Byron Bay itinerary — what to do with 3, 4 and 5 days

Three daysLong enough for the water, the lighthouse and a proper lie-in.

Three days is the right amount, five if you want to skydive. Byron is a small town where everything is within walking distance, so an itinerary here is really a list of what you do on the water. Three days: double kayaks at Clarkes Beach with a dolphin guarantee, from $369 with two nights and the activities booked together. Four days swaps the dorm for a private king room and adds whale watching in season. Five days finishes with a 15,000ft skydive landing on the beach, from $699.

Checked on 6 October 2026.

Byron is not a place you plan in much detail. The town is walkable, the beach is at the end of the street, and the only real decisions are how many nights and what you do on the water.

What each day looks like

  • Day one, arrive and walk to the Cape Byron lighthouse. It is the most easterly point of mainland Australia and the walk up takes about an hour from town.
  • Day two, get on the water.Double kayaks off Clarkes Beach, or a snorkel trip boarding at The Pass over Julian Rocks.
  • Day three, the beach and the marketsor whale watching between roughly June and November, when humpbacks pass close to the cape.
  • Day four or five, the skydiveif you are going to. It lands on the beach, which is the part that sells it.

Getting there

  • The nearest airport is Ballinaabout 30 minutes away. Gold Coast airport is around an hour.
  • Airport pickup is not includedon any of these packages — getting to Byron is up to you.
  • Everything is walkable once you arrive. The lodge is a short walk from the bus stops and the beach.
  • It is a standard stop on the east coast runso plenty of people arrive by bus from Sydney or Brisbane.

When to come

Whales pass roughly June to November, which is also the drier half of the year. Summer is hotter, busier and the town fills over Christmas and New Year — if you are coming then, book the nights well ahead.

Where this comes from. What each package includes, where you sleep, the activities and prices are that package's own details as held on its page here, and prices update on their own. Whale season is the published humpback migration window for the east coast.
