See MapVisit World Heritage-listed Fraser Island on the ultimate Australian beach 4×4 driving and camping adventure. Experience 4×4 driving yourself in one of our tag-along vehicles whilst visiting the most amazing freshwater lakes and ancient rainforests. Bathe in the Champagne Pools and view incredible marine wildlife from atop Indian Head. View the Maheno shipwreck stranded along 75mile beach set against the incredible colored sands. Grab an inflatable tube and float down the famous Eli Creek. Be sure to look out for the wild dingo’s while driving along the beach.
Our Fraser Island 4wd tours camp is located on the corner of one of the only privately-owned campsites on Fraser Island.
Day 1
Leave Pippies Beachhouse 7am sharp, our Fraser Island Tours kicks off with a 20min barge ride from Inskip Point to Fraser Island.
Drive in awe up the first portion of 75 mile beach to Eurong. We then head inland towards Lake McKenzie
Arrive at Lake McKenzie and take a dip in these incredibly pure, clear waters. Words do not do this amazing lake any justice.
Drive to Central Station where we eat lunch and walk along the waters of the very special Wanggoolba Creek. Learn Fraser Island’s history in a time before this beautiful island was protected. We then leave for a drive back to 75-mile beach and onto Pippies camp.
Arrive at our incredible campsite and chill after a long day.
Dinner time! Cook a BBQ together with your new Fraser Family and spend the night socialising together next to a campfire or under the covered seating area.
Day 2
Wake up early (hangovers are no excuse!) to a simple, easy breakfast of toast and cereal before getting back in the cars to head further north.
Arrive at the Champagne Pools to cleanse under awesome waves crashing over into the natural rock pools, creating the bubbly “champagne.” Then back to the cars again for a short drive to our next destination.
Climb the stunning Indian Head (one of the few rocks formations on the island) to spot the amazing marine wildlife that can be seen off of Fraser Island. If luck is on our side, we can normally spot Humpback Whales (August – October), Sharks, Sea Turtles, Dolphins, huge Rays and many schools of tropical fish. Next a drive back to Pippies camp for lunch and then onto our next location.
A short drive down the beach is the largest creek on the Eastern Beach; Eli Creek. Take a walk up the boardwalk with a rubber ring and float down these serene waters. Eli Creek pumps up to 4 million litres of fresh water into the sea every hour!
The second to last location of the day is a short drive from Eli Creek and Pippies’ Fraser Island Tours camp; the Maheno shipwreck. As the sun lowers in the sky watch the rusty wreck against the sea sky and incredible coloured sands seen up the coast.
Finally, a short stop at The Pinnacles on the way back to Pippies camp. Seen from the beach this sand formation is a prime example of the coloured sands seen all up the Fraser Coast.
Arriving back at Pippies camp to take a breather after an amazing day, wash away the sand in the amazing amenities block just a short walk from our campsite…… then more food! As part of our Fraser Family, we cook spaghetti bolognese together with garlic bread, followed by another night of socialising under some of the Southern Hemisphere’s most spectacular stars.
Day 3
Wake up for your last day in paradise! Another quick and simple breakfast before setting off to the final location on our Fraser Island Tours.
Drive a moderate distance down the Eastern Beach to the entrance of Lake Wabby. Here we will walk for around 40-45 mins down a beautiful sand track through the bush and out onto the Hammerstone Sandblow. Located a short walk along the sand blow, Lake Wabby is the deepest lake on Fraser Island. So be sure to take a dip and chill next on its shores.
After our lunch on the beach, it is time to make our way back to the barge and Rainbow Beach. But not before hunting for the mysterious Eugarie and learning the meaning of our name: Pippies!
Arrive back at Pippies Beachhouse in Rainbow Beach between 1pm and 4:30pm. (dependant on the tides) Chill for one last night with your new Fraser Family!

