly right, including steering us well clear of the party boats.

If you are looking for a boat to cruise the Whitsundays on, I can recommend On Ice and this three day, two night trip. We had a comfortable double ensuite, and being a catamaran there was plenty of space to relax; sleeping at sea was odd the first night, but after a day of activity the second was fine. We snorkelled three times, sat on two stunning beaches, had a go at wakeboarding and saw plenty of sea life including a turtle, with life jackets available to make snorkelling easier and a see-through boat for anyone not wanting to get in the water; nobody was pressured into anything and we could help out on board as much or as little as we liked. Skipper Isobel and Bo were professional, easy going and friendly, Bo cooked minor miracles in a tiny galley, and I would bring seasickness tablets and a warm jumper, as the sea got rougher and the evenings chillier than I expected.

Our sailing trip was the best part of three weeks in Queensland and New South Wales. Phil and Mink crewed On Ice and were wonderful with our two children, aged 13 and 15, and finding a sailing boat that takes kids is not easy. Phil went out of his way to find turtles and Mink shared what he knew about the Whitsundays; we saw whales, dolphins, deserted beaches and masses of fish while snorkelling, and had paddleboard lessons too.

We booked On Ice for a long weekend to celebrate my partner's birthday, and waking up in the middle of the islands each morning beat any hotel in Airlie. Phil and Mink were warm from the start, the group were like-minded, and the cabins were bigger than expected with their own bathroom and hot shower. Mink's cooking was excellent, they produced a surprise birthday cake, and both happily got the paddleboards and canoe in and out several times a day. They knew where the wildlife was too, so we saw whales and calves, pods of dolphins, large turtles, and lovely coral and tropical fish while snorkelling.

There were ten of us aboard the catamaran On Ice, and our double cabin with its own toilet and shower was far roomier than we expected. Phil and Mink kept things relaxed, cooked very well and clearly knew the area inside out. We had three snorkelling stops among bright fish and varied coral, hours to ourselves on a superb beach, and a lot of fun on the paddle boards. We also saw several whales, including a mother and calf that passed within ten metres of us at anchor, and dolphins on the way back.

There were only six of us, so everyone had their own bathroom, and the boat felt clean and rather luxurious with plenty of space. Skipper Phil and Lindsey, who handled the food, were both excellent, and we could choose where to go and how long to stay without ever being rushed. Even in horrible weather it was great, with stand-up paddling, canoeing and plenty else on offer.

We enjoyed On Ice so much that we came ashore for a couple of hours and then got straight back on for the next sailing. Both crews made us welcome and cooked huge meals, including improvised vegetarian ones after the booking agent failed to pass on our requirements. Because the catamaran is small it can moor where bigger boats cannot, so we had a quiet stretch of Whitehaven to ourselves with paddle boards, windsurfers and a clear kayak among the manta rays. The snorkelling was the best I have found anywhere, and no fins are handed out, which protects the coral.

My boyfriend and I did the two-night On Ice catamaran trip and it was far better than we imagined. The places we went and the things we saw were wonderful, but it was the boat and the crew that lifted it. Sailing on On Ice from Airlie Beach was one of the highlights of our trip to Australia; we booked a private double with ensuite, and it is worth shopping around as agency prices vary. Skipper Luke and deckhand Lindsay welcomed us aboard, and the sea was choppy heading out, so take tablets before you sail rather than after you feel ill. We were among the very first onto Whitehaven in the morning, then snorkelled the fringing reefs with good gear, used the transparent kayak and tried stand-up paddleboarding, with the crew making sure the weaker swimmers felt safe. Our group came from all over and got on well, and what struck me most was how well organised it all was without ever losing the relaxed feel.

We are a German couple who joined On Ice for a two-day, two-night sail with only ten people aboard, and we were the first onto Whitehaven Beach in the morning, with about three hours there including a quieter corner most people miss. Our two snorkelling stops were entirely ours, the coral was in very good condition and the equipment worked properly; no fins are provided, which we thought was the right call for the reef. The food was delicious, especially the wraps on the last day, and our guide Jessie was knowledgeable, thoughtful and funny, taking particular care of my girlfriend, who had not snorkelled much. Our only complaint was the booking office we used in town, which was unhelpful and added charges for luggage storage and card payment, so book direct if you can and bring cash.

We chose On Ice because we did not want a massive party boat. Jesse, the skipper, and Steph, the first mate, were fantastic: full of knowledge, they showed us some wonderful places, cooked amazing food and taught us how to play spoons. Our shipmates were a good mix of singles, couples and a family of three, and although the weather was horrible at times it dampened nobody's spirits, and the sun came out for us at Whitehaven Beach. One night was rough, but most of us had taken tablets and it was all part of the experience.

