Itinerary
Day 1: Darwin to Kakadu
Pick up at 6.30–6.45am from your nominated accommodation in Darwin. We start our Kakadu tour by heading towards Kakadu to join a wildlife cruise on Corrobboree Billabong, a great opportunity to observe crocodiles and the prolific birdlife in their natural habitat. After the cruise, we commence our drive toward Kakadu National Park, stopping for a picnic lunch near the East Alligator River with the chance to spot crocs and flying foxes. Then on to the world-famous Ubirr, home to some of the best examples of northern Australian rock art – learn about the paintings and their meaning from your guide before a climb to the top rewards you with panoramic views over the Nardab floodplain and Arnhem Land. Tonight we camp at our exclusive safari camp at Mardugal Billabong in the heart of Kakadu, relaxing around an open campfire with a cool beverage or a toasted marshmallow.

Day 2: Kakadu Waterfalls
Early to rise for a big day of spectacular waterfalls and great walks. After breakfast we make our way to Maguk (Barramundi Gorge). A 1km hike through paperbark forest, with some rock scrambling, leads to the plunge pool for a cool swim in a pristine environment. We then head to Gunlom Falls in the southern end of Kakadu, where a hike to the top rewards you with a swim in the naturally occurring infinity pools overlooking southern Kakadu – the bottom plunge pool is a must-see and a great place to relax on the beach. We finish the day with a short hike and swim at Ikoymarrwa (Moline Rockhole), a special permit area with very few visitors. Tonight we camp at Mary River Roadhouse on the Kakadu border.

Day 3: Kakadu to Litchfield to Darwin
Up early again to head to Litchfield National Park, where today is spent exploring its wonders. Learn about the intriguing Cathedral and Magnetic termite mounds that are prolific in this region, then spend the day hiking and swimming at Buley Rockhole, Florence Falls and Wangi Falls. Return to Darwin at approximately 5:30pm.

“A Fun Adventure”
We did the 3-day, 2-night Kakadu and Litchfield tour and had a wonderful time. Our small mixed-age group — including two happy children — enjoyed a short cruise, walks, rock art, campfire nights, and lots of swimming in beautiful waterholes, with some 4WD driving to reach these special places. The tent-style accommodation was comfortable, and our guide Jeremy was excellent — knowledgeable, fun and a great group leader. We loved every minute and would recommend it to anyone.
“Outstanding experience”
Genuinely one of the best experiences of my life. I went with my sister, but there were families with young children, older couples and solo travellers, so it suits everyone. Our guide Jeremy was incredibly knowledgeable and clearly passionate about his job, which made it even better. We saw so many outstanding places and different wildlife, and learning about the Aboriginal people and the history of each location was brilliant.
“Great tour with fun guide”
Had a lot of fun days in Kakadu and Litchfield with Tour operator Rick. Was a nice guy who could tell nicely and knew a lot about the area. Many animals and beautiful nature seen! Because of the wet season not everything was open but that didn't spoil the fun. The campsites were good where both nights we slept in a big tent on a bed. The campsites were equipped with everything, kitchen, toilet block and swimming pool. Have had a great time!

Did the 3-day Kakadu tour and had an amazing time with our group and guide Rhett. Even after an engine failure on the first day, he still got us to all the planned spots with plenty of time. The food was great and we enjoyed campfire music in the evenings. Highly recommend!

Our Tour Guide, Rhett, was simply outstanding. It was soon clear that he had a passion for his job! His knowledge was remarkable. We all learnt so much. He was also very supportive and caring. And great fun! It was a very positive and enjoyable experience.

“Amazing spots, and best tour guide”
I had an amazing time on this trip. Especially our tour guide Rhett was amazing. He was very easy-going, and gave us the best stories about history, the sky, view points and how he learned to play songs on the guitar (that night around the camp fire was one of my faves). I also recommend as a solo traveller. There is a bit of a tougher hike on the second day, that I enjoyed. Everyone was able to do it at their own pace which was appreciated. Cheers!
“Great Guide, tour & locations. But be prepared for the basic acc”
Rhett our guide/driver/chef/singer was excellent, he did everything he could to make our trip memorable. He was a wealth of knowledge about the places we went to and worked hard to keep us entertained and well fed. Kakadu and Litchfield are amazing places, loved seeing the big Crocs on the billabong cruise, the rock art at Ubirr and the beautiful waterfalls and swimming holes. The first night accommodation is VERY Basic, it definitely needs some attention, 2nd night is more what we expected.