What should I pack?
Depending on where in Australia or New Zealand you decide to visit, your luggage will vary. For exact information please visit the "What to bring" section of each tour page.
What immunisations do I need?
For the latest information on immunisations, we strongly recommend you or contact the Travellers Medical and Vaccination Centre (www.traveldoctor.com.au) to discuss health requirements for your trip. They will advise you about appropriate inoculations.
Do I need to take any medical supplies?
It is not necessary to bring any medical supplies other than any personal items you may require. Each tour will carry an first aid box and our guides are all certified in First Aid.
How much luggage can I take?
We don't have an exact policy when it comes to luggage though we just ask our customers to be mindful that we have limited space. Generally we recommend people to bring a large backpack/suitcase with all their gear and another smaller backpack to keep on the bus and hold their daily items ( phone, water bottle, towel, sunscreen etc ) and which they used to take on walks etc. If you have a lot of luggage is best to leave the things you don't need at your hotel/hostel where they will store it for free.
Where can I store my luggage whilst on tour?
During the tour your main luggage will be stored in our trailer. This trailer is always locked however we cannot guarantee the complete safety of your gear from theft or damage. This is why it is so important to purchase a good travel insurance. If you need to store your luggage whilst away on tour, this can be done through your accommodation. Most hostel and hotels will store your luggage safely free of charge.
Will I be able to do any laundry whilst on tour?
For camping tours there will be no time to do laundry. However, for longer cross country tours involving hostel or hotel style accommodation you may have the opportunity to wash your clothes.
Do I need a sleeping bag?
For all camping tours require you to have a sleeping bag. If you don't have one they may be available for hire via the "join tour" button.
How fit do I need to be?
Our tours are made to be fun, informative and active and can be enjoyed by anyone with a moderate degree of fitness and agility. Travellers should be comfortable with hiking/walking up to 5km each day.
Do I need travel insurance?
Insurance is important in protecting visitors from loss or damange of goods, medical problems, cancelation by passengers or other casualties. Its highly recommended. Some tours on this website require you to have travel insurance. If you are Australian then it is not necessary.
Can I get online whilst travelling?
For tours incorporating hostel/hotel style accommodation you may have the opportunity to use wireless internet or use of nearby internet cafe. If you have a mobile plan with internet then that should be ok except for more remote regions. This will vary from tour to tour so please contact us directly for more accurate information.
Will I be able to use my mobile whilst on tour?
You can use your mobile while touring in Australia or New Zealand, but coverage may be limited in remote areas. For best connectivity, consider purchasing a local SIM card or an international roaming plan.