The boat was beautiful and the crew made everyone feel at home; Jesse, the skipper, answered all our questions, set us new challenges and took us to snorkelling spots off the beaten track, so we were never crowded by other groups. Brendo made sure the meals were delicious and provided plenty of laughs, and we packed in a lot, including stand-up paddle boarding and lots of snorkelling. Having spoken to people who took other boats out of Airlie Beach, On Ice seemed by far the pick of them.

This sailing trip was one of those rare ones that actually met my expectations. The islands, the On Ice boat and the crew were all outstanding: Jesse, the skipper, and Mark, the first mate, went beyond what I am used to, kept us safe on the boat and in the water, fed us really well and made sure there was plenty to do, and I am glad they taught me to paddle board. Whitehaven Beach is astonishing, so take a camera, and I wish I had brought an underwater one for the snorkelling. If we wanted more fish or a look at brain coral they knew exactly where to take us, and there was still plenty of time to sit back and do nothing under a remarkable night sky.

We did two nights and three days on the On Ice cruise. Skipper Jesse and first mate Stephanie were both brilliant, great fun and professional, the boat was clean and very well kept, and the food was great. Jesse packed in as much snorkelling and activity as he could without wasting a minute, and although our group had varying swimming ability he made sure everyone got the most out of it.

We spent three days and two nights aboard On Ice, and everything written about the boat and about Jesse and Steph is true, so there is no need to repeat it. The one thing the crew could not fix was the sadness that came over us every time another boat sailed past, at the thought that those poor people were not having an On Ice trip.

The boat was large, spotlessly clean and well kept, with plenty of room for everyone, and our ensuite cabin was comfortable and big enough for two nights. Skipper Jesse was knowledgeable and skilful with the boat, made sure we had a go at everything and put safety first, which put my mind at rest. There is a no-shoes rule on board, so do not bring an endless supply as I did; happily I was not thrown overboard for forgetting it repeatedly. The food was plentiful, and take enough of your own alcohol because you will want what you have not got; the snorkelling was absolutely brilliant, and we struck lucky with a lovely, funny crowd of fellow passengers.

My boyfriend and I have just come back from three days and two nights on the catamaran On Ice, and were blown away by it. Jesse and Mark were about the friendliest, most outgoing people you could meet and made us feel at home the whole time, and the food was the best I had anywhere in Australia. They worked hard to keep us ahead of the crowd, offering an earlier start to see places first and beating other boats to the snorkelling spots, so we had a whole bay to ourselves. The snorkelling, paddle boarding and kayaking were huge fun, and the coffee was very good too.

This trip was fantastic. The weather was not great at first, but Jesse knew where to go so that we still got the best of it. The boat was lovely, with comfy beds and clean bathrooms, and Rod's food was very tasty with always plenty to go round. My wife and I joined a two-night sailing trip on On Ice and have no complaints at all; the boat, the region and the route were just right. The programme is a good mix, with several snorkelling stops including a sea scooter, stand-up paddle boarding, canoeing and more, and about ten people on board keeps the atmosphere private and civilised. The crew were phenomenal: without pushing, they got us making the most of the time and explained everything well, professional and safety-conscious but never short of humour. Even if you are not experienced in the water or with watersports, they know how to give the right instruction at a glance.

I did the three-day, two-night On Ice trip and cannot think of a better way to see the Whitsunday Islands. Our captain, Jesse, was outstanding and knew how to tweak a very full itinerary around the weather, and his first mate Mark prepared everything fresh and it was excellent. Being the only ten people on Whitehaven Beach was remarkable, and the snorkelling was superb; they even had a sea scooter that pulls you along through the water. Jesse fitted things around whatever we were interested in, but listen when he suggests something, because he always steered us towards the most fun and the most relaxation.

After reading a huge number of reviews and changing our minds several times, we went for the more expensive option with On Ice and do not regret a bit of it. There was always something to do: snorkelling, paddle boarding, the glass-bottomed canoe, windsurfing, or just swimming and sunbathing on deck. There were only ten of us and everyone enjoyed themselves, with good laughs over the fantastic dinners, BYO wine and star-gazing at night.

