Itinerary
Welcome to Kakadu!
Join us on the adventure of a lifetime as we uncover the very best Kakadu has to offer. We leave tropical Darwin travelling through the rich floodplains towards Kakadu National Park, this 20,000 square kilometre area is teeming with wildlife, important Aboriginal rock art sites, and diverse landscapes.
Our first stop on this 1 Day Kakadu Tour is an optional Jumping Croc Cruise on the Adelaide River or a visit to the Fogg Dam Conservation Centre. The traditional lands of the Limilngan-Wulna people (who are active in the reserve’s management), one of the most spectacular places to explore the diverse wildlife of the Top End, home to numerous species of birds, turtles, water pythons and of course the iconic Saltwater Crocodile.

We’ll stop in at the Bowali Visitor Centre and Murrawuddi Gallery to learn more about the rich indigenous culture and history of this special place and break for lunch (at the guest’s own expense). We’ll visit the famous *Cahills Crossing in search of crocodiles at this eye-opening stretch of water, the only road access point between Arnhem Land and Kakadu National Park.
Visit the World Heritage Listed, sacred site Ubirr rock art. Home to some of the oldest and best-preserved rock art galleries in the world. Dating back some 20,000 years and discovering the hidden secrets with a guided walk.
* Cahill Crossing Infrastructure Upgrade – Construction of the new viewing platform will start on 5 May 2022 and is expected to be completed in 12-16 weeks. While the viewing platform will be closed to visitors during this period, the East Alligator (Erre) downstream boat ramp and the Manngarre rainforest walk will provide alternative options for visitors to enjoy croc spotting.

How much luggage can I take?
We don't have an exact policy when it comes to luggage though we just ask our customers to be mindful that we have limited space. Generally we recommend people to bring a large backpack/suitcase with all their gear and another smaller backpack to keep on the bus and hold their daily items ( phone, water bottle, towel, sunscreen etc ) and which they used to take on walks etc. If you have a lot of luggage is best to leave the things you don't need at your hotel/hostel where they will store it for free.
Where can I store my luggage whilst on tour?
During the tour your main luggage will be stored in our trailer. This trailer is always locked however we cannot guarantee the complete safety of your gear from theft or damage. This is why it is so important to purchase a good travel insurance. If you need to store your luggage whilst away on tour, this can be done through your accommodation. Most hostel and hotels will store your luggage safely free of charge.
Will I be able to do any laundry whilst on tour?
For camping tours there will be no time to do laundry. However, for longer cross country tours involving hostel or hotel style accommodation you may have the opportunity to wash your clothes.

Our tours are made to be fun, informative and active and can be enjoyed by anyone with a moderate degree of fitness and agility. Travellers should be comfortable with hiking/walking up to 5km each day.
Do I need travel insurance?
Insurance is important in protecting visitors from loss or damange of goods, medical problems, cancelation by passengers or other casualties. Its highly recommended. Some tours on this website require you to have travel insurance. If you are Australian then it is not necessary.
Can I get online whilst travelling?
For tours incorporating hostel/hotel style accommodation you may have the opportunity to use wireless internet or use of nearby internet cafe. If you have a mobile plan with internet then that should be ok except for more remote regions. This will vary from tour to tour so please contact us directly for more accurate information.

You can use your mobile while touring in Australia or New Zealand, but coverage may be limited in remote areas. For best connectivity, consider purchasing a local SIM card or an international roaming plan.
Will the itinerary change?
Itineraries may vary and/or attractions be substituted for any cause including seasonal conditions (including the opening and closing of Twin and Jim Jim Falls and other natural attractions), weather extremes, traditional owner and national park requirements. Can I just do a section of this tour and not the whole trip?
Unfortunately it is not possible to only do a part of the tour. Passengers generally need to stay with the tour from start to finish. However, drop off locations at the end of the tour made me negotiated.

No. Tour prices do not include any travel arrangements other than for the duration of the tour itself. If you need assistance with booking flights or buses our travel team and certainly help - Just ask!