Booking the trip
Do I have to book this tour online?
Definitely not. Our website is designed to make is easy and convenient for you to schedule your tour. However we understand sometimes its nice to talk to someone directly. So by all means give us a call and we can organise your trip over the phone.
If I book more than one tour can I get a discount?
Absolutely! If you are booking multiple tours then we may be able to offer you a discount. Send us an email at info@lostinaustralia.org and let us know what you thinking of doing and we can put together a price for you.Also, be sure to look out for monthly specials on tours. We often have some great bargains.
How do I know when a tour is available?
You can check the departure dates of tours by using our calendar on the top right hand corner of the tour page. This will tell you what days the tour departs. For availability of seats please contact us directly at info@lostinaustralia.org or call us.
Can I just do a section of this tour and not the whole trip?
Unfortunately it is not possible to only do a part of the tour. Passengers generally need to stay with the tour from start to finish.However, drop off locations at the end of the tour made me negotiated.
Does the tour price include flights?
No. Tour prices do not include any travel arrangements other than for the duration of the tour itself. If you need assistance with booking flights or buses our travel team and certainly help - Just ask!
How far in advance do I need to book my tour?
As a rule of thumb we generally say AT LEAST 2 weeks prior to departure, this will usually get you a seat on the date you want. That being said, we cannot guarantee that spaces will be available at the time of your booking so, if you can, book as soon as possible. Bookings can still be made right up until the departure date of the tour if seats are available. If you know when you'd like to travel, please contact us and we will let you know if you need to book soon or if you have time.
If I make a deposit only, when will I need to pay the balance?
Balance on tours need to be paid at least 30 days prior to departure. Failure to do so could result is the cancellation of your seat with a fee charged. If you need more time to clear your balance then let us know ASAP and arrangements can be made.
Who travels with us
Is this tour for me?
Our tours are made up of small groups with a range of different ages, nationalities and backgrounds. Generally people who travel with us are between 20 and 49, though we also get alot passengers much older onboard - everyone is welcome! On tour we get equally as many males as females and everyone shares an enthusiasm for the out doors, nature, adventure and culture. Our tours are for those wanting to really explore and share the experience with likeminded travellers. Whether we are camping by a billabong in Kakadu National Park or sharing a cabin in Tasmania, our travellers want more than just a site seeing tour. They are chasing a hands on group experience. The trips are packed with many highlights and the pace can be fast. There may be some long drives and passengers should expect to help out when setting up camp or cooking food - this is a group adventure. However, there’s always time to chill out, have a cold beer ( or wine! ) and soak up your surroundings. As always, if in doubt then contact us directly with your concerns.
Cost and Fees
What does "Paid Locally" mean?
Some tours require you to pay national park fees directly, in cash, to the tour guide on the morning of departure. Rest assured this will be subtracted from the tour price when reserving your tour.
Will I need additional money?
Visitors are advised to bring some cash as ATMs and banks can be few and far between depending on where we are during the trip. Its handy to have some extra cash as we do stop by local shops and cafe.
Do I need to tip our guide?
If you had an amazing time on tour and wish to tip the guide, then that is completely up to you. However, tipping is not customary and is not at all expected.
Are there any hidden fees I need to know about?
Our tour prices are completely transparent. There are no additional fees involved that are not included in the overall tour price shown. If you wish to do optional activities such as helicopter rides or wildlife safaris, then an extra cost may be needed. However, this will always be made clear at the time of your booking.
Whilst on tour
What will the food be like?
Our emphasis is on fresh food wherever possible and our meals are nutritious and varied on these tours. If you are vegetarian or gluten intolerant we can cater for you, but if you have very specific dietary needs you may need to provide your own food, please discuss this at time of booking. For breakfast we supply cereals, fruits, toast, tea and coffee. Lunch is usually a self-serve picnic sandwich and salads; in the evening we have a cooked dinner - This can vary between pastas, bbqs, rices and other hearty food to keep you energized! We always carry water in the vehicle and you will often have the chance to buy your own drinks, ice-creams etc at stops. Please refer to each individual tour/package to establish which meals are included.
Can you cater of special diets?
We can certain cater for most dietary needs. Please advise us at the time of your booking so arrangements can be made. For travellers with more extreme diets we may ask that you bring along additional snacks.
Can I book extra accommodation for the start and end of the tour?
We know our country inside and out and would be happy to give you good recommodations. Please contact us for recommendations.

Wow, such a cool experience! We had heard so many good things about the tour but it was even better than expected.
To drive on the beach, visit the beautiful champagne pools and camp under the stars, was amazing. We had an awesome tour guide, Kev. He took so good care of us, had a sense of humour and made the tour 10/10.

The island was incredible itself but was complimented by getting to drive through the bush and on the beach in the 4x4s. The campsite itself was lovely with great amenities such as the shops. Finally onto our tour leader Kev, Kev was one of the loveliest blokes I have ever met. He made such an effort to get to know everyone and came across like a mate rather than just a tour guide! Kev is definitely what topped off the experience and made it 5 stars. Will definitely be recommending pippies to my mates.

Did this tour with my friend last weekend and it was honestly class! Driving in a 4x4 down the beach and through the tropics - what an experience. Our tour guide was Scott and what a great guy, proper good laugh. Campsite and food was also 10/10 (bonus points for the rave cave). Would highly recommend this to anyone thinking about doing it. The weather wasn’t exactly the best, but even still - unreal.

Well where do I begin with this review…
This tour was by far the best thing I’ve done on the East Coast and I’ve got to say thanks to our tour guide Scott.
From the moment the tour began to the moment we got back to rainbow beach it was packed with fun.
A highlight for me was being able to explore the island in a 4x4 with people who started out as strangers and then becoming friends.
The spots that you get to visit through pippies are amazing.
Throughout the tour, Scott was ensuring that we were all clued up on the history of the island which was great to learn!
The food we got provided for was really tasty and the campsite was well equipped with everything you’d need!
My favourite parts was definitely Lake McKenzie and of course the rave cave!
Once again thanks to Scott and pippies for making this trip a once in a lifetime opportunity!

