DAY 1: ARRIVE IN AUCKLAND

Location: Rotorua

Where can I get more information about this trip?

What should I pack?

Depending on where in Australia or New Zealand you decide to visit, your luggage will vary. For exact information please visit the "What to bring" section of each tour page.

What immunisations do I need?

For the latest information on immunisations, we strongly recommend you or contact the Travellers Medical and Vaccination Centre (www.traveldoctor.com.au) to discuss health requirements for your trip. They will advise you about appropriate inoculations.

Do I need to take any medical supplies?

It is not necessary to bring any medical supplies other than any personal items you may require. Each tour will carry an first aid box and our guides are all certified in First Aid.

How much luggage can I take?

We don't have an exact policy when it comes to luggage though we just ask our customers to be mindful that we have limited space. Generally we recommend people to bring a large backpack/suitcase with all their gear and another smaller backpack to keep on the bus for daily items ( phone, water bottle, towel, sunscreen etc ) and to take on walks. If you have a lot of luggage it's best to leave the things you don't need at your hotel/hostel where they will store it for free until your return. If you are unsure, please contact us.

Where can I store my luggage whilst on tour?

During the tour your main luggage will be stored in our trailer. This trailer is always locked however we cannot guarantee the complete safety of your gear from theft or damage. This is why it is so important to purchase a good travel insurance. If you need to store your luggage whilst away on tour, this can be done through your accommodation. Most hostel and hotels will store your luggage safely free of charge.

Will I be able to do any laundry whilst on tour?

For camping tours there will be no time to do laundry. However, for longer cross country tours involving hostel or hotel style accommodation you may have the opportunity to wash your clothes.

Do I need a sleeping bag?

For all camping tours require you to have a sleeping bag. If you don't have one they may be available for hire via the "join tour" button.

How fit do I need to be?

Our tours are made to be fun, informative and active and can be enjoyed by anyone with a moderate degree of fitness and agility. Travellers should be comfortable with hiking/walking up to 5km each day.

Do I need travel insurance?

Insurance is important in protecting visitors from loss or damange of goods, medical problems, cancelation by passengers or other casualties. Its highly recommended. Some tours on this website require you to have travel insurance. If you are Australian then it is not necessary.

Can I get online whilst travelling?

For tours incorporating hostel/hotel style accommodation you may have the opportunity to use wireless internet or use of nearby internet cafe. If you have a mobile plan with internet then that should be ok except for more remote regions. This will vary from tour to tour so please contact us directly for more accurate information.

Will I be able to use my mobile whilst on tour?

You can use your mobile while touring in Australia or New Zealand, but coverage may be limited in remote areas. For best connectivity, consider purchasing a local SIM card or an international roaming plan.

Booking the trip

Do I have to book this tour online?

Definitely not. Our website is designed to make is easy and convenient for you to schedule your tour. However we understand sometimes its nice to talk to someone directly. So by all means give us a call and we can organise your trip over the phone.

If I book more than one tour can I get a discount?

Absolutely! If you are booking multiple tours then we may be able to offer you a discount. Send us an email at info@lostinaustralia.org and let us know what you thinking of doing and we can put together a price for you.Also, be sure to look out for monthly specials on tours. We often have some great bargains.

How do I know when a tour is available?

You can check the departure dates of tours by using our calendar on the top right hand corner of the tour page. This will tell you what days the tour departs. For availability of seats please contact us directly at info@lostinaustralia.org or call us.

Can I just do a section of this tour and not the whole trip?

Unfortunately it is not possible to only do a part of the tour. Passengers generally need to stay with the tour from start to finish.However, drop off locations at the end of the tour made me negotiated.

Does the tour price include flights?

No. Tour prices do not include any travel arrangements other than for the duration of the tour itself. If you need assistance with booking flights or buses our travel team and certainly help - Just ask!

How far in advance do I need to book my tour?

As a rule of thumb, try to book at least 2 weeks prior to departure, this will usually get you a seat on the date you want. That being said, we cannot guarantee that spaces will be available at the time of your booking so, if you can, book as soon as possible. Bookings can still be made right up until the departure date of the tour if seats are available. If you know when you'd like to travel, please contact us and we will let you know if you need to book soon or if you have time.

If I make a deposit only, when will I need to pay the balance?