Who travels with us
Is this tour for me?
Our tours are made up of small groups with a range of different ages, nationalities and backgrounds. Generally people who travel with us are between 20 and 49, though we also get alot passengers much older onboard - everyone is welcome! On tour we get equally as many males as females and everyone shares an enthusiasm for the out doors, nature, adventure and culture. Our tours are for those wanting to really explore and share the experience with likeminded travellers. Whether we are camping by a billabong in Kakadu National Park or sharing a cabin in Tasmania, our travellers want more than just a site seeing tour. They are chasing a hands on group experience. The trips are packed with many highlights and the pace can be fast. There may be some long drives and passengers should expect to help out when setting up camp or cooking food - this is a group adventure. However, there’s always time to chill out, have a cold beer ( or wine! ) and soak up your surroundings. As always, if in doubt then contact us directly with your concerns.
Cost and Fees
What does "Paid Locally" mean?
Some tours require you to pay national park fees directly, in cash, to the tour guide on the morning of departure. Rest assured this will be subtracted from the tour price when reserving your tour.
Will I need additional money?
Visitors are advised to bring some cash as ATMs and banks can be few and far between depending on where we are during the trip. Its handy to have some extra cash as we do stop by local shops and cafe.
Do I need to tip our guide?
If you had an amazing time on tour and wish to tip the guide, then that is completely up to you. However, tipping is not customary and is not at all expected.
Whilst on tour
What type of tent will I get?
Tents are generally designed to accommodate a minimum of 2 people. This means there is plenty of room to move about and store your luggage. However, most Uluru tours we try and encourage the use of swags and mattress rather than tents. This is the ideal way to camp in the centre of Australia; Around a campfire, under the stars!
What will the food be like?
Our emphasis is on fresh food wherever possible and our meals are nutritious and varied on these tours. If you are vegetarian or gluten intolerant we can cater for you, but if you have very specific dietary needs you may need to provide your own food, please discuss this at time of booking. For breakfast we supply cereals, fruits, toast, tea and coffee. Lunch is usually a self-serve picnic sandwich and salads; in the evening we have a cooked dinner - This can vary between pastas, bbqs, rices and other hearty food to keep you energized! We always carry water in the vehicle and you will often have the chance to buy your own drinks, ice-creams etc at stops. Please refer to each individual tour/package to establish which meals are included.
Can you cater of special diets?
We can certain cater for most dietary needs. Please advise us at the time of your booking so arrangements can be made. For travellers with more extreme diets we may ask that you bring along additional snacks.
Can I book extra accommodation for the start and end of the tour?
We know our country inside and out and would be happy to give you good recommodations. Please contact us for recommendations.
What vehicles do we use whilst in Kakadu?
For our Kakadu Tours we toss between a Troop Carrier 4WD Landcruise, 4WD Canter or a custom prepared mini bus. This depends on the size of the group and the amount of days we are out in the park. Each Kakadu tour varies so please refer to your tour info panel on the top right hand side of the page.
Is there any long periods of driving?
The initial drive out to Kakadu can be quite long. In total its almost 300km to the park border. But don't worry! We stop along the way to check out a few attractions and we also visit the Bark Hut Inn where you can stretch and grab some refreshments. “Kakadu a must to see if in Darwin”
What great day out.
Early start and 12 hours later back to Darwin but was well worth the time out.
Crocodile Jumping was excellent, both entertaining and very informative. Great pictures of the Crocs and other wildlife on the river.
The Kakadu was spectacular, seeing the paintings and the climb which would not have been possible without the assistance of Alex at times for the less mobile.
Alex kept us informed and entertained all day. He was very vigilant in ensuring all his guest were able to walk climb etc in the harder parts of the tour.
As I say a great day out. Thanks Alex
just a note, the ticket said meet at the Travel lodge in Darwin.
The Travel lodge had been taken over. We checked the pick up point the previous day so we were aware. Maybe this is just a paper issue for a standard confirmation letter, not yet amended
“Kakadu Day Tour”
What an absolutely marvellous day trip. Alex and Tim our tour guides, went above and beyond what we expected to ensure that everybody was safe and enjoying the day tour.
Their knowledge was amazing,
I thoroughly recommend that tour, thanks again Alex and Tim for making it a special memory.
Regards
“Loved it.”
We had a terrific day trip with Charlotte out to Kakadu. She was friendly and knowledgeable about the area and features along the way, and moved us through the day’s activities at a relaxed but well managed pace that was considerate of different people within the group of 16. Good value for money too. Thank you!
“Beautiful day out!”
With limited time in Darwin, I highly recommend doing this Kakakdu day tour, as a great sample of what to expect if doing a longer tour in future! Our group had 2 fantastic driver-guides from Autopia - Leigh & Alex, who were both so knowledgeable
& informative during the tour! They made it a comfortble & safe trip, with lots of photo ops, toilet stops & mountain tops! People of all ages & abilities were on our bus, with both guys ready to help with any mobility challenges on the rocky paths at Ubirr - which showcased amazing indigenous rock art & beautiful sunset views at the lookout! Big thanks also to Alex & Leigh for going the "extra mile" in dropping us all back to our respective hotels in Darwin, so we didn't have to walk blocks from a central drop-off point at 9pm! Much appreciated & recommended to all travellers!

