Is Noosa good in February, and when is the best time to go?

Yes, butFebruary is the wettest month. Warm water, afternoon storms.

Yes, with eyes open: February is the hottest and wettest month of the year here. The Sunshine Coast averages around 30°C and 176mm of rain in February — but that is afternoon storms rather than days of drizzle, and the water is at its warmest. For a slow, nature-focused month it works: the national park headland walk, the everglades, and K'gari a couple of hours north. If the dates are movable, September and October are the pick — high twenties and under 90mm.

Checked on 6 October 2026.

Noosa is a small coastal town with a national park on its headland and a river system behind it, and it is one of the few places on the east coast people go to slow down rather than tick things off.

What February actually gives you

  • The warmest water of the year.If swimming every day is the point, February is the month for it.
  • Storms rather than rain. They build in the afternoon, break hard and clear. Mornings are usually fine.
  • Humiditywhich is the part people underestimate more than the rain.
  • Quieter than January. The school holidays are over and the town empties noticeably.
  • Everything greenincluding the everglades and the hinterland.

What to do with a slow month

  • Noosa National Parkthe coastal track around the headland past Tea Tree Bay to Hells Gates. Flat, about 5km, and you will see koalas if you look up.
  • The Noosa Evergladesone of only two everglade systems in the world, up the river by kayak or boat.
  • Main Beachis north-facing and sheltered, which is why it is one of the few genuinely calm swimming beaches on this coast.
  • The hinterlandEumundi markets, Montville and the Glass House Mountains, all within an hour.
  • K'garia couple of hours north and a day trip from Noosa itself.

K'gari from Noosa

This is the thing most people do not realise is within reach. A day trip to K'gari leaves from Noosa at $299, and the 2 and 3 day versions run from here too — including the tag-along convoy where you drive an automatic 4WD yourself behind a guide.

If the month is movable

September and October. Both sit in the high twenties with under 90mm of rain, the water is warm enough, and the crowds have not arrived. April is the other one — the end of the wet with the heat gone out of it. February is perfectly good; those three are better.