Balance on tours need to be paid at least 30 days prior to departure. Failure to do so could result is the cancellation of your seat with a fee charged. If you need more time to clear your balance then let us know ASAP and arrangements can be made.

Who travels with us

Is this tour for me?

Our tours are made up of small groups with a range of different ages, nationalities and backgrounds. Generally people who travel with us are between 20 and 49, though we also get alot passengers much older onboard - everyone is welcome! On tour we get equally as many males as females and everyone shares an enthusiasm for the out doors, nature, adventure and culture. Our tours are for those wanting to really explore and share the experience with likeminded travellers. Whether we are camping by a billabong in Kakadu National Park or sharing a cabin in Tasmania, our travellers want more than just a site seeing tour. They are chasing a hands on group experience. The trips are packed with many highlights and the pace can be fast. There may be some long drives and passengers should expect to help out when setting up camp or cooking food - this is a group adventure. However, there’s always time to chill out, have a cold beer ( or wine! ) and soak up your surroundings. As always, if in doubt then contact us directly with your concerns.

Cost and Fees

What does Paid Locally mean?

Some tours require you to pay national park fees directly, in cash, to the tour guide on the morning of departure. Rest assured this will be subtracted from the tour price when reserving your tour.

Will I need additional money?

Visitors are advised to bring some cash as ATMs and banks can be few and far between depending on where we are during the trip. Its handy to have some extra cash as we do stop by local shops and cafe.

Do I need to tip our guide?

If you had an amazing time on tour and wish to tip the guide, then that is completely up to you. However, tipping is not customary and is not at all expected.

Are there any hidden fees I need to know about?

Our tour prices are completely transparent. There are no additional fees involved that are not included in the overall tour price shown. If you wish to do optional activities such as helicopter rides or wildlife safaris, then an extra cost may be needed. However, this will always be made clear at the time of your booking.

Wow! what an amazing experience it was!From start to finish the tour was so efficiently planned out. Our group leader and his proactiveness and willingness to go above and beyond really eased the whole process for a first time solo traveller; messaging about transport options from the airport, daily packing lists and itinerary reminders, as well as being a really enthusiastic and fun guy. The trip was brilliantly organised from start to finish, with airport pickup and drop off from the first and last location all organised by Intro and our tour leader! Our tour leader, Andre, was a fan favourite in the group. He matched our energy and jokes so well it felt like he was apart of the holiday rather than just leading it. His experience as a tour leader really showed through his ability to keep things running smoothly, and share his outstanding knowledge for Indonesia and the country’s heritage. Everyone always felt very comfortable and looked after - give this man a raise! The tour covered several locations across Bali with a couple of days in the Gili Isles as well. One of the highlights was seeing multiple turtles while snorkelling within ocean reefs, a truly majestic sight. Additionally, I also really enjoyed learning from the local guides at the temples, rice paddies, farms, and Monkey Forest in Ubud. The markets were fantastic too! It was my first experience bartering which was great fun! And of course, I can’t forget the nightlife. We were lucky enough to experience a full moon party which Andre carefully had planned out for us! We also became millionaires after winning the notorious pub quiz on Gili-T! Definetly a holiday highlight! I would recommend that this trip is suitable to solo, couple, or group travellers. A couple things to be aware of is some early wake-up calls and long drives on uneven road surfaces - bring something comfy to cushion up on! There is also free time in-between some activities which allow you to have a break. I would recommend filling this time with scuba diving and ATVs if you are up for a thrill! Would had loved an extra couple days did not want to go home! I would happily travel with Intro again, assuming I didn’t make too much of a fool of myself and they’d have me back! I’d also love to see them run a tour in Peru in the future, as there is a wonder there I need to see! Until next time Andre and Intro! Sampai jumpa lagi!

I can’t emphasise enough how wonderful this trip was. Our tour guide Vivek and our group leader Dev made us feel so safe and taken care of at every point in the journey. There were countless times when both went far beyond what would ever be expected of them in terms of service and care. Aside from that, they were also both genuinely nice and fun people to be around and made a real effort with everyone which really helped the group relax and enjoy themselves. They are both highly informed and intelligent, and they educated us on so many issues and topics related to India. The accommodation, food and activities were super and we were able to just relax and enjoy the tour. I would absolutely recommend Intro to anyone - especially solo travellers, and I would happily go on another tour with them.