“A long hot day but definitely worth it to see the aboriginal art”
We really enjoyed our tour with our guide Tim. He was incredibly knowledgeable driving us across 700 km of the Northern Territory in just one day. We saw some really unique aboriginal artwork in Ubirr!
Tim prepared us as best he could but I’d suggest the tour company prepare us before we leave by making it clearer in the description about what to bring. The description did not mention bringing sunscreen, a hat, or water all of which were really essential for the day. The tour included hiking at Ubirr, and that should have clearer in the description of the tour. Also, even though we were there in the winter time, temperatures were into the 30s Celsius (90s Fahrenheit). If you are going to go, be prepared!
I’d recommend going on this tour especially to see the aboriginal art!
“A long and hot but spiritual day in Kakadu”
Tim was a wonderful, knowledgeable, and patient guide. We were enjoyed learning about the aboriginal art and their history from him. He covered a lot of ground in one day (700 km!!).
For the touring company, it would have been helpful to be better informed about what to bring. It was not clear how much hiking we might be doing in Ubirr. Hat, sunscreen, and plenty of water were essential! They told us we could pick up lunch and Tim also informed us and the need for snacks later in the day (it was a long day!).
Overall, I would recommend this tour to anyone who is interested in really seeing aboriginal art up close. It’s an incredibly spiritual and memorable experience!
“Great”
We had a great time, Tim was fantastic is knowledge was great, he was very helpful about climbing to the look out. Tim made the experience even better.
“Kakadu is a must for tourists to Darwin”
Congratulations to this company for being so thorough & well organised.
Rick is an amazing tour guide! He goes above & beyond what we expected a guide to do.
The whole day far exceeded our expectations & highly recommend to other travellers.
“Serene”
I was in Darwin from Ireland for a holiday and had a spare day so I booked the kakadu and jumping crocodile tour. We all had a very enjoyable day. It is a long day but we'll worth it. I would recommend doing the overnight or longer tour if you have time as it is a long drive to kakadu and back from Darwin. Our guide Lee,Leigh? was excellent, very welcoming and a vast amount of knowledge about the fauna and flora and local Aboriginal cultures. Kakadu is like being on a different planet. The scenery is spectacular. Thanks for a great day.
“Great one-day trip”
Trip exceeded my expectations.
Saw interesting rock art, some interesting bird species and heard some interesting narration. It would be a long day for kids though…
“A great day trip to Kakadu”
We’re just back from a full day with our fabulous driver and guide Tim. He was delightful, knowledgeable, helpful and fun to spend the day with. The tour covered exactly what was promoted, the bus was comfortable, and we learned a lot. Highly recommend this tour. Thanks Tim
“Kakadu Adventure”
This is a great opportunity to view the Ubirr rock art panel in the Kakadu National Park. The aboriginal paintings are extraordinary!
You can also take a boat ride to see saltwater crocodiles.
“Great Kakadu experience”
Had an amazing day trip to Kakadu and Fogg Dam. Our Tour guide, Tim, was excellent. So much interesting information given to us and he has a great knowledge of the area and its people. Very genuine feel to him.
“Monday 7/7/25”
Tour guide was fantastic, very knowledgeable. Everyone on the bus were very friendly. Even though we were delayed, still got to our destination.
“Fantastic cultural and natural experience!”
Two fantastic tours, Kakadu and Litchfield. Tim was an incredible tour guide, super informative and interesting, full of brilliant information. Highly recommend Tim and the tours.
“Kakadu day tour”
We really enjoyed our time on this tour. We knew it would be a long day however doing day trips from Darwin was really our only option for this holiday. Leigh is such a legend. Gosh he made this trip so memorable. He is so knowledge about pretty much everything and just a really down to earth guy. He explained everything we were seeing in detail and went above and beyond to ensure this trip was enjoyable. The croc cruise was a nice way to start the day and seeing the aboriginal paintings were also a highlight. Thanks Leigh for a wonderful day and for your sunset recommendation at the boat club, it was the perfect way for us to finish our time in Darwin.
“Recommend!!”
Rick was ace! Loved our day trip to Kakadu and jumping crocs tour!! It was an Amazing day of ticking off bucket list items
“What a great day!”
The jumping crocs and the Kakadu tour made for a great day, made all the more enjoyable by our guide Aaron. He has so much knowledge which really enhanced our tour.
“Nice trip.”
Very long day with lots of driving.
Jumping crocodile definitely worth it. With respect for the animals in their grounds, certainly not a circus attraction.
Hike was amazing.
“ Louise W Melbourne, Australia6 contributions 0 A place of wo”
Jam packed day. Your guide can really make or break a tour, and Tim was exceptional. So knowledgeable, passionate, culturally respectful and full of facts. We had designated stops of Fogg Dam, full of bird life, Cahills Crossing when the tide was turning and over 15 crocs lazily catching fish and then Ubirr rock wall paintings with a climb to the top for a 360 view. Any chance to spot other wildlife, or sights along the way Tim would point out or explain the history. Definitely worth it.
“Great day tour”
We were fortunate to have had great weather on our day out to Kakadu. Everything was well taken care of and the tour was very informative. Would have loved to stay longer if we had the time. All in a all a great trip, and many thanks to our guide for the very generous sharing!