Thank you to Luke, the skipper, and Isabelle, the deckhand and cook; both are lovely, patient people who know the Whitsundays inside out and never let us miss a thing, from dolphins, whales and turtles to reefs, secluded beaches and constellations you never see from a city. My boyfriend and I did the two-night catamaran sail on On Ice in a double with private ensuite, and every cabin is to the same standard, with crisp white sheets and towels, a hot shower and plenty of room. Our days were snorkelling, paddle boarding, windsurfing and the walk along Whitehaven up to the lookout, with turtles along the way; the evenings were a few wines with the other passengers, card games, star gazing and huge meals. Isabelle can certainly cook, and she will look after you if you have any food intolerances.

Three days and two nights aboard On Ice, with an excellent crew and some great sailing around the Whitsunday Islands. The food was really tasty, there was lots to go round, and all dietary requirements were catered for. If you prefer a bit more comfort and a smaller group than the other tours offer, this is the boat to pick.

We chose On Ice over the large party boats and took a private cabin with ensuite for a bit of space, and it turned out to be the trip of my lifetime. Luke seems to know the islands completely: dolphins on the way out of the harbour, then the first footprints of the day on Whitehaven Beach, and paddleboarding and windsurfing further along the sand, where the crew were endlessly patient with those of us who kept falling in. Snorkelling in a little bay was amazing, and as we were about to head back in the dinghy two humpback whales came past and breached around fifty metres from us. The next day Luke took us to a spot thick with green sea turtles, and the food was great and plentiful, and even the beds suited me at six foot two.

Travelling as a backpacker I was not sure about booking On Ice, since it was above my budget and there were plenty of cheaper tours, but I am very glad I found the extra money. Jesse and Mark did everything to make us feel comfortable and well looked after, from stand-up paddling and windsurfing lessons to a night walk up to the viewpoint to watch the moon rise, plus delicious, healthy food. Almost everyone on board was in a couple, apart from me and one other solo traveller, but I always felt part of the group rather than a spare wheel. If you want a Whitsundays trip with more than just snorkelling, book it.

After spending some time researching the different sailing trips we settled on the two-night trip aboard On Ice and could not have had a better time. The catamaran is superb; we stayed in one of the private double cabins, which was spacious and had its own bathroom, and there is plenty of room to eat inside or out and lots of deck for sunbathing. The itinerary struck the right balance between relaxing, snorkelling and exploring islands, and the boat is kitted out for every water activity, though sitting on deck is fine too. Jesse and Craig were friendly from the very start, kept us entertained and stayed thoroughly professional.
“On Ice :: Sail the Whitsundays on a 46ft Catamaran”
I have just come back from three days aboard On Ice, a 46ft catamaran, and was impressed by how safely and professionally the whole thing is run. The boat is big enough for everyone to have space but small enough that the group spends time together, with indoor and outdoor eating areas, lots of deck, and four cabins each with their own bathroom. Skipper Jesse and first mate Craig both knew their stuff and went the extra mile; my favourite moments were sundown drinks on a sandy island when Craig turned up with the evening's appetisers, and tea and Tim Tams on the sail back to Airlie. Bring your own alcohol, drinking water and beach towel, and something for seasickness if you are prone to it; stinger and wet suits, stand-up paddle boards, a clear-bottomed kayak, a floating island and snorkel gear are all on board.

A friend and I booked the three-day, two-night trip on On Ice and it was a great decision. The catamaran takes ten passengers and has four cabins, two private with their own bathroom and two with a double and a single sharing a bathroom in the hallway, and the common space was kept very clean. Jesse, our skipper, and Craig, the first mate, worked well together; Craig cooked with fresh ingredients and we ate better on board than anywhere else in two weeks of travelling. The weather was bad enough that other companies cancelled, but Jesse reworked the trip so we stayed safe and comfortable and still saw the islands, and when he learned I was pregnant he gave up his cabin with the bathroom and slept on deck; bring something for nausea just in case.

We chose this because we did not want a party boat full of backpackers, and it was perfect: just ten guests, all between about 21 and 35, who got on so well that we went out for a drink together in Airlie Beach afterwards. Our private double with ensuite was bigger than expected and it was good to have our own space, and Luke and Isabelle were great hosts who checked that everyone was all right. The food was great and we tried all the watersports carried on the boat, including paddle boarding, snorkelling from the inflatable, windsurfing and kayaking, with wetsuits or lycra jellyfish suits and snorkel gear provided. The boat calls at Whitehaven Beach and the Hill Inlet lookout as well as other beaches and snorkelling spots; take your own alcohol, and a jumper for chilly evenings on deck.

We spent ages looking at boat trips before choosing On Ice with Luke, and it was the highlight of our holiday. The boat only takes ten people so it stays quiet, with plenty of space and the chance to get to know the others if you want to. It is not a booze cruise and the price reflects that, but the food was fantastic and freshly prepared, the snorkelling was out of this world and we had Whitehaven Beach to ourselves because only smaller boats can moor there. We rarely post reviews but felt we had to share this one.