Even though the weather wasn't optimal, the sun blessed us at the right times so we could experience Fraser Island in all its glory. Awesome place on earth, awesome tour and awesome guide!
Cory guided us very professionally across beach and trickier inland roads, which made it feel very safe and all the more fun. The places you see and where you swim here are amazing. The facilities and the food are both good, bring some extra snacks for yourself.

Best trip in Aus by far, Kev our guide was amazing and made the whole experience for us, felt like one big family by the first day! He took great care of us but had a lot of fun with us at the same time. He was knowledgable of the island and took time to get to know the groups there, aswell as keeping us safe! Loved our time on Fraser Island. Our tour guide, Kev, was great. He knew a lot about the island, was super friendly and was excellent and helping the drivers figure out how to drive on the sand which was a first time experience for everyone.
Campsite was nice, sleeping two to a tent. Toilet facilities very clean and showers very good. We were vegetarian and there were a few dairy/gluten intolerant people and all were catered for no problem. Fraser island/K'Gari itself was stunning. Overall , loved my experience here.

If you’re lucky enough to have Kev as your tour guide, you’re in for a great few days with Pippies on Fraser! He was so knowledgable about the islands history and animals and he made us all feel safe and comfortable. The food was great and the campsite was lovely, nice clean toilets and showers, hammocks and cooking facilities. Even a little rave cave for those who want to stay up and drink at night without disturbing others. You’ll see all the great sites on the island and there’s plenty of opportunities to try driving the 4wd if you want to.
Can’t recommend more whether you’re solo or in a couple/ group! You’ll make great friends and have an amazing time.

Such a fantastic experience! Our tour guide, Kevin, was so good and so knowledgeable of the island. He fought snakes, bugs and Patricia. Amazing lakes, pools and sunrises. The food was great - especially the garlic bread. The rave cave is one of a kind. I want to do this again and will be recommending Pippies to everyone.

Great group of people, great locations and Jonesy our guide was top notch(one of the funniest people we have ever met)!
We really enjoyed being of the grid and being outdoorsy. This trip was definitely the highlight of our trip to Australia. 10/10 would definitely recommend!

Had the most amazing 3 days! Jonesy was hilarious and made our trip 10 times better, and was nice for someone to appreciate my Spanish tunes jaja! Deffo drive in one of the cars if you can and if you can’t, driving around with the tour guide is also amazing! And don’t stress too much about the wildlife, I was quite nervous of the snakes and spiders but we barely saw anything, and the spiders are far away and harmless most of the time. The camps were clean and so were the toilet facilities (hot showers :0!) Deffo book with pippies if you can! And I hope you get king jonesy, and if you harass him just enough he might tell you some of his amazing stories!!

Can’t recommend this experience enough, it was the highlight of our trip up the east coast!! Our tour guide Kev was an absolute legend, he made the whole experience and we felt in safe hands throughout. Felt like we packed lots in but also a nice amount of time to chill in the evenings. Organised in such a great way and you get to know the people in your car of 8 really well, it’s nice that everyone takes it in turns to cook and help out around camp. No cringey icebreakers!! Food was great and always loads of it, able to have 2nds whenever you wanted. Hot showers available. Loved loved loved it, K’Gari we will be back (only ever with Pippie’s!!!!)

Well… where do I even begin?! This was the highlight of my trip to Australia! All especially with thanks to Pippies!
2 nights camping in a comfortable, well equipped & clean campsite, including flushing toilets & showers which was a huge luxury that other tour companies don't offer! Visited all the sites on the itinerary as planned & enjoyed delicious home cooked food 3 times a day!
A special shout out to our tour guide Kev, who truly made our trip! Kev was so friendly, kept us safe, was a lot of fun & a great laugh! il never forget him!
Apart from the tour being so great alone, i have to give my whole hearted thanks to Kev & Corey from the Pippies crew who helped get my iphone back to me in 24 hours after leaving it on the island!! With very limited communication & signal, i really thought it was the end of that phone! But the Pippies team came together just for me & I will never forget that!!!