Tim, our guide, led the tour well, very informative, interesting and engaging. Thanks Tim for the great day!
“Great trip for the family. Incredible vistas and ancient history”
Tim gave us a fantastic tour of Kakadu - he was so knowledgeable, super friendly, and we had an amazing time - our 8 and 10 year old loved despite the heat. The couple of ice cream stops made a difference. Comfortable air conditioned coach - and chance to see lots of local wide life and cave paintings, whilst learning about Australian culture and history. Thank you.
“Kakadu Day tour”
Fantastic tour! Exceptional tour guide. Aaron was incredible with a wealth of knowledge about everywhere we went a firm understanding of historical facts and a wonderful delivery to keep the group interested. He was also kind and caring of older members of the group helping them move around the sites. We had a yes very long day but well worth it and highly recommend Aaron and the tour!! Loved every minute of it 5 out of 5!
“Amazing trip”
The trip to Kakadu National Park was incredible. Our guide, Mr. Bogdan (Boggie), was incredibly professional and guided us through the entire trip, sharing many unique and interesting stories about both the park and northern Australia, and adding many interesting facts. Mr. Boggie created a friendly atmosphere during the trip, always waiting for the whole group, and ensuring everyone was properly hydrated throughout the trip, considering the high temperatures and sun exposure. I highly recommend this trip to everyone; it's truly worth it!
“Great tour in the cockatoo”
Impressive drive into the cockatoo with many highlights. The drive is very far for a day tour (return around 8pm), but you get a great insight into the cockatoo

“Magic trip through the Kakadu landscape”
Very enjoyable trip from Darwin to Kakadu taking in a range of sights and with a wealth of knowledge passed on by our guide Tim. Good size group, coach comfortable, interesting mix of places visited.
Croc Cruise was better than expected because (a) the crocs were completely in their natural environment and respected thoughout and (b) our host was super entertaining and knowledgeable.

Overall a very good choice for anyone wishing to gat a taste of Kakadu.

I had a wonderful experience at Kakadu National Park. Bogdan, our guide, was incredibly knowledgeable and it was beyond interesting to learn about the Aboriginal culture whilst enjoying the beautiful landscape of the National Park. Bogdan even dropped me at a closer spot to my home so I could get home safely. Totally 5 Stars!
“Kakadu and Crocodile Day Trip”
Had a great day visiting the Jumping Crocodiles and Kakadu. If you think you can do this on your own be aware there is hardly any phone reception in Kakadu and it is a LONG way. Our guide, Bogdan, was awesome. He was knowledgeable and had a great sense of humour. Was the best way to see Kakadu. Take plenty of water. Food is limited so take lunch if you can.
“Great quick trip to Kakadu”
Really interesting day out. It is a lot of driving but several stops along the way made the day go very fast. Tour guide was very informative and seemed to know the area well. I chose the Fogg Dam option and found the place fascinating. A place I would return to at different times of the year to experience the bird life. Cahills Crossing was a highlight with all the crocs hanging out in the water for fish. Highly recommend for someone like me who didn’t have a lot of time and always wanted to visit Kakadu National Park.
“Awesome and highly recommended”
This was a long day but Boggy was very informed and informative making the kilometres dissolve between stages and left with so happy
“Beautiful Kakadu”
all day tour. We took the option of the jumping crocodile experience. Tim the tour guide provided a lot of interesting information. Thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. It was the transition between the dry and wet season and so the tournament was not crowded. We enjoyed the rock art at ubirr and the panoramic view from the top of the rocky outcrop. Small tours are well worth it!
“Definitely worth doing.”
Not really sure what to expect on the trip, but it was great. Rick - our driver and guide - was incredibly knowledgeable, engaging and helpful. His tour around Ubir was fantastic. We learned so much about indigenous art work and culture due to Rick’s passion and understanding of the issues made this a valuable experience. The Adelaide River crocodile cruse was entertaining. Jack and Shane were humorous and informative. As well as the jumping crocodile, we observed Kites being fed when swooping the boat.
“Very enjoyable”
Driver was excellent and overall experience 8/10.