We came back to Australia wanting more of a travelling experience and to see the beaches and islands, including the Whitsundays. On Ice sleeps ten and we booked a private double ensuite, which was surprisingly spacious with cupboards for storage. Our captain, Luke, was sociable, friendly and approachable, took us to the best snorkelling spots and had a canoe and other watersports on board, while Isabel looked after breakfast, snacks, lunch and dinner; you can bring your own drinks for the evening, but there was no obligation to stay up and the atmosphere was very relaxed. The highlight was snorkelling with giant sea turtles and spotting wonderful fish on the reefs.

My girlfriend and I sailed on the On Ice catamaran with four other couples, and it suits anyone who would rather not have a lot of noisy people around. The crew did a good job, showing us some lovely spots and serving plenty of tasty food between the activities. We snorkelled three reefs off different islands and tried stand-up paddling and windsurfing, though you can also just lie in the sun on the boat. We even saw two turtles on one of the reefs, and the trip was well worth the money.

Iceberg Sailing run two boats, the Iceberg yacht and the On Ice sports catamaran, and my other half and I chose the catamaran because we wanted relaxed sailing rather than the party boat scene. It is set up for a small group of no more than ten guests, with great food, comfortable cabins and plenty of watersports kit: windsurfing, a clear plastic canoe, snorkelling gear, paddleboards and an inflatable paddle platform. Tristan was a fantastic host, shared what he knew about the islands and took us to places that avoided the crowds, where we saw loads of turtles. We also reached Whitehaven Beach before the crowds arrived, with only a few others there.

This was the perfect short cruise for us. Luke and Isabel were welcoming, with a nice balance of relaxed enthusiasm, and the boat was modern, clean and full of gear suited to all abilities that they were happy to let us loose with. I particularly enjoyed the hand-held motors for snorkelling, the transparent canoe and the stand-up paddle boards. The rooms were not too small for a boat and there was plenty of deck space; I have already pencilled in another trip for when my parents visit.

An amazing two-day, two-night experience. Skipper Toby was so knowledgeable about all things ocean and made sure everything was safe and rewarding, from snorkelling and bushwalking to spotting marine and bird life. Host Katie provided fresh, healthy and tasty meals and snacks, and there was so much food. O-Nice was very comfortable, the eight of us had room to socialise or find quiet time, and heading back to Airlie Beach under sail was a memorable finish.

We had an absolute ball on the catamaran On Ice. Dave the captain was so knowledgeable about the Whitsundays, the wildlife and sailing, generous with his time and never made a question feel silly. Deck hand Simone was great, happy and welcoming, and there was so much good food; the boat itself is modern and well set out, and they made the trip feel personalised, including a spontaneous snorkel when it was calm. One suggestion: there were heaps of paddle boards but only one kayak, so a second would be good.

Phil and Mink gave us a wonderful trip and our three boys loved it, especially six-year-old Finn, who still talks about Mink. The food was tasty, healthy and always nicely presented, and the cabins were clean and comfortable. Whitehaven Beach, snorkelling, sea turtles, stand-up paddle boarding, a hike and whales; I would recommend it to families or anyone wanting to see this part of Australia.

Mike and I had a fabulous two-day, two-night sail around the Whitsundays on O-Nice, a 45ft catamaran, and our private double cabin with ensuite was well worth it. There were plenty of water activities, from snorkelling to paddle boarding, heaps of wildlife including humpback whales, dolphins, turtles and colourful tropical fish, and a good amount of sailing too. Toby was a very informative guide and Katie an excellent cook, and nothing was too much trouble. Our travelling companions, a Danish family and a French couple, were wonderful to holiday with.

I went on the On Ice catamaran with a group of friends and would happily recommend it. The boat was comfortable and clean with everything we needed, and the food was delicious and very plentiful. The weather was not kind, but the guided walk, paddle boarding and snorkelling kept us thoroughly entertained, and we reached a part of Whitehaven that only small boats can get to, well away from the crowds. The staff were full of facts and always willing to help, and we even got to hoist the main sail.

The catamaran is spacious and comfortable; our private double with ensuite had a hot shower, and the food was delicious and plentiful, with my vegetarian girlfriend catered for and fresh coffee in the mornings. Tristan and Gary were great hosts and happy to accommodate any request, and we visited the most amazing beaches, with the places to ourselves apart from the sea turtles. The paddle boards, windsurfing, snorkelling and the floating raft were all included and good value.