If you are traveling the east coast this is a must do for me. We have been to Fraser for 3 days & 2 nights and we’re lucky to have Corey as our guide there. He’s an absolut legend. The whole group had constantly so much fun while traveling through this beautiful island to amazing spots. If you are able to drive by your own I highly recommend to choose the self driving option. It was just perfect. GO FOR IT !!

So glad I chose Pippies for my offroad camping tour. Jamie our guide was an absolute blast and we all felt really well taken care of and he provided tons of laughs. Pippies was recommended by several other travelers I ran into in Asia before I even got to Aus. They have nice bathrooms near camp and we had all the comforts we needed. Campsite was great, the different stops were fantastic and cars were incredibly fun to drive. Would definitely recommend if you don’t mind getting a bit rough with the camping side.

The food was amazing, the gluten free freaks got the exact same meal as everyone else with yummy alternatives. I will be sourcing the noodles, garlic bread and pancakes as they were the nicest GF/ dairy free stuff I’ve ever had! Allergens got to get their food first at every meal time so that nothing got mixed up. Bathrooms were nice too and there was a good merch shop near the camp.

What a wonderful experience from start to finish! Highlight of being in Australia. Our tour guide Kev was wonderful he made sure everybody felt comfortable driving and kept us entertained on the radio. Driving the cars was so much fun and we met such wonderful people. The food was also great, everybody was catered for regardless of dietary requirements, nobody was hungry after any meal. Each car cooks a different meal over the course of the 3 days which is a great team bonding experience. The tents were sheltered and everybody was provided with everything they needed for their tents. A wonderful way to spend 3 days in K’Gari and I would highly recommend doing it you won’t regret it. An unforgettable experience with Pippies for the K’gari adventure I cannot recommend this enough. Everything about it was incredible from the start to the finish. The tour guide Kevin was not only knowledgeable, funny and made sure everyone had a good time and felt at ease. The food was so nice too and cooking with people you meet was a fun addition too. No internet on the island so you really got to know your group and this just added to the experience. As I said I can’t recommend this enough we had an incredible group of people, an incredible tour guide. The driving of the cars can be daunting but it was most definitely a highlight of the trip. It was my highlight of my Australian adventure. I hope everyone enjoys this as much as I did and if you are with Kevin tell him I said Hi.

This trip was a great was to experience Fraser Island. We got Jamie as our tour guide who was great! All of the food over the 3 days was great. Proper camp style meals where everyone chips etc. The driving was a personal highlight for me, there is lots of beech driving and off road tracks in the jeeps. Wazza also needs a shout out, he is on the island all year round looking after the camp etc. Very sound man with some great stories.

Had the most amazing time visiting some beautiful spots. I really enjoyed it even as a non-driver just taking in the views. Scott was a fantastic and friendly guide, he was very informative and always ensured we were safe and having a good time! Camp was really well set up with great facilities and comfy sleeping arrangements! Well fed throughout with delicious food.
My friend who did drive did say the driving was a more challenging than expected so be prepared if you’re driving!

My partner and I went on this trip not entirely sure what to expect. I can definitely say we made the right choice in going.
We loaded up and set off at 6am after meeting our guide Corey who stayed with us the whole trip.
Corey was a great guy, knew loads about the island, let us lead him with what we wanted to do and see and he definitely delivered.
The weather was pretty shoddy one of the days but we still had a great time.
If you are looking for a bit of adventure this is the trip for you.

Best tour ever!! I had so much fun driving offroad around the Island, swimming in the coolest places and meeting so many great people. Honestly couldn't recommend it more. Kev did an awesome job guiding us around. He communicates really clearly so you know exactly what to expect, and if you don't he's more than happy to answer any of your questions. We’ve had the best time on Fraser Island, the only thing I didn’t like were the flies our tour guide who was called Nathan/Nate was the most loveliest person ever. He was so helpful and so much fun, always answered any questions we had. We were lucky to be in the same car as him the whole time as it felt like we were VIP guests being able to ask questions the others couldn’t. If I was to ever go again I would definitely request Nate, he felt more like a mate rather than a guide and was absolutely hilarious!
I’m actually going to miss being on the island and not having a care in the world. It was great to not have wifi, I liked looking around and seeing everyone chatting rather than being on their phones.
So a massive massive thank you to Nate for the best few days, I hope you enjoy your Doritos I left you! (something to remember me by)

Kev!! What a guy! Honestly this trip has made myself and Rachel’s adventure in Australia unforgettable!
Being cut off from the outside world has been a blessing!