A wonderful experience for our group of 14, ages 10 to 60. A great range of stops, with amazing views and rock art, breathtaking swimming pools and plenty of crocodiles. The camping was comfortable and great fun, and the food straightforward but tasty. Our guide Libbie was exemplary — easy-going, fun and interesting — with a real flair for making everyone feel comfortable. Highly recommend.

What a great trip with Rhett as a tourguide. During the day he tells a lot about everything hat you see at the walks. He is a real storyteller and interesting to listen to. A really fun adventurous tour with our awesome tour guide Rhett. He was knowledgeable, entertaining and took us to all the great spots! Plenty of food, great walking tracks (without being too strenuous) and some beautiful swimming locations. The camping was fun and every place we visited was magical. A superb break as part of our three week family holiday. A fantastic guide makes all the difference, we had Rhett whose knowledge and delivery captivated our four boys! A real asset to your trip if you can get him! The camp fire music was a night to remember with everyone involved playing an instrument. Rhett’s cameo talk on astronomy under the stars was equally captivating and impressed us all with his detailed explanation of the stars and universe above us.

Had the best time on my Kakadu/Leitchfield tour. I did the 3-day/2-night Kakadu and Litchfield tour as a solo traveller and loved it. With a small group of five, our guide Mishka was super chill and very knowledgeable, with clear daily plans discussed to suit everyone, including tweaks to avoid the crowds. We saw the most spectacular spots in both parks, and the accommodation each night was exactly what you'd expect — a bed and a bathroom block — with plentiful meals. Mishka was the perfect guide, and I'd happily book again.

A fabulous tour with so much packed into the 3 days. Our tour guide Rhett expertly guided us to some amazing places and shared great knowledge of the sites through excellent and immersive storytelling.
Our overnight camping experience had everything we needed to enjoy a comfortable but traditional bush camp experience with the added luxury of hot showers.

We went on the 3 day 2 night tour of Kakadu and Litchfield! A truly superb time with a great group of travelers from all over! A great group that had an exceptional Tour Guide - Nate. My husband and I went on the 3-day tour to Kakadu and Litchfield. We had an awesome guide, Dan, and a great group. It was an amazing experience to see the wildlife and waterfalls and immerse ourselves in the culture, and Dan made sure we saw Kakadu at its very best — a huge thanks to him. There was plenty of food and cold water; just make sure you take sunscreen and mosquito repellent.
I did the 3-day Kakadu and Litchfield tour a while ago but forgot to review it. Adam was one of the best guides I've ever had — very knowledgeable and really taking the time to chat with everyone. Being in the NT, expect many hours on the road, physical activity, unpredictable weather and roughing it some nights — all things the company can't control. I chose Territory Expeditions because I wanted an authentic experience with a smaller company that genuinely cares about the environment and its customers, and I definitely wasn't disappointed. I've recommended them to many people and will keep doing so.

I had a great other experience with Lost In Australia at another tour. with an opposite experience where the tourguide was really approachable and relaxed!
All in all I really think the tour is good and the contact with Lost in Australia was good, they helpt me last minute get a tour!

Excellent trip including lots of waterfalls, a crocodile cruise, wildlife spotting and rock art. Our guide Russell was amazing — informative, kind and really took care of us, explaining the Aboriginal culture and showing us lovely places in nature. The only slight disappointment was missing Jim Jim and Twin Falls because the road was in poor condition.

This tour isn't cheap, but I'd gladly spend the money again. It was well organised, and our guide Russel was very knowledgeable about the nature and Aboriginal history and made sure everyone was happy. I personally preferred Kakadu to Litchfield, being a little less touristy. Be prepared to swim a lot!

Our small group of eight, plus guide Russell and Ken, had a wonderful way to experience the Northern Territory, Kakadu and Litchfield. Both Russell and Ken were extremely knowledgeable about the animals, plants, traditional customs and geology, always ready with interesting information. The tour was well planned but never felt restrictive — the billabong wetlands cruise was great, the Kakadu rock art fascinating, and we thoroughly enjoyed the hikes and swimming in the beautiful rock pools and waterfalls. Even the long drives stayed interesting with frequent wildlife and lookout stops. It's a camping tour, so facilities were rustic but comfortable, and the food simple but plentiful and delicious. One of the highlights of our three weeks in Australia.