I just finished my 17 day tour of Japan and like every one I've had on Intro it was truly memorable and exceptional. From the urban sprawl and hubub of Tokyo, to the history of Kyoto, to the chill vibe of Osaka, to the scenic mountain vistas, especially Mount Fuji, This tour checked all the boxes and I highly recommend it to anyone who's considering. And our Tour Leader Charlie was phenomenal! Not only did he ensure we were having a great time but he adeptly handled all the organizational responsibilities flawlessly. Brilliant trip, can be very tiring as it is very on the go and busy with early starts but it needs to be to be able to see as much as you do on this tour in a short space of time. It was an amazing experience. The itinerary was well planned, fitting as much as possible into our time frame with a good mix of activities, sightseeing and beach day/ chilling out and getting to know other travellers. This tour was absolutely fantastic! It was very well-organized and included a great variety of activities. My personal highlight was K’gari Island – such an incredible experience. I got to see all the places I wanted to without the hassle of booking anything, with the added plus of meeting so many lovely new people. There are so many highlights of Australia which the tour covers such as the Great Barrier Reef & K’Gari, the adverts don’t do the tour justice. The tour leaders are friendly & so helpful with any little thing whether it’s onwards travel or if you just feel down! I would recommend this tour to anyone looking to go to Oz.

The best holiday I have ever been on. The accommodation was amazing. Everything was planned so well and from day 1 I felt like I was in good hands. Our group leader Sam really made the experience though. She is so talented at what she does and made every moment perfect. We were so well informed about everything we were doing and everywhere we were going. She had genuine personal connections with all the locals that we encountered and had so much knowledge of the local areas, which meant we got truly immersed culturally and got to know the locals and their ways of life. She really couldn't have done anything more for us and I felt so safe in her hands. The activities were also amazing. I had a great time at every activity, even the ones that I wasn't particularly excited about. I was pleasantly surprised by all of them and it has made me rethink the types of activities I might do on future holidays. I will definitely travel again and genuinely couldn't recommend them more. So seamless and well organised from start to finish. Was never worried or concerned about areas we went to and the transport timing and pick up was impeccable! A definite variety on hotel standards but more on a higher standard that lower. A perfect balance of being busy which kept it exciting mixed with plenty of down time to yourself and time to bond with the group. I did end up spending maybe more than than I hoped as I thought more meals would be included but thankfully not an expensive country!

The whole trip was perfect, start to finish. The itinerary was packed with lots of different activities and experiences, which were all amazing, but it also gave us a good amount of down time to chill and explore on our own. The tour leader was wonderful at communicating the daily itinerary as well as giving the group a heads up on the following day itinerary and necessary items to bring and not to bring to make our experience seamless. I left well prepared each day of the trip. The tour leader was very attentive to everyone’s needs and answered any question we had at any time of the day or night. He was also very knowledgeable about the country, culture, and religions which made me the tour experience better. He was also amazing at keeping the tour on schedule and making sure we got to each destination with more than enough time so that we didn’t miss any of our activities or ferry connections. Overall the tour leader made this trip a great experience!

Had a great time on the 17 day New Zealand tour with Alex as group leader! Action packed, loads of different activities to try and great people! Alex was great as group leader, very knowledgable and got involved in all of the activities too. Would recommend!

The activities were so much fun! perfect for adrenaline junkies the views were BREATHTAKING. Our leader was perfect for the job--friendly, funny, welcoming, AND he joined in for all the activities and outing! Almost felt like he was one of the travelers in the group! Everyone in the group went from strangers to family practically overnight, thanks to Alex! It was an awesome group and went above and beyond my expectations for my first solo traveling adventure.

We had a great time on our New Zealand 17 days trip. I just wanted to take a moment to say how amazing our trip leader was! She had an infectious enthusiasm and really made the trip for us. She made travelling solo feel like you were travelling with a long term friend straight away.

A huge huge thank you to Penny! Even before our trip had begun she was helping us with anything and everything we needed to know. She was always encouraging us to make the most of our experiences and to do things we never thought we could! Without penny our trip wouldn’t have been the same! We had the best time ever!

We got lucky to meet our tour guide. He was very happy and confident when he came to greet us and then the tour was just amazing from the start. The whole group got on very well and Seyha was a big help. He broke the ice very well. He made the trip flow very well and gave us loads to do in our spare time.