This was the best tour we’ve done during our time in the East Coast! Cory really made the trip as our tour guide as well. He was such a laugh and also kept us well fed and showed us the best parts of the Island. The camp set up was brilliant as well as the shower facilities. Highly recommend going with Pippes!

Luke was the best tour guide we could have asked for!! Super informative about everything on the island, but also such a good laugh and really made the experience what it was. The activities on the island are such good fun and the food is all really good. Meeting Wazza around the camp was such a good laugh and he has done such a good job making the camp what it is. 10/10 experience!

We were part of a 3-day group tour, our guide, ‘Kev’ was fantastic, very informative and passionate which made a massive difference! The views were amazing and we got to experience things we would never otherwise have the chance to, like driving along a beach and visiting tropical inland lakes. Definitely recommend!

Booked onto this tour with my best friend. We weren't sure what to expect but we had the most amazing time! Cory was our tour guide and he funny, helpful and gave us the best time! We were so lucky to have him as our guide! The best guide in Queensland Australia :)
From start to finish we absolutely loved the trip and enjoyed seeing all the sights on Fraser Island. I would definitely recommend and will be back to do this again! Thank you again Cory for making our trip amazing!!!

The tour was amazing from start to finish. Scott the tour guide was very informative and we learnt a lot about the island. Also having a tour guide passionate for their job showed through and made the experience of Kgari so much fun.
I would definitely recommend Pippies to other travellers because of its value for money and experience. My friend and I had the best time and it was definitely the highlight for our East Coast Trip. I have done a previous tour years ago with a different company and can say that this was way better.

The most enjoyable trip! The tour was very well organised and ran smoothly. We did a good range of activities across the island, but didn’t feel too jam-packed. We were impressed by the food and the facilities, and we were in very good hands! Kev was a very friendly and knowledgable tour guide.

Our tour guide Kev definitely made the trip what it was, kept us safe and protected while also making sure we had fun. This tour is amazing if you want non stop activities and exploring, but can get very tiring!

Tina was an absolutely amazing tour guide. Very well thought out trip. Camp site was nice and good food.
Would have been nice to mix up the cars each day. I managed to get a car with all couples so I was third wheeling a lot of the time..
Not Pippies fault however the only negative would be as a solo traveller, a lot of the wider group were already travelling together (few groups of 4+) - potentially there could be a tour for solo/duo travellers as I did feel there to be a slight divide in the group.

Incredible experience and the best activity you can do in Australia!
Absolutely loved every single second and our tour guide Scott was incredible and gave us amazing insight into the Island.
You are camping so do prepare for insects whilst you’re on the Island and at Camp.
The weather we had was incredible and I felt we had more than enough time at all the places we visited: Lake Mackenzie, Champagne Pools, Shipwreck and floating down the creek to name a few.
The stars on the Island were the best I’ve seen in my life and the people you meet will make the experience even better.
The food was really good and you will make it together with your camp.
You can drive the 4x4 on the Island if you want to and it’s a fantastic experience but you do need to be a confident driver as you’re responsible for 7 other passengers.
June is a fantastic time to go if you get the opportunity and would highly recommend Pippies above all others!!

Where do I even begin?! This was the most incredible weekend. We were chaperoned around the island by Kevin (k-dog) and he was brilliant. He kept us all safe and ensured we worked as a team to make this the best experience. Wazza was also so so kind and funny. Sitting around the campfire with these two was one of my favourite parts of the trip. These guys have a hard time keeping 31 of us in check and they did it with ease. Our group was amazing and I have made some friends for life on this tour and memories to last a life time. The organisation was brilliant and made everything so much easier for us. THANK YOU PIPPIES!!! Highly recommend anyone to go to k’gari with this company. You won’t regret it.