I never write reviews, but I’m doing this review because of how amazing it was!! Our tour guide, Pip, was the most amazing tour guide I’ve ever had. He was very knowledgeable, kind, helpful, funny, and friendly! Definitely recommend him if you can. The 3 days 2 nights camping was perfect. The tents and camping facilities were better than expected. The food was great and perfect for camping. The National Parks and views we saw were incredible. Swimming in the clear pools/waterfalls with an amazing view is something I’ll never forget. This is a must do trip if you like the outdoor adventures!!

We had a fabulous three days on this tour - a good taste of what Litchfield and Kakadu have to offer.
The guide was friendly and knowledgeable, and the accommodation was basic yet comfortable - we stayed in permanent tent structures in a private areas of a caravan park, which gave a sense of adventure without actually having to 'camp'. The food was good for 'camping food, and healthy and tasty. A fair bit of driving, and some bumpiness but it wasn't bad.
Would recommend.

My family of four went on a private 4WD tour of Kakadu and Litchfield with Adam as our guide. Both parks were great, but Kakadu was exceptional — truly one of the crown jewels of Australia's national parks. Kat and Anthony were extremely caring and accommodating in planning the trip, and Adam was an outstanding guide: knowledgeable, fun and competent, with a real love and respect for Aboriginal culture and history. It took time, effort and money to get to the Northern Territory, but we were so glad we did. Would we go on another tour with Territory Expeditions? Absolutely!

This trip was the perfect ending to my time in Australia. The tour included a variety of activities and sites to do and see, such as the crocodile cruise and visiting some impressive waterfalls at Litchfield national park. My guides Darren , Josh and Kasey were extremely informative and provided excellent knowledge of the two national parks. Darren knew a lot of information about the aboriginal history of the area which was fascinating to learn about. All three guides were very easy to talk to and made the trip very comfortable for me , especially as I’m travelling solo. I’d highly recommend this trip. Lots of fun with great activities and easy going guides.

“Amazing local knowledge”
the tour with Dani was really good, she had grown up in the Kakadu area and so had so much local knowledge about the people, art and a secret Waterhole which was croc safe! the campsites were good and Dani always made sure she had ice to keep the water on the bus cold which was always appreciated in the heat! I definitely learnt a lot on this tour whilst having a great time with the group. The only criticism I would have is that at Litchfield we weren't told as much info but Dani had told us that she knew stuff about it but obviously not to the extent of Kakadu.

“Dragonfly Dreaming 3-day 4WD tour”
An exciting adventure...well done Wayoutback Tours! With a well organized itinerary and excellent knowledge of the area’s geography, history, nature and culture, our guide Leigh introduced us to Litchfield and Kakadu National Parks. We loved seeing crocs and birds on the Yellow Waters Cruise, swimming in the waterfall pools, sunset walk at Ubirr and stopping at various billabongs. The truck was new with working air con. The meals and snacks were good. Since we are mid-sixties visiting during extreme October heat, we upgraded to lodge accommodations. Having air-con and private toilet/shower was nice, but really there was only sleeping time there, as the days were full with activities. The tent accommodations looked reasonable. If you have a good level of fitness and looking for an outdoor adventure this tour is a great way to experience Australia!

My brother and I were hesitant, wondering if we could do it ourselves for less, but it was 100% worth it. We had a small group of eight plus our guide Russ, who was the real MVP — he went out of his way to make sure we had the best time, hit all the best spots at the right time of day to avoid the midday heat, and would deviate slightly to fit in other great attractions. We learned loads about the plants, animals and culture and saw plenty of wildlife up close. Days were full, food was good, and camping was in great spots with proper beds. Couldn't recommend it more.
“Great experience”
I went on the 3-day Kakadu and Litchfield tour and had an amazing time. Our group of ten was a perfect size, and our guide Adam was knowledgeable, funny and helpful, with loads of fun facts and an answer to any question. Nothing was too much trouble, and he always made sure we were comfortable and enjoying ourselves. The parks and wildlife were beautiful and the Aboriginal rock art was incredible. Highly recommend!
“Exceptional Tour”
AMAZING... we had such a great 3 days on this tour. Nat was so knowledgeable about the geography, culture, nature and history of the areas we visited, not to mention a lot of fun!
The camp sites, whilst basic (as expected) added to the whole experience and we slept very well. The food was really good and we always had what we needed, including constant access to fresh water.
The highlight for us was the sunset at Ubirr and the walk to Jim Jim Falls. Although the falls weren't flowing (which we knew) this did not detract from the beauty of the area and the rewarding walk.
Litchfield and Kakadu are magnificent places and this tour enabled us to see the best of them over a short time.
Highly recommend.
“3 day Dragon fly Dreaming”
Wow, what a trip. Our guide Mel knew her stuff and kept us all informed and amused during the trip. If you ever find yourself in this part of the world, get yourself on one of these tours. Lichfield and Kakadu are wonderful places, fantastic views great places for a dip to cool off (Jim Jim falls especially). Plenty of wildlife to be seen, loads of salties about. If you don't mind roughing it a bit (camping) you will love this trip. Child/family friendly.
I went on the 3-day Kakadu and Litchfield tour, and my only complaint is that I should have booked a longer one! The expedition was amazing, and our guide Chris was very knowledgeable and an absolute top bloke — couldn't think of anyone better for the job. The destinations are spectacular and the whole experience priceless.

