Our Wilderness and Whisky Walks tour allows particiapnts to enjoy two distinctively Tasmanian adventures; exploring the landscape on some of Tasmania’s best short walks and hiking trails before tastings and behind-the-scenes access at Tasmania’s finest distilleries and wineries.
We keep this tour simple, exploring the diverse regions of southern Tasmania, each offering wild natural landscapes and passionate producers behind the distilleries and wineries, the selection of which will change according to the season.
For our single day tour, choose one of the following destinations:
- Derwent Valley and Mount Field National Park – Around an hour from Hobart, the Lady Barron Falls Circuit takes in several of Tasmania’s most beautiful waterfalls. Sitting amongst the beautiful rainforests of the Mount Field National Park, we walk past the old growth and fresh, crisp waterfalls on this two-hour, 6km easy trail, where we may even spot some native Tasmanian wildlife. After lunch we will visit producers such as Derwent Distillery, Killara Distillery, or a local boutique winery.
- - Bruny Island – After the short morning ferry crossing, we head to Adventure Bay for a walk around the coastal clifftops of Fluted Cape, taking time to explain the geology and share stories from the past of this island off an island. Our lunch is taken in a local winery. On the way back to the ferry, we will pause for a platter of oysters and other delicious local treats.
- Huon Valley and the Hartz Peak – We set off down south past Huonville and through Geeveston to the Hartz Mountain National Park, part of the Tasmanian World Heritage Wilderness Area. Our four-hour, 8km walk offers great views down towards the south west and federation peak, on a clear day spotting Mount Anne and passing Lake Esperance. After lunch we visit local distilleries and vineyards such as Port Cygnet Distillery, Home Hill Vineyard and the Willie Smith Cider House and Apple Museum.
- Mount Wellington/kunanyi – We will explore mountain tracks and trails that are right in Hobart’s backyard, including some challenging steep sections, rock screes, fern glades and spectacular views from the top of our kunanyi. Along the way we will share great stories of hidden caves and Hobart’s past and present history. After lunch, it is back to Hobart to explore a selected distillery, boutique winery or cellar door.
Because of our small private nature, we can customize and follow the needs of our guests, catering for their interests and going in search for a relaxing reward after the mornings walk.