I had so much fun hiking and swimming, and our guide Russell told us a lot about the Aboriginal culture and the surrounding nature in a way that was interesting, informative and fun. “Dragonfly Dreaming”
What a great way to experience a taste of what the Top End has to offer! Stevo, our guide, was professional, friendly and informative. Texas, our 4WD companion was surprisingly comfortable and the permanent tents provided comfortable though basic accommodation. The night trips to the ablution block were augmented with fantastic views of the Milky Way. The scenery and billabongs were a-ma-zing! The wildlife (including crocodiles) were in their natural environment and were close by - Wonderful adventure, would do it all again.
“Dragonfly dreams”
We went on the three day Dragonfly tour to Litchfield and Kakadu Park. Although it’s pretty pricey, the places are absolutely worth seeing and we highly recommend this tour! However, Litchfield cannot compete with Kakadu and we would have preferred to see more places in Kakadu (e.g. Gunlam Falls and Twin Falls) and skip Litchfield! Our tour guide Kirsten was really fun and motivated, had a decent knowledge of culture, plants and especially native animals such as reptiles! Jim Jim Falls was definitely the highlight for us, although we would’ve liked to stay there a bit longer! The tour would benefit of having both a guide and a driver to split up tasks.

Words or pics can’t possible do this part of the world justice... From beginning to end the adventure was superb. Waterholes, crocodile river cruise, indigenous culture, camping, meals, hikes, scenery, wildlife... you get it all in this Jammed packed 3 day tour of Litchfield and Kakadu. “Beyond our expectations!”
Could not have asked for more — except more time, as three days was all too short. My two teenage children and I found the tour simply stunning, from the breathtaking scenery to the diverse landscape. Our guide Heath was outstanding — brilliant company, easy-going, incredibly knowledgeable, handy on a campfire, and he really understood who we were and what we'd enjoy. You could tell he genuinely cared that every trip felt like his first too. We'd return in a heartbeat. A great company with superb staff — we can't thank you enough.

We toured Kakadu and Litchfield with Territory Expeditions and can't speak highly enough of them, especially our guide Heath, who was knowledgeable, engaging and fun. The basic amenities suited the camping style, which suited us very well. What we loved best was being given opportunities as they arose — whether discovering Indigenous foods and medicines, nesting sea eagles or the odd python. We also loved that it was an active tour, with walking, some rock scrambling and lots of swimming under stunning waterfalls. As an active older couple, we loved exploring Kakadu and Litchfield with such a youthful, energetic group, made possible by our very capable and engaging guide.

“WayOutBack dragonfly dreaming”
Fantastic 3 day trip, even though water was high we saw rock art and waterfalls and the Yellow River day showed us the beautiful country and 6 crocs and swam in beautiful pools. Thanks to our guide Kat we were well taken care of, she was knowledgeable and fed us well. We did opt for the upgrade to a/c sleeping quarters the first one was very nice and the second was on a working cattle ranch which was very cool. Thank you for sharing your country!
“Brilliant”
I did this trip with my 30yr old niece. I am in my 60s. We had a brilliant time with our group of 16, all apart from 3 were from Northern Europe. Our guide Rowdy was wonderful, very knowledgable and helpful. He was also great fun. We saw big crocs, magical aboriginal art, and all that is fabulous about the kakadu. The places we stayed at were friendly and with good facilities. Food etc was also good. Highly recommended for a brilliant experience!
“3 day Kakadu & Litchfield trip with Territory expeditions…”
I was in Darwin and really wanted to do a Kakadu trip but was restricted on time, so I picked the 3-day, 2-night camping trip. Kakadu was absolutely amazing — the changing colours of the outback, the waterfalls and the swimming spots. We slept under the stars, and our guide Heath was fantastic, with a real love and respect for the environment and the local people; down-to-earth and chilled, which really helped the group dynamics. There were 16 of us and, after Heath introduced everyone, the group got on brilliantly, with some great late nights around the fire. There are a few rocky climbs to the waterfalls, but nothing too tricky, and the toilet and shower facilities were better than I expected, with hot water. We visited two swimming spots in Kakadu and two in Litchfield, plus the Ubirr rock art site. I loved Kakadu and hope to go back.

Highly recommend this trip! We nearly booked individual day trips to Kakadu and Litchfield but are so glad we chose the 2-night, 3-day tour. We saw wildlife, slept under the stars, experienced such natural beauty and, most of all, had a great laugh. Heath was our guide — so passionate about his work, and our DJ, knowledgeable guide, photographer, chef, driver and entertainer, even reminding us to stay hydrated. He couldn't have done more, even sacrificing his own tent when there was a shortage of mosquito nets and finding a birthday cake and candle in the middle of nowhere. “3 day/2 night tour of Kakadu & Litchfield was fantastic…”
This 3-day/2-night Kakadu and Litchfield tour wasn't just my favourite tour of Australia, but one of my favourite tours ever. It packed in amazing natural wonders, and the level of service from front office to guide was outstanding. The truck was comfortable, the campsites clean and functional, and the food quite good. But the very best part was our fantastic guide, Heath — a rare guide who brings great experience, leadership and knowledge along with heaps of enthusiasm and good humour, with zero burnout. He was my favourite guide of all the tours I've done around the world and my favourite person I met in Australia. I recommend Territory Expeditions as the tour operator in Darwin — you won't be disappointed.

“Incredible and memorable experience of the NT”
This trip to the NT was the most memorable holiday I've had. I joined solo and was humbled by the like-minded, adventurous group I met. I'd considered doing Kakadu and Litchfield in a hire car, but after three days with our fantastic guide Chris, his local knowledge and insight into the diverse landscape and Aboriginal history hugely enhanced the experience. It was total immersion in nature — swimming in peaceful waterholes and stunning waterfalls — and, as a group, we decided to start early on the final day to catch sunrise at Gunlom Falls, the highlight of the trip. The facilities and food were fine, and dinner conversations with the group were a real pleasure. I can't rate this trip highly enough — forever grateful. Jasmine.
“Territory Expeditions - 3 day Kakadu & Litchfield tour”
Kakadu and Litchfield are must-sees! We visited at the very end of the wet season, when everything was green and the waterfalls still gushing but it wasn't too humid, and we avoided peak season. With only nine of us piled into the troopie, sleeping under the stars and getting along off-road tracks to stunning waterfalls, we avoided the crowds. For the more independent, adventurous traveller this tour is perfect — everyone enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and flexibility, and we got the real deal with no unnecessary extra costs. Dean was a terrific guide who shared his experience and passion for the landscapes, people, plants and animals. I wish more tours were this good!

I'm usually not the tour type and prefer doing things on my own, but with limited time in Darwin I joined this tour and didn't regret it for a second. Our guide Adam was lovely and funny, and his knowledge and passion made a big difference. We packed a lot into three days — swimming in natural pools, short hikes, Aboriginal art, plenty of crocodiles, and sleeping under the stars in a swag. I learned so much. Highly recommend!

“Awesome experience at Litchfield and Kakadu National Park”
One of the best tours I've ever been on. Our guide Chris went above and beyond, sharing his insight into Aboriginal culture and the outback throughout. We did a few things differently from the itinerary due to seasonal variation and the group's wishes — basically if we were having fun, we'd stay longer. My highlights were swimming at the infinity pool at Gunlom Falls and the hike to Gunwarddehwarde Lookout, both of which Chris timed so we had them to ourselves. The accommodation over the two nights was comfortable, with power and amenities close by, and the food was simple and basic but true to a camping experience. Kakadu is the size of a small European country, so there's a lot of driving, but the order of locations was well planned and drives were broken up with regular stops. Highly recommend for anyone wanting to experience Litchfield and Kakadu with little to no camping experience. Special mention to Chris for being an amazing guide and an all-round good bloke.
